“Great older hotel kept updated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014 via mobile

I have been staying at this hotel when in Montreal for almost 30 years.

They have kept the rooms up to date. However, they are a bit small.

The view from the rooms at one time was amazing and still is. You have to peak around a few new tall buildings.

Club Lounge is on the top floor and good views. Food selection for breakfast and early evening is limited.

No hot food in club lounge for breakfast.

Spent three nights here for a conference. Location is good. You can walk up to St. Catherine Street and find many restaurants, or go the opposite way and easily find the Metro station, or walk right outside on Drummond Street and there are BIXI bikes to rent with your credit card. We had a quiet 25th floor room behind the elevators and could hear the whoosh of them most of the time, but with no ding-ding sound audible, that was OK. Linens were great. The room's easy chair was nice and the bathroom was well equipped (except for a lukewarm hairdryer). Starbucks coffee packs for the in-room coffee maker and bottled water was nice (free for SPG members? - I don't know). On the 6th floor, pool and workout facilities are top notch. We didn't try the hot tub but it looked fine, and it and the pool had great window light. There's a sunning deck outside on the roof -- good view of the skyline and refreshing air. Downstairs in the lobby, the concierge desk was excellent and friendly. They routed us to several places by drawing on maps and telling us about the Metro system, which we used. We rented bikes and explored down by the waterfront one day. Had two drinks and nachos in the bar one evening, a fast $35! No problem getting a cab at the curb at 4 a.m. on departure day. Overall, a nice stay.

Room Tip: Room on a high floor didn't cause us any issue. Elevators are fast. Doors close quickly.

I recently stayed at this hotel and was appalled by the complete lack of sound-proofing between rooms which I can only attribute to shoddy construction. I have stayed in a number of hotels all over the world and never has it been so painfully easy to hear every little thing that was going on in the room next to us. And the people in that room were not even being loud. They were clearly talking in normal voices but we could hear everything they were saying and doing.
What I found equally frustrating was that after we complained, no one followed us back to the room to validate our concerns. I wish they had done that so that they too could hear first-hand how loud it was.

Also, for whatever reason the lobby smelled like sewage one of the nights. No explanation for that.

So not a bad hotel, if you don’t plan on sleeping. Will NOT be staying at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms with doors to adjoining rooms are incredibly noisy.

My partner and I stayed at this Sheraton last week. We were put in a room that had a door to an adjoining room, and we could hear EVERYTHING that was said, every step, every rustle from the that room. We couldn't sleep. They weren't being particularly loud or obnoxious, which is why we didn't want to get security involved, though we did call downstairs and were told to bring it to the manager in the morning. It was the strangest phenomenon. I'm surprised a hotel of the Sheraton's supposed calibre would allow this. I have to say, I have been staying at hotels, both better and worse, for more than two decades now and never have I encountered this problem. The management was disbelieving and unhelpful the next morning, providing us with very few options other than giving me rewards points on my Starwoods Preferred Guest card. She was also rather short. No reflection upon the other staff; they were cordial and helpful for our stay. I would only stay there again if there were no other options in the area.

Room Tip: If you get a room with an adjoining door, change it right away. Also, there is NO wireless in the ro...

I was at this hotel for a conference. Two things stood out to me. First, on the sixth floor there is a deck that was a great place to relax and get away without having to go somewhere outside of the hotel. It is just past the pool and exercise room. Second, the coffee place in the lobby opened at 6:30 am which I loved since I get up early. Overall, the room was quite nice, the staff friendly and helpful and the parking garage easy to navigate.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks out over the river.

We are a family of three visiting Montreal and stayed here for 2 nights. It's centrally located in downtown and a metro stop is 5-minute walk away. Old Montreal is a 20-minute walk away. There is below ground parking at $25 for 24hours with in and out privilege. This is an older hotel, but the rooms look like being recently refurbished, and is nicely decorated. The gym and the indoor pool are clean and well staffed. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. The only drawback is no free in-room WiFi, there is free WiFi in the lobby though. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a nice stay and would consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Rooms on high floors have good view of the city.

We were in this hotel 6 days for a conference. The room rates reasonable for conference rate but we did upgrade to little larger room as the conference base was very NYC size. The Wi-fi was the best I have experienced in a large hotel for conferences or in any hotel! The room cleaning staff were remarkable. And the location is very desirable place to be in the city - walking distance yes, to Old Montreal, many wonderful restaurants, shopping, etc.
Now the cons: BEWARE - wine prices by the glass in the lovely Lobby Bar are exorbitant by our standards even in US hotels! A New Zealand glass of Sauvignon Blanc cost more than we can purchase a bottle of the same brand. For two days we had terrible experience with only one female Lobby Bar wait staff and we also found others from the conference experienced the same. She was rude, nasty, back talked but the worst she tried to overcharge, yes overcharge! We just happen to know the prices. Talked with with management after the overcharge incident and all seemed to be handled. Thank you management.
BEWARE - Luggage Storage (and yes a conference hotel and all that implies). To store luggage the Cost $6 per bag no matter the size! The only hotel in the world that we have encountered Baggage Storage FEE. Curiously we inquired management about this and their reply was that Sheraton never sees a penny of this revenue. A union thing - no idea?!?!?!

First and foremost, please accept our sincere apologies for your experience. We sincerely regret that we failed you in this instance as your experience is contrary to the high level of service we strive to maintain and of which you have every right to expect at Le Centre Sheraton Montreal.

Thank you for your review and happy that overall you enjoyed your stay with us.

Further to your experience in our lobby bar, we certainly appreciate how upsetting this was and there is no reasonable explanation we can offer as to why we failed to live up to our own high standards. Your comments clearly indicate that we must further the education of certain associates as it relates to attention to detail and the practice of true customer service. It should not be necessary but, occasionally, we must remind our associates that we are in a highly competitive business, where good service is the only distinguishing feature between us and our competition.

Please know that your comments will be addressed with the Manager in question to ensure no recurrence for future guests and it is our sincere hope that you will be among them.
