“Perfect for an impromptu visit without a heavy price tag”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

Me and my partner stayed in this hotel for only one night while visiting the Montreal En Lumière festival back in February. The location was truly excellent - right in the centre and very close to a huge array of restaurants, bars, and the festival itself. When we arrived we took the short walk up the entrance stairs (which might causes problems for the elderly or travellers with heavy bags). We were then greeted by the friendly staff who possessed both fluent English and French and probably a range of other languages. Once again there were more stairs up to our room on the 3rd floor. For us fit and healthy travellers it wasn't a problem, although while slightly intoxicated, the stairs proved considerably more challenging...

The room itself was cosy and comfy with a lovely bathroom and a little view of nothing in particular. Many of the pipes were exposed on the ceiling but these were painted the same as the walls and somehow worked with the feel of the room - comfy, cosy, with a dash of industry.

For me the bed was very comfortable although my partner disagreed so beware that the beds may not suit everybody!

Overall the stay was pleasant and enjoyable. I would recommend not to bother paying for the queen sized rooms unless you really want them. It was not worth the extra expense in my opinion.

Lastly, to those complaining about the many sex shops, including one downstairs, do not be put off! The area was safe and the noise is minimal, even during the busy festival.

Bon courage!

Room Tip: Our room on the 3rd floor was very quiet

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel on Tripadvisor. We are pleased that you had a great stay in our establishment. Since we are in a centennial building, there are many stairs to contend with but we are happy that you appreciated the decor keeping with the building's historical character. Our area is indeed safe and though there are shops of a sexual nature in the area, it is indeed a dynamic area with all of its theatres, museums and festivals. We look forward to your next visit.

We knew what we were getting with this hotel after the reading the reviews. We hoped the amazing price ($56+ tax for one night for the shared bathroom room) would outweigh the risks. And it sure did!

The staff - Carole at the front desk was AMAZING! She gave us excellent advice for what to see, what to eat (Juliette & Chocolat OMG), and detailed instructions on how to get there.

The room - clean and tidy and the shared bathroom was not as bad as people have made it out to be. There is a sink in each room which is convenient for washing your hands without having to go to the shared bathroom. But we had no problems with cleanliness, noise, or convenience at all.

The location - yes, the hotel is right on top of a sex store but we didn't feel any effect of this. The hotel itself is super centrally located and anywhere we went around Montreal was approx. 15 minutes away.

Negatives - I wish the hotel served some sort of refreshments, like at least coffee.

Overall, for such a low price, you get what you pay for and much more!

I stayed at this hotel with my fiancee for a weekend trip to Montreal. The hotel was comfortable and clean, and even though it was located in a fairly seedy area of Montreal the noise did not disturb us and the hotel was fairly quiet.

We chose not to have private wash rooms and instead used shared washrooms. This was not a problem and we saved quite a bit of money.

Great value hotel!

We wanted close to shopping by foot, clean and affordable and we got everything we wanted on our list. Its not a fancy chain hotel but it is a great place with very attentive staff that was very helpful and cared about our stay.

I would totally recommend this place and stay there again when I come back to Montreal

The good choice for all people who just want a nice place to stay and don't care about all useless services offered by more expensive hotels!
Good situation, clean rooms, good price, nice and helpful hotel staff, the only small reproach I would do is about noise that could disturb light sleepers, especially for street side rooms.
I look forward to go back!

The decor was nice and the staff were very friendly. Clean rooms and shared bathrooms, but it can be a noisy night if you're sleeping on the St. Catherine's street side. It is a rowdy, loud corner in a slightly rougher area. Great location and close to the metro station.

Thank you for your review. I am pleased that you appreciated the decor, the cleanliness of the room and our friendly staff but wished that we could have surpassed your expectations. Our hotel is located in the midst of the entertainment district and this dynamic district hosts all of the major festivals and is home to over 35 concert venues and museums. On a future trip, please call our reception desk directly in order that we can assign room preference (facing the street or terrace, etc,) We are proud of the high ratings from our guests and work hard to maintain high standards. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future.

Located in the Red light district which is funny, but very convenient location. Very close to the metro and within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to do and see. Good price, very nice staff, clean rooms. Would stay here again :)

Room Tip: We did the shared bathroom and there was no problem at all with that. Worth it for saving some money...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for recommending our hotel. We are pleased that you appreciated the value, the staff and the cleanliness of our rooms. Though there are still remnants of the old red light district (moved a few years ago), our vibrant neighborhood now houses all of Montreal's major festivals and over 35 entertainment venues and museums. We are pleased that you will be returning. A bientôt.
