“Anniversary Weekend”

A wonderful Boutique Hotel in a great location. The staff especially the Concierge "Yannis" planned our perfect weekend in Montreal. The rooms were lovely and very relaxing. I would highly recommend this hotel.

This is a very beautiful hotel in a great location. The building itself and the way it has been designed and decorated is gorgeous. Expensive furniture and details, great service, and a feeling of luxury. The only hiccup was that we were first placed in a room with one bed when we requested 2 through the booking site (not the hotel's). This was not the fault of the hotel by any means and they promptly had another room for us. The only thing is that the first room was amazing and we were in love at first sight. The way it was decorated, the rain shower, everything about it. The second room was very plain- not at all like the first. No chandelier, rain shower, sitting area, nice finishes etc. It was still quite nice but just like a regular hotel. We couldn't ask to go back but we did regret not squeezing ourselves into that one bed. Most of the pictures are of the 1st room. Anyway- the service was fantastic, the turndown was great, and the spa was phenomenal. I will absolutely stay here again when I come back and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Loved 605, not 807

We stay at a lot of very nice places, and the St. James is certainly one of our favourites in the category "city hotels." The hotel architecture exudes plenty of Old World charisma. We particularly liked the library right by the entrance: A perfect lobby to spend some time, have drinks, and flip through the books (some of them are really interesting and rare finds).

When we checked in, we were upgraded to one of the bigger suites. It had all we wanted and needed, two baths, one of which was very spacious, with gorgeous marble and other fine materials. The only thing that was not so nice was that the shower head had obviously been in use for quite some time, so the spray was irregular and a little too strong to be totally comfortable.

Concierge Yannis worked hard to keep us happy, with all our spontaneous changes of mind... He made sure we could get everywhere we wanted with no queuing up, which is nice when you have a limited time budget.

If the spa and fitness facilities are your most important criterion, the St James is probably not for you. These are very limited. I used the fitness room in the basement once and felt a little claustrophobic.

A nice detail is that through the restaurant XO, you can actually access and leave the hotel St James without having to ever be outdoors: It's connected to the Montreal underground walkway and metro system.

I can absolutely recommend the St James for a city trip in style.

We stayed at the St James for my 50th birthday at the end of September. Front desk was kind enough to acknowledge my birthday by sending up lovely chocolates, bottled water, and a card. The key to the room is on a weighted gold tassel...my only thought was adding that weight to my pocketbook, but not to worry, you leave the key at the front desk and just retrieve it every time you come back to your room. Sometimes this was a bit annoying if front desk was helping someone and you felt uncomfortable to interrupt to get the key. The hotel is run as a first class establishment. They want the guest to feel special and attended to. The rooms are quite roomy, very comfy beds, and a very large bathroom. You are greeted every time you enter the hotel and each time you leave. Doorman there at all times. The only problem we had at the hotel was that the mini bar was missing. We did notify front desk and they said they would replace it but that never happened. We only stayed two nights and probably didn't need the cocktails in the room...but always nice to have the option. We did not dine in the hotel, but XO is nicely decorated, we did sit at the bar for drinks and the bartender was very friendly. I will say the food and drink prices are on the high side, this coming from a New Yorker! This hotel is located just right for walking to many great sightseeing spots. I hope to make it back to Old Montreal, and if I do, I will consider another stay at the Le St James.

We spent a weekend at the St James as a mini holiday. This boutique hotel is in an old bank building on St James St. The building is from an era when this part of Montreal was the centre of commerce in Canada.

The feel of the hotel is very european. You leave your key at the front desk when you go out. The key is on a big weight, but the key itself is a high tech digital design, All of the small touches were done well. A spray bottle of Molton Brown scent for the pillows was a nice touch I had not seen elsewhere.

The bed was comfortable, the shower was great with lots of hot water under high pressure. The room was filled with current copies of an assortment of magazines. Very relaxing place to hide away for a few days. The staff quickly learns your name and addresses by it as you come and go. Nice touch. Makes the hotel feel like home.

The spa was small and private. Meals and drinks in the adjoining XO restaurant were premium priced for food that was good and service that was a bit off. At $40 per person for breakfast they really should offer you a second cup of coffee or to refill your glass of orange juice.

The connection to the Montreal underground city and Metro was convenient during rainy weather.

A new favourite hide away.

We recently stayed in the Hotel Le St James for 2 nights and found it to be a most comfortable and welcoming experience. Supremely comfortable beds and a decent bathroom. Our only quibble was with poor lighting in the bedroom and slightly aggressive and noisy air conditioning. Staff were very pleasant and obliging in the main. Breakfast in the XO restaurant was plentiful and extensive, here again service was excellent. Dinner in that restaurant was more a case of style over substance and whilst pleasant enough, was an average experiece, but maybe we were simply too tired.
Apart from that, the hotel was a very good place to stay, and one which we would most certainly choose on any future visits to Montreal
