Nice hotel, large room and very well located. You can drop off from the airport bus two blocks away from the hotel (and drop-in to go to the airport just one block away).
The hotel is at the corner of Crescent Stree, with lots of irish pubs, nice beers and food and just 5 minutes walk from subway station and Saint Catherine Street (lots of stores).

5 friends and I, age 20 were off to Montreal with a french program to stay the night, since it being the Grand Prix there were no affordable places for us to stay as a large group, therefore we chose Hotel Y. Once the manager found out we were extra people in the room he kicked out three 20 year old girls at 4am and told them to fend for themselves. The workers there had no sympathy for that we were young girls needing a place to sleep. The facility was clean, although the we also did not like the concept of the shared bathroom (resembled university residences) Location was great, right by St.Catherine's street shopping, which was fun for us, although with the respect given by the employees I would not go back. They are not flexible, accommodating people.

We stayed here a few nights and found the rooms were ok for the price and location. They are very basic and there is a communal computer, kitchen and living room area and phone. The bathrooms are old and toilets need fixing. On a few occasions we noticed feces etc in the toilets unflushed. Some of the toilets you have to hold the handled down for almost a minute to flush. The maids are weird. They keep watching the guests like they are spying on them plus they seem very lazy. They move very slowly. One of them was particularly mean looking and rude. They also had some strange people staying there who seemed like they were homeless. We didn`t think too hilghly of that either.
In all, it`s good if you are on a budget and want a room for just a few nights.

Room Tip: Good for the budget minded for a short stay.

This was a perfect choice for staying at downtown Montreal, just a short walk to the Bell Centre and right near lots of shopping. Expect basic accomodations and not the most comfortable matresses, but it was clean and had everything needed for a weekend trip to Montreal. The staff were all very friendly.

The receptionist was friendly and very helpful (provided a wake up call, helped me locate a nearby movie theater and cultural attractions). The room was clean and reasonable for the price that I paid. Do not come expecting this to be a 3 or 4 star chain hotel. The Y uses 1 floor of the building and it is the hotel area. However, unlike some chain hotels, I did not have to report any hair in the bed or dirty bathrooms, etc. If you just need a safe and clean place to stay a night or two, this is a good deal. It is walking distance to Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Saint Catherine Avenue. I had no problems walking 1 block to the metro, Lucien D'Allier. This is a centrally located area that is downtown. While I missed the wonderful amenities of a chain hotel such as a gym, spa, restaurant/bar, all I really needed on this trip was a safe place to stay and this served such purpose.

I had found this hotel from a railway guidebook for my son to stay in while attending a conference in Montreal. We had been impressed and decided to stay there ourselves on our overnight stop arriving from Albany,NY and heading on to Halifax as the hotel is very reasonably priced and close to the station. When I tried to book 8 months in advance the rooms with ensuite were booked out! We arrived expecting to share a bathroom but they had had a cancellation and kept a private room for us. The room is not large but fine for what we needed, clean and comfortable and excellent value right in town. We were very happy to be able to use the communal kitchen to prepare both our evening meal and breakfast next day. The only thing we had trouble with was using the communal computer because we are older and couldn't work out which keys to use as it was set for French and we couldn't find anyone to help us. This is an excellent value budget hotel

I was very pleasantly surprised to find out about the Montréal Women's Y Hotel. A couple of things to note:

1. It is open to both Men and Women

2. There are two or three components to this facility
-- the Hotel (rooms with private bathrooms),
-- the Auberge (or Hostel) -- small rooms with shared bathrooms, and a common kitchen/dining room area, and
-- the Residence.
These are all on different floors of the same building. TripAdvisor has separate listings for the Auberge and for the Hotel, though both are at the same address. Naturally, the Auberge is cheaper than the Hotel.

The facility is clean and modern, and somewhat like an upscale university residence for grad students. I was very happy with it, and I extended my stay here.

The location is excellent: it is a block or so from the 747 Airport Express Bus stop, and two blocks from the Lucien l'Allier Metro station. Montréal has a great rapid transit system so you can get anywhere pretty quickly from here. It is also just a couple of blocks from the Bell Centre, where the Canadiens hockey games are played.

It has a very nice coffee shop / restaurant attached, so it's certainly convenient for breakfast, especially on a cold snowy morning when you may not want to go out to eat.

The front desk staff were welcoming and friendly.
