SpringHill Suites by Marriott Old Montreal
Ranked #43 of 165 Hotels in Montreal
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

Convenient and reasonable. The continental breakfast could use help, line was very long, food was sparse. I would stay again though, hoping for improvement in that area.

The hotel is in walking distance to many nice shops and restaurants in Old Montreal. Nice visit.

We stayed at this hotel in Montreal for the Fourth of July weekend. This hotel is in a very strategic location. Almost everything from Old Town to Downtown is at walking distance. You can easily spend 3 days there and not have to hop on to a cab. You can walk to museums, churches, shopping malls, restaurants and just about anything from this hotel w/o getting tired. Stay your day with a hearty hot breakfast (It gets crowded after 8.00 AM) and then go visit the places nearby. Outstanding location is an understatement. The staff is also very caring and do whatever they can to ensure you have a comfortable stay.

We have stayed at this location on two occasions so far as our son resides in Montreal. The hotel is in Old Montreal in easy walking distance to many of the attractions there. The staff is helpful and welcoming. The rooms are fairly spacious although our last room could have used another chair. The internet works well. The breakfast is substantial. There is a small pool and a small work out room. The downside of being in Old Montreal is the noise late at night on a Saturday from hordes of pedestrians. Being on a side street helps a little. Or maybe just join in. You do have to pay to park but they charge by 24 hour periods and not each day. They also offered to hold our luggage so we could get our money's worth from parking. One downside is that there is not a nearby Metro. The hotel is equidistant between two stops. We thought the price, while not cheap, was reasonable for the location. Also the rooms have a small kitchen area with a refrigerator and microwave. We will definitely stay here again.

We stayed here over the Canada Day weekend for a gathering of sorts. For tourist Montreal, location is as good as it takes (Note: this would not be my first choice if we were in Montreal alone: old Montreal its NOT 'foodie' Montreal).

The rooms were excellent: large, clean, well maintained and all the necessary amenities, basically what you would expect from a good Marriot. no problems with the bed either (Note: air conditioning can be noisy).

breakfast buffet was standard and included in price of room (Note: in the legendary food city of Montreal, consider skipping the free hotel buffet and getting something exciting for breakfast, like a chocolate eclair at the nearby Maison Christian Faure!).

reception was friendly and helpful (Note: they seemed at times understaffed for a busy weekend. some patience would help)

parking by valet was smoothly handled (Note: again, understaffed for a busy weekend. some patience, and giving early notice for when you need the car, would help)

all in all though a very pleasant stay.

We (again) booked the SpringHill Suites for our anniversary stay. It never disappoints. From the moment you drive in and valet parks your car (which you may access as many times as you'd like) in the attached garage, to the front desk personnel welcoming you. We were checked in by Vlad who had us laughing in seconds! (Mostly due to my attempt at French!) We were both laughing and smiling before we even made it to our suite! And what a lovely suite it was. Spacious, clean, comfortable.
The little kitchenette is perfect. There is a microwave, complete with disposable cutlery, a fridge (perfect for chilling wine); a coffeemaker and a sink. The breakfast included is excellent. It has changed over the years, with some healthful items added. The waffle maker is gone (which is not missed) -- replaced with fresh fruit. They had cubes of pineapple and delicious strawberries on our stay. White bread has been replaced with whole grain bread. The staples remain...scrambled eggs, pork sausages, a small selection of ham and cheese, yogurts, etc. There is always whole fresh fruit available as well...apples, bananas, etc., as well as cooked oatmeal and a selection of cold cereals. For those who have posted negatively about this breakfast, I can only imagine that they were expecting a chef cooking eggs and omelets to order. However, the staff here works feverously to replace items, and considering this breakfast is built into the price you are paying, it is wonderful.
If you are looking for a hotel in a wonderful area, with parking at a nominal fee, staffed with wonderful friendly people, look no further.

Contrary to my expectations, the Springhill Suites was not a sprawling hotel. It is a compact hotel located on a side street off the main streets of Old Montreal, in the middle of the pedestrian street close to the river. Breakfasts were great and included protein, not just a continental breakfast, and service for anything else I needed was prompt (e.g. cream for the morning coffee in the room). I was very pleased that the hotel honoured my conference room rate for the two days after the conference.

Room Tip: I chose a room with morning sun to help with jet lag. The front of the hotel is vulnerable to some...

After having our flight cancelled and being re-routed to Ottawa and driving 114 miles in the dark we arrived to find a friendly man behind the hotel desk. He greeted us with a smile and professionalism. The room was clean, quiet and a great refuge after 17 hours of flying and driving! It's a typical Spring Hill Suites, but the location offers close proximity to great restaurants, the convention center and many important sites.
