“very good but its sister in Toronto better!”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

Probably 4 and a half stars..as Toronto sister is a little better.
Same style and furnishings. Had 2 rooms- first one (ending in 01) was too small for the room equipment, so I upgraded for $25 a day- very definitely worth it. Best is just to avoid rooms ending in 01 in the first place.
Similar to the Toronto Maple Leaf Hotel (see my review of that) with a couple of things I forgot to mention. Free breakfast in both. (nothing special but decent)
Everything a little smarter in Toronto- (newer hotel??)
One outstanding feature here was quality of room service menu. It really felt like I was eating in a good restaurant, and it came far more quickly than promised...
Sound proofing not quite as good, and my second room looked out onto roof full of (aircon?) machinery which I could hear a little in the room.
TV much better in Toronto too, but this may also have been analog vs digital broadcasting (don't know whether this is Quebec vs Ontario or the hotel!)
As Toronto, Nespresso nice touch, but it's not free, and please look at offering tea for people like my wife! (coffee is free in lobby..)
Internet decent speed, but again Toronto wins!
Ping 13 ms Download 3.53 mb.
Overall I would stay again!

Room Tip: Not ending in 01!!

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The location was excellent and we particularly enjoyed the complimentary cafe latte in reception before venturing out.

The room was very quiet and comfortable with a unique layout and a glass shower. Short walk to Rue Bishop and Rue Crescent for Saturday night life. Overall an excellent stay.

We will return, hopefully they have Grand Prix packages in June.

We booked this hotel for a Friday and Saturday at the end of an amazing three-week vacation to the Maritimes and, as the title indicates, it was a mixed experience.

The location was perfect for us. We skipped the expensive valet parking and opted to park in the much cheaper Eaton Centre where we got a weekend discount. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and we loved the decor in both the lobby and our room. The bathroom was spacious and beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. We also loved the size of the room and the high ceilings. Bonus was that Rafael Nadal was seated beside us at breakfast on Sunday!

But, there were some slip-ups. The glassware in the room had clearly not been cleaned or replaced in ages. We were about to pour ourselves some wine when we noticed lipstick on one of the glasses and dust covering all of them. There was no free in-room coffee, although there was a machine in the lobby. The shower was disappointing. It took ages for the water to heat up, the pressure didn't seem very strong, and it didn't drain very well so we were constantly worried that it would overflow onto the bathroom floor. The breakfast was fine but I wouldn't say it was worthy of a hotel in this price range. And to top it off the iPod docking station was busted. We did a temporary fix by propping the iPod with a facecloth.

Staff we dealt with were all wonderful and very apologetic about the glasses but I'm not sure I would book again.

Dear SkyboxTO,
Thank you for you review.
A follow up has been made with our housekeeping team. I am sorry to read your comments about the cleanliness of our room as it is such an important aspect of our product.
We will certainly take a more carefull look to our showers, as well as to our iPod docking stations, following your comments. We have the chance to have beautiful glass through showers, so we definitely have to make sure they are efficient as well.
I am pleased to read that our team has taken good care of you.
I sincerely hope we will have the chance of welcoming you again in a near future.
Warm regards.

We were in Montreal for a wedding and had just stayed 3 nights in another hotel down the road which was fantastic, so our expectations were high considering this hotel was more expensive and had better reviews. We have booked to move hotels as the wedding reception was literally next door.

The good
1. the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. I have to give a shout out to André Cloutier, the concierge, he arranged the most fantastic babysitter for our 14 month old and was very reassuring that we felt extremely safe leaving our son with her.
2. The room was spacious and modern with large floor to ceiling windows.
3. It is centrally located and near lots of shops and restaurants.
4. They had apples randomly positioned as decoration that you could eat (randomly quirky)

The bad
1. Very expensive for the quality of the hotel
2. The breakfast was revolting- not really much more i can say than that and the service was appalling in the restaurant
3. The rooms seemed unfinished - just painted concrete on the ceiling
4. There were only 2 elevators which were very small (could hardly fit 2 adults and 3 bags in) and seemed to take a very long time to go any where

I was going to give the hotel a 2 star rating, but André and his helpfulness bumped it up.

Dear Penny B,
Thanks you for your review.
I will certainly share your kind words with André.

I am sorry to read that you do not think our product worth the price you pay, or that you did not like our contemporary decor with the concrete ceiling we have in our rooms.
I certainly shared your comments on the breakfast with the restaurant Manager. It is a part of the Germain experience so we try every mornings to give a memorable moment.

We hope to have the chance of welcoming you again.
Warm regards,
Jacques-Alexandre

This was a very pleasant surprise. Well located. The rooms are of a good size with many nice touches that were greatly appreciated. The bathroom with separate room for the toilet, the illuminated closets. Overall, an excellent choice if you need to be in downtown Montreal. I would definitely stay there again.

The rooms are small and carefully designed. Built in closets but no dresser with drawers, just a few widely spaced shelves in the closets. There is a built in desk, lots of lights, modern décor - all black and white except for pink and blue throw pillows. Separate commode area, shower has a half wall of glass - no curtain. Nice lotions, etc. Shampoo and conditioner are in built in pump bottles in the shower along with liquid soap. Nice breakfast - oatmeal, cold cereals, omelet, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, breads, bagels, fruit, etc. There is a mini bar. No free coffee in the room - it is part of the mini bar and costs $2.50 per pot. There is a decaf coffee machine in the lobby that is available 24 hours. I like a dark room and this is not - the wooden blinds do not shut out the light and there is no "blackout" curtain. Free efficient Wi-Fi and you do not have to log in which is great. VERY comfortable bed and pillows. Exceptionally quiet a/c, which worked well. Also has a safe. TV is not high def. Close to the Metro with lots of shops and restaurants in the area.

This wss my first visit to Montreal, and chose the Germain because of its location and excellent reviews. It did not disappoint. The staff was very helpful and always available. Andre the concierge was especially helpful, taking the time to go over the many sites and recommending restaurants to us despite the other guests waiting to consult with him. We were on the 8th floor with a king size bed. The view was nothing you would want to look at, but the room itself was very well laid out, with plenty of room where you need it, i.e. walk-in closet, good size bathroom with an awesome walk in shower. Bed was comfy. Loved the contemporary decor. Free breakfast was great. A lot to choose from, and the omelette dish was delicious. The only problem we had was when we first arrived and were in our room for about 20 minutes, when another guest opened the door. Evidently, they were given the same room. Could have been an embarrassing situation. Then during our last day there, our key card wouldn't work at all. Otherwise we loved the hotel, and would go back again.

Dear Ann S,
Thak you for your kind words. I will certainly share them with the team as well as with André, our concierge. Thank you as well for sharing your experience. I will see with my colleagues what happened with our system to make sure it will not happen again. Regarding the key card, they tend to demagnetised when they are in contact with cell phone or mobile device. I will definitely look to see if there is something we can do.
We really hope to welcome you again soon.
Warm regards.
