My husband and I (Elite members/Marriott loyalists) stayed here for a long weekend getaway. The hotel had good service (concierge and front desk), nice ambiance (though a bit dated) and the location was good - 2 blocks from St. Catherine Bv and a short walk to Old Montreal. A few concerns:WORSE Marriott bed ever!!! They put us in a 2 bedroom suite, but we only had 1 of the bedrooms and none of the suite, with a shared entrance with strangers. The bed was a double, smallest bed ever experienced at Marriott. Plus it was saggy, made a ton of noise and seemed old. We woke up achy every morning. Our complaint to the front desk was dismissed as "it's a standard "Marriott" bed. Well, I wouldn't advertise that. Only other complaint was the very slow valet service. You will probably enjoy your stay here as long as they don't try to sell you into room 3510 as a suite. It's only part of the suite - the true suite is 3512. Also, if you're elite members then be warned that the cold buffet is available with the voucher on the weekends at the restaurant - it's a $9 surcharge if you go for any hot breakfast items.

Room Tip: If you have a bad back then this might not be the hotel for you. We checked in with healthy backs a...

Thank you NikiF - appreciate you taking the time to comment on your stay. I apologize we couldn’t meet your initial room needs upon arrival, given our very high occupancy during your stay. Indeed, our suite floors are due for renovations and plans are underway. We apologize for the slow valet service which is mainly due to the constructions going on surrounding the hotel.

Hope you will give us another chance on your next trip to Montreal!

I grew up in montreal and now live in the states. The Chateau Champlain holds a special place in my heart. As a child, almost every Sunday we had brunch on the 36th floor.

I was disappointed to find out that there is no brunch at all anymore. The breakfast buffet was adequate but American bagels? Really?

The hotel is showing its age. It could use some real refreshing. Our room was musty (32nd floor) and the A/C vent is right under the drapes and didn't work well.
The pool was disturbing. The amount of hair in the water (on multiple visits) was quite disgusting.

And the parking? My standard SUV apparently doesnt fit in the garage. And then I was told that if I took it out and there no spots in front I would have to find my own parking and still pay!

I am a platinum marriott member but will look for more updated accomisations in montreal.

Hello gplotkin,

Thank you for your post following your stay. Very sorry you didn’t enjoy your room and the water in our pool. We will convey your message regarding the Bagels to our Food & Beverage manager and follow-up on your comments regarding your room and the condition of the water in the pool.
For the parking your are totally right. We have limited front parking space and our garage was built in 1966 with the constructions specification of the time which limits us to a maximum clearance of 6’ clearance/1.83 meters.

Hope to see you soon!

The hotel offers what you would expect by a Marriott property: clean, well kept, secure, friendly staff, knowledgeable service desk. The location is within a 5-10 minute walk of Old Montreal. As with most properties in Montreal it is expensive.

I just came back from 3 day stay at this hotel. I picked the hotel because it is Marriott and closer to the attractions. Here is my take:

Pros- excellent location, walking distance to Museum of fine arts, crescent st. Nice views from the hotel. Our deal included free breakfast, amazing breakfast!

cons- Smaller rooms, tighter bathrooms, some basics like shower caps are missing. For the price it can be better. Wall paper coming off, not like a typical Marriott.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms have excellent views

Hi Ravi K - thank you for taking the time to post your review of our hotel. Indeed location is one of our strong points - happy to read you enjoyed our breakfast option as well. Apology for the wall paper deficiency in your room - that should have been addressed prior to us assigning the room to any guest. Your feedback is appreciated.

Chateau Champlain is one of the grand old hotels from the bygone era with rich colours and decor.

Guest rooms are of good size and very comfortable with crisp linens, area to work and with luck, a great view. Internet wifi worked very well with no interruptions.

The hotel location is great; not in the heart of the hustle bustle but within 5 minutes walk to St. Catherine, the subway and the stadium. Old Montreal is about a good 15 minutes walk.

Hotel is a really good blend of old and new, and the staff from front desk to managers walking around were all very friendly and helpful.

We decided to drive to Montreal & Quebec city for a short vacation and I decided that I would give Marriott a try again - still questioning my decision. The hotel is a nice hotel, don't get me wrong, but my experience was just a little better than average. We booked the concierge floor but what that entitled you too was use of the lounge not the 35th floor itself - we were on I think 29. The night we arrived - just as we checked in after a 15 hour drive - the fire alarm goes off! not the hotel's fault but sets the tone. City is working on streets around hotel (not sure how long it continues). First issue - because of the construction the valets do not park the cars. The CUSTOMER has to drive down a few streets, turn, turn and come back. When you want the car the CUSTOMER has to go to the garage and pick it up. Not sure what the valet part of this is. Why can't the valet do their job - you're paying considerably more for parking. The room itself (I think 2920 had a view of a building under restoration - at concierge floor rates. However the room was comfortable. The concierge was helpful and the continental breakfast in the lounge was good. The night we arrived, after the all clear on the "fire" we went to the concierge lounge - the dessert was cookies and some fruit - guess I expected a little better. There was supposed to be an honors bar but the 2 staff there at 9 pm didn't seem to know what this was (on our third night I went there and the concierge was administering the honors bar). If not for the valet I may have given it a very good. Just expected more of Marriott.

Thank you Kevin S - appreciate you taking the time to comment on your stay. Indeed, the city construction over the last few weeks around our hotel has created challenges for us and for our valet company - but that should have not affect the service you received - my apologies. In response to an "honour bar" option, we have not had that option at our hotel. Our concierge team would not have experienced it as you expected. It will be reviewed to see if it is practical for our operation. Merci.
