Westmount is the predominantly English area of the island of Montreal, though French people have been steadily moving in for the last 20 years or so. It is mostly reisidential, and has some of the most beautiful. Victorian mansions you will see anywhere in Canada. The parks are also spectacularly beautiful and peaceful.

Westmount is actually a gorgeous part of Montreal. It has many boutiques and you will love walking down Green avenue. Westmount is mostly residential with the most beautiful home you will ever see. Nice area to drive in or to sit in a park and enjoy the peaceful place.

I visited Westmount Park and Murray Hill Park, also called St Georges Park. Wonderful for children and adults alike. At the top of Murray Park you can get a wonderful view of the river and south shore area. If you choose to walk further up the hill; from Westmount Avenue, north; past the Boulevard, you eventually get to the Westmount summit lookout. Just east of the lookout, if you walk along Summit Circle, you will notice a house that looks identical, a left half and a right half. At one point it was too big for anyone, so they cut it in two, put a driveway up the middle. It lost a few rooms in the process but each piece is still a mansion. You will spend an hour if you walk from Sherbrooke Street up to the Summit. if you want more adventure, walk down Belevedere, to Cote des Neiges and walk up to the other summit at Mount Royal. If you do all this walking, you will really appreciate the monsterous houses as walking always gives you the time to appreciate what you are seeing. Drive it first if you have any doubts so you know what you will encounter if you walk it. Worth spending some time here.

I like Westmount. The park is unique, there are concerts on Sunday during summer, lots of trees, little lake, little waterfall, ducks, bike path, children area, small soccer field... small park with lots of fun stuff.
Victoria Village is always attractive, with plenty of stores. You can enjoy a nice walk/window shopping on Sherbrooke. Of course, the snobs will take the sidewalk and will not interrupt their chat to allow people to pass through... you'll have to go around them, they don't bother.
I find all eating places expensive for what they give. A couple have a fare product/price ratio.
Sidewalk sale on summer is fun and entertaining. Can find good deals on good brands.
A nice area to live. Everything is close and is family oriented.

Not being a Westmount resident, I can be unbiased here. The quartier is just lovely. If you are from out of town - drive up Victoria - from Sherbrooke - turn right on Sunnyside and head higher and higher. The road veers to the right - but stay on Sunnyside. Now take Belvedere on your left to the top of Westmount mountain. Circle the bird sanctuary and stop and admire the wonderful vies of the city unfolding to the mighty St. Lawrence river and her bridges. Take a stroll through the Bird Sanctuary - very natural and lovely. You can descend to Sherbrook Street by weaving around the beautiful residential area - especially Westmount Avenue. Westmount is upscale - true- but no longer the bastion of the Anglophone Community. At least 40% of Westmount is Francophone. The gardens, trees and homes are splendid. You won't be sorry. If the air is clear and it is not raining - this is a must-do outing for visiting Montreal in a car.
