My family and I were looking for a hotel close to the Plateau for one night. We were driving around without a reservation and stumbled on the Manoir. The front desk man (possibly owner) was really friendly, fluent in English, and gave us a good deal of $79 (for this area, that's absurdly low). He let us see the room before deciding. It was on the same floor as the front desk (a walk up 2nd floor) and seemed fairly decent. Yes, it was old and pretty run down, but everything worked properly and the beds did the job. I cautiously checked for bed bug signs - and thankfully none of us saw any or got any bites. I bit my tongue when judging the interior decor - see my photos for a more visual picture. We didn't use the shower, though the paper bathmats were pretty laughable. But hey, I can buy my own bathmat with the money I saved on the room rate. There was a little street noise at night (it was a Thursday night) but it wasn't terrible.
Parking is about a block away underneath the Biblioteque in a safe garage for $12 a day. The hotel's location is pretty amazing - at a bustling intersection and along Rue St. Denis which is full of great and diverse eateries open throughout the day and night. We had dinner in the Plateau and it was an easy and lovely 15 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel is pretty close to the Berri and Sherbrooke stations.
Breakfast, aka Costco croissants and coffee, tea, and juice are provided in the morning. Again, for the price, it was a nice added touch. The front desk manager was really helpful and I could really tell he appreciated his customers. Hopefully he can afford a decent remodel in the future. But until then, I would recommend this hotel to the type that plan to be out exploring exciting Montreal, and not dwelling on the wood paneling in their room. The price leaves a lot of extra spending money towards a nice dessert or museum entry. For anyone looking for a nicer hotel, the Auberge le Jardin d'Antoine 2 doors to the north had nicely appointed rooms and seemed like a better place for a vacation and relaxing.
