“Great breakfast, tastefully smart decor, Montreal feel: good vibes!”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

We've been visiting Montreal regularly for 6+ years and have just discovered this Auberge.
Things to like:
- attractive, bright, breakfast area with GREAT variety and quality of foods and beverages (e.g. a different fruit salad each day, but always ripe tasty fruit: not hard tasteless melon and watery strawberries that are so common;
- tasteful, imaginative decor in the room with a new, firm mattress
- location overlooking the Parc LaFontaine: great for the early morning jog (me) or walk (ma femme)
- terrific kitchen with range of beverages and snacks (some quite sumptious!)

Things to know:
- there are 40+ stairs to the rooms at the top: not for the infirm
- there is plenty of legal parking to be had, but not a parking lot per se: this is an urban setting (part of the charm), so leave the Lambourghini at home and drive the Toyota instead
- the metro is a 15 minute walk: so seasonal weather matters.

We'll be going back.

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite during (Ontario) March break, and took advantage of the "tourisme Montreal" deal. The location was very easy to find for out of towners, parking was easy, and there was lots to walk to in the neighbourhood. The only drawback is it is a bit of a trek to the metro (subway).
The staff was very welcoming and provided very quick and efficient service.
The room was great! We loved the jacuzzi tub and having a separate room to close with the kids sleeping was a treat for us parents. We never heard others in the hotel and hope no one was having to listen to our little guys, either!
Breakfast (included) was very good with the egg bake and freshly baked muffins. It was also quite nice having access to the kitchen in the evenings, as well as the fresh fruit available in the lobby.
We look forward to returning to this hotel in the summer when we can enjoy the park.

The Auberge has a great location across from a large park and is a short walk from numerous restaurants, shopping places and bars. The staff were flawlessly helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good, with a wide selection. It may be the first hotel breakfast I've had where soy milk was supplied without anyone asking for it (I have a dairy allergy.) Depending on the room you choose, it can be ideal for families or for a couple. Our room was smallish but perfectly comfortable for my husband and me. I really appreciated the bathrobes. The Plateau, for those who don't know Montreal, is a great neighbourhood to walk around in, kind of trendy residential. And a final plus, there was free parking on the street nearby.

We returned over winter break for a few nights and were not disappointed. This time we opted for the Superior Room, much roomier than the small room we had last year. Nice couch and desk, very comfy bed and pillows. Hubby had a sore foot, staff brought us a ziplock to put ice in to sooth him. Help was given to the luggage, great recommendations, they made reservations for dinner when we struggled with the phone. We do bounce around to various apartments and places in Montreal but we will always consider this lovely spot! Phillips Family, Vermont.

Room Tip: Pick the Superior for room for luggage and incidentals. Third floor has steep steps so if that is a...

Overall this boutique hotel was a very pleasant experience. The staff are exceptionally helpful and courteous and helped us find all kinds of nearby attractions and restaurants. The location is superb, directly across from the beautiful Parc de la Fontaine and about a 5-10 minute walk from the Plateau shops and restaurants. The breakfast buffet was decent though having constant access to cookies and tea/coffee was great. The only drawback was the darkness of the room (which was itself quite large), only one relatively small window. The door also opens into a mirrored closet which is a bit odd. But overall had a very good stay there.

Room Tip: Try to get one with more light/bigger windows if possible

Cute hotel, rooms were European sized. Breakfast was fantastic and plentiful. The hotel kept our bicycle cases for the entire week we were cycling and not charged for the service. The little bar was a nice feature. Now to the most amazing part of our stay. Our flight was scheduled to leave in the midst of the Montreal marathon which completely obstructed traffic to the hotel location both public and taxi. After spending 45 minutes exploring every other available option the desk attendant clocked out early-forgoing pay-and drove us with our massive bicycle cases in her personal car to the airport. It is so rare to see such a gesture of kindness in modern societies. Thanks and we are planning another trip this fall. We will check the marathon schedule this time.

Auberge de la Fontaine is a pretty little hotel in the trendy Plateau Mont-Royal area, just opposite from a beautiful park, Parc Lafontaine. Many great restaurants, cafes, bars and shops are only a 5-10 minute walk from there.

The service was particularly good, with every employee being very courteous and cheerful.

My room on the 2nd floor was comfortable, clean and quiet, with perhaps slightly outdated furniture and a tiny, but functional bathroom.

Breakfast is nice, with a good choice of food and beverages.

As I regularly travel to Montreal, I'll definitely be staying there again.
