“Lovely hotel!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2014

Such a nice place -- quaint, clean and attractive, with friendly staff and a good location. Just two blocks from Boulevard Mont Royal where you can find all sorts of cute restaurants and shops and about a 10 minute walk from the Mont Royal Metro station from where you can get just about anywhere in about 20 minutes. The included breakfast is well worth it -- there's something for every taste and is continually re-stocked through the breakfast period. The front desk staff gave us excellent advice and even lent us umbrellas! My only tiny criticism is that our room constantly smelled of cigarette smoke in the evenings, but since this is not a non-smoking hotel, I guess that's inevitable. Will definitely come back here if I find myself in Montreal again!

Room Tip: Note that there are no elevators in the building, so ask for a room on the first floor.

Great neighborhood location across from the park. Many stores in the area to walk too. Restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops all nearby. Full breakfast, many items to choose from. We parked our car and didn't move it for two days. Our room was on the front overlooking the park. It was warm and comfortable despite the frigid temperature outside.

We are regular visitors to the Auberge and had a park-facing room in the 'second house' side this time. Despite the frigid (-10 C) temps outside, our balcony room was warm and comfortable. Breakfasts continue to their normal high standard of both quality and variety. We walked both downtown and uptown from the Auberge and occasionally grabbed a cab when our faces froze!
We found two new restaurants in the Plateau within easy reach of the Auberge...I've lost count of how many great places there are within a ten-block radius! See you again in the spring!

Room Tip: choose a park-facing room for a few more $$$ and have a view and a balcony/terrace.

The hotel is in a perfect location for visiting the Plateau region of Montreal with its trendy restaurants and unique shops. Park the car and enjoy the walks. The hotel has that worn look but the staff make up for it with their warm and friendly approach. They were incredibly helpful and responsive. Another treat was the fulsome breakfast, complete with pate, cheese plus all the usual cereals, yogurt and fruit.

Room Tip: Ask ahead about parking, especially in the winter as the streets are not well maintained.

In Montreal for just 3 nights we reserved a room at the Auberge de la Fontaine. The stay was a delight, A comfortable room, tastefully decorated and an attentive and helpful staff. The buffet breakfasts had an amazing range of choices, fruit, eggs, muesli, yogurt, cheeses, ham, pates, nuts, juices and excellent coffee, and of course croissants, good breads and bagels. There was always an array of fruit set out for other times and cookies in the kitchen along with ready coffee and teas to help yoursef to. The inn is opposite the attractive Parc de la Fontaine where in spite of the serious cold small children playied, and people walked their dogs. We walked a lot but noted that there were buses available in all directions. On Rachel Street we found good restaurants to eat dinner with a few places open for 24 hours. A favorite speciality is Poutine which I preferred not to try, a huge mound of french fries covered with gravy and cheese. One small criticism is that good shampoo and conditioner were in the shower but a small bar of soap would have been helpful. Parking in the city is a problem and the inn has only 2 parking spaces. It was much more practical not to take a car and we did not.

Room Tip: I would think that any room there would be fine.

We stayed for 2 nights in this charming little B&B which is quite conveniently located on the NW edge of La Fontaine Park. The centre of the city is not far away and buses are easily accessible. The Mont-Royal metro station however is almost a 1km walk away. Our room was small but spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and with a perfectly adequate en-suite bathroom. There is free WiFi. Staff are pleasant and helpful and the buffet breakfast caters to all tastes and appetites.

Overall, we had no complaints at all and thought this place was great value for money. Note though, the building has no lift/elevator and some rooms are 2 flights up.
