“Good but not quite as good as the first time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2014

I loves the guys at the door that take care of your bags and park your car. It's a nice touch.
The desk staff are helpful and friendly.
The lobby has a cool vibe with a beautiful fireplace and the elevators are dark and moody with interesting lights being held by miniature deer heads.
The room this time seemed a bit smaller than our first visit (maybe it was the lay out). On the plus side, most of the now has dark hardwood floors and the mattress was really comfortable. On the down side, I was kind of annoyed by the bathroom by things that never really jumped out at me on the previous visit. The tub was obviously some sort of slide over quick fix and it squeaked something awful when you moved around. The tub is huge and the shower curtain didn't fit. Water splashed out either end which made for an irritating shower. The bathroom sink is shallow and water sprays out and if the taps are turned to anything more than a trickle. The bathroom is impressive looking but not overly functional.
We were also annoyed by a maintenance man who began to let himself into our room because we had our window open and it was making a humming noise in the hall. He wouldn't go away until we promised to shut it when we went out.
Overall it was a decent stay but just, JUST annoying enough to try some place else next time

Dear recklessfriend,

Thank you for your review and your good comments about St Paul Hotel. We would be willing to investigate the issues reported (bathroom, maintenance). We already have new shower curtains on order, but would like to get details from you concerning the rest, in order to avoid this type of situation reoccur.

Thank you in advance

We were reminded of this hotel via a Travelzoo voucher. The hotel has been well maintained since it opened and its location in Old Montreal is ideally situated near boutiques, the old port, fabulous restaurants (Olive & Gourmando) and galleries.

The suite was spacious, quiet and well appointed. We had planned to go out and done but chose to take in and enjoy our views. The staff were lovely and accommodating.

We should be returning soon.

Room Tip: small but efficient work out room.

In the heart of old Montreal. We had a deluxe suite that was very nice and roomy. However, we did miss having a microwave in the room since we never seem to finish our dinners when we go out to eat. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, making several recommendations for restaurants and things to do. The hallways of the hotel are not very well lit, as another reviewer stated. It didn't bother us too much, but I would imagine someone with low vision might find it uncomfortable. They offer a very minimal continental breakfast on the 2nd floor of the hotel. For some awesome charcuterie check out the Hambar restaurant on the ground floor.

We went in February and the location is great to walk down old Montreal. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly. But the elevator is all painted in black with a very small lite in it. I felt like a
was going to hell . The hallway was also in black with red neon lights. The suite is nothing more than ok. For breakfast they would take for ever to clean our plates of the table, and there was just 2 more couple there.

Dear Christine D,

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback about your recent stay with us. We are disappointed to read you did not enjoy our hotel's decor as it is part of St Paul Hotel's core design, usually appreciated by our guests. As for the remarks concerning the breakfast, thank you for having brought it to our attention, we will take a deeper look into it with our team leaders.

If you would reconsider a future stay at St Paul Hotel, please contact us and we would make sure you have an amazing experience this time.

I've been to Montreal, and stayed in this wonderful hotel 5 times in the last 12 months. My business takes me to Montreal that many times per year. And as long as I'm travelling to Montreal I'll stay at this hotel.
The location is spectacular. Right in the heart of old Montreal, it's right beside some beautiful walking spots, including the shores of the St. Lawrence River, and a network of charming streets and alleys that make you feel like you're taking a stroll through Paris.
The Hotel itself is beautiful, both architecturally and aesthetically. The exterior is that of a century old building, while the inside is tasteful modern, and very comfortable. The staff is first rate. Always friendly, whether speaking French or English. The last 2 trips I received excellent restaurant recommendations for the doormen.
I haven't yet eaten at the hotel's restaurant, only because I love to walk around the neighbourhood and look for its hidden gems of French cuisine. I'm never disappointed. I do make a habit of enjoying the hotel's breakfast, which, although slightly pricy, is a great way to start the day, in yet another room beautifully furnished and decorated.
The only negative I can think of, is that I often like to do a little swimming when I'm travelling, and the hotel has no pool. However, that will not stop me from coming here very time I'm in Montreal

We recently held a corporate meeting at the St. Paul Hotel. Several executives, directors and managers took part in a three day strategic planning session. Several of the participants stayed at the hotel and the meetings were held in the conference room over the course of the three days. We had breakfast and lunch catered through the hotel. Prior to the meeting, the staff of the hotel had worked closely with us to ensure that had all the details to make our meetings a success. We had several participants arriving at different times from different geographies. It was important that everything went off without a glitch. Thanks to the attentive staff, our meetings were a huge success. Typically our company holds these meetings three times a year. We will definitely hold these sessions and perhaps others at the Hotel St. Paul.

The front desk personnel were very friendly and professional. The doormen were curtious and dealt with our car and luggage as soon as we arrived. The location is great and the view from our room fabulus. We were with another couple and requested to be on the same floor and the hotel did accomidate us. We had a corner junior suite. The living rome space was small with a mix match of furniture. Pink velour sofa reminicient of a 70's disco, very uncomfortable and well worn. The coffee table was a dinted scratched narrow bench, just the right height to ding your shins..ouch! The room desperatly needs an update! The bedroom area was cosy with a VERY comfortable bed, nice bedding. However in the corners of the room were two plywood painted large cubes with a piece of canvas as pull tabs with shelves inside. Very ugly!! The bathroom was as you would expect, with a comfortable soaker tub. Shower was just OK. Overall the suite was a disappointment. No ice dispenser at our disposal, had to wait an hour and a half for the staff to bring a bucket to our room. Forget the "continental breakfast"! Even the doorman mentioned to my husband to forget it and eat elsewhere. We should have listened to him. We arrived about 20 minutes before the buffet closed and were told to eat up as they remove the food at 10:30! I would compare it to a big chain roadside "on the go" breakfast buffet, except this one had blaring rap music coming from the kitchen..cool !
