“Wonderful spot in heart of Montreal”
Reviewed 5 July 2013

We arrived by cruise ship. Hotel is a short taxi ride from the pier. We arrived early and checked our baggage with the bellman while we explored the city. Our room was spacious and immaculate. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. The location is quiet, yet close to shopping, underground and tours originating at Dorchester Square. The hotel is also convenient to the Quartier des Spectacles, McGill University and the rail station. There are many street cafes within walking distance. The hotel has an enclosed rooftop pool and an excercise room as well as an open-air sun deck. We were very comfortable. We will stay there again when in Montreal.

Room Tip: Book well in advance and arrive early in the day.

We really liked our room. Oversized, clean & comfortable. Bathroom was very modern and kitchen is a added bonus. The continental breakfast was very good even without eggs. Coffee, Bagels, muffins and fruit were great and plenty to get us started for the day. Breakfast room on the second floor was nice and bright with a view of the street below. Love the huge windows throughout the hotel. We took the Via Rail into Montreal and it was a short 2 block walk to the hotel. There is a Metro stop (McGill) just around the corner, along with some neighborhood restaurants. We considered staying in Old Montreal and we are glad we did not, its ok to visit, but the downtown area has much more to offer. Old Montreal is really a big tourist trap so limit your time there and explore other parts of the city. The markets were impressive (Jean Talon & Atwater) were both very nice, Jean Talon is much bigger, both had exceptional food vendors at reasonable prices. The hotel was also very convenient to the Jazz Fest, it makes a great home base for that.

I stayed here 3 nights for the Montreal International Jazz Festival and this hotel did not disappoint. It was everything that was described. Great job fellow TA reviewers! Your descriptions were spot on. Even though mentioned in the previous reviews I was still blown away by how immaculate and huge the suite was. The full kitchen was fully appointed. The staff were all very friendly and willing to accommodate. Only a 10 minute walk to the Festival and neatly tucked away on a more quiet street. Plenty of places to eat only steps away. This would be a great place to stay for a longer visit because it's like a small apartment. I only wish I could have stayed longer... Cant speak on the breakfast because I fell in love with a little creperie/café around the corner. This is now my go to hotel whenever I visit Montreal again. Ce Magnifique!

We stayed here for three nights while attending the Montreal jazz festival. Our son chose this hotel and accompanied us to Montreal. The suite was lovely and, as others have written, has a full kitchen with dishwasher. Although we chose to eat at some of the many wonderful nearby restaurants, it was great to have the refrigerator for wine, leftovers and late night snacks. We used the work- out room, which has nice cardio and weight equipment. Had we had more time I am sure we would have used the pool and outdoor patio as well. Breakfast was simple but plentiful and the coffee was good. All staff that we met were helpful and extremely pleasant. The location is close to shopping, art museums, arts venues and public transportation. We would definitely return to this lovely hotel.

We stayed here for a total of 3 nights over 2 different stays. We stayed here one nite before traveling to Tremblant and 2 nites after our Tremblant stay.
The hotel is beautiful on a quiet stretch of Place Phillips but close to shops on St. Catherine Street , the underground city, and Places Des Artes. My family and I utilized the gym, indoor pool, and laundry facilities. It was nice having a full kitchen and we also partook in the breakfast. Service was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

We stayed at the hotel for a 4-day trip to Montreal as a family retreat (parents and 5 year old). This was our second stay here - we were last here when our son was 2 years old, and we had such a positive experience, we decided to come back.

We stayed once again in a King 1-bedroom suite - we really, really appreciate the 2nd room so as to avoid sitting in the dark when our early-to-bed son goes to sleep, so we payed the extra. This suite has way, way more room than we need as a family of 3, but we're not going to complain! The bedroom is large enough for a Pack'n'Play (we know this from our trip 3 years ago - they provided it) in addition to the bed. There is plenty of storage in the bedroom and in the suite overall. This time, though, we had our son fall asleep on the King bed, and then we transferred him to the mattress from the sofa bed that we just moved to the floor in the living room, as there was plenty of room, and he rolls out of beds otherwise. The housekeeping staff even made up the bed there on the floor (we hadn't intended for them to have to do that- oops! - but it was only one time).

We used the kitchen less this time, but it is a full kitchen (including dishwasher!) and equipped with all the basics. Back when the boy was 2, we used it a lot more, as we couldn't go out much for supper, so we ordered in and made some simple meals ourselves. There was no corkscrew, but they provided one when we asked.

The ceilings are just amazingly high - it is something to behold. On the 5th floor, we didn't have a great view (but we had no complaints), but 3 years ago we were higher up and it was great.

Overall, the room was very quiet - we really value this, and we had no complaints.

There is a full bathroom, with a tub, which is crucial for us to facilitate bedtime.

The breakfast is simple but plentiful - lots of breads, bagels, muffins, etc., cereals, fresh fruit, juices, milk, coffee/tea. Given that it's included, it's totally fine- but if you have young kids who get up early, note that it only opens at 7:00 a.m. on weekends. We knew this so we had a stash of yogurt and fruit in the room to get us through until the breakfast room opened.

The wifi was included and worked well - not the speediest, but very functional.

We used the pool a number of times, and it's great -it's heated, so it's quite warm. Parents can stand in it comfortably, but it's deep for young kids - fortunately, our son can swim, so less of a worry for us, though we were with him all the time. It's not huge, but we were usually the only ones using it the whole time we were there.

I tried to use the treadmills in the exercise room, but the afternoon I tried it was super-hot outside, so too hot in that room (lots of windows). It is well equipped though, and I think that it was really just the near 40 degree heat outside that was the problem.

Part of the appeal for this hotel is its location. It is less than a 5 minute walk (with a 5 year old) to the Green line metro station (McGill) and about a 5-10 minute walk to the Orange line (Sq Victoria). In crummy weather, there is the amazing underground network of malls, etc., within 5 minutes. It took us less than 15 minutes to get to Old Montreal, and about 20 minutes to get to the Biodome at the Olympic Stadium, on a day when the Metro was on a holiday schedule. There is an IGA grocery store within walking distance too to stock up. It's walkable to the Gare Centrale, but we chose to take a taxi due to our luggage. And, it's walkable to Starbucks and other coffee places- key for us!

Our only complaints? Very minor.

a) We were there over the St. Jean Batiste holiday - and the attached restaurant was closed for Sunday and Monday. Not a big deal for us, but it might be for some. Many other places nearby were open, though.

b) The toilet seat is one of the elongated ones - and hard for a 5-year-old to use. There was one episode of falling in. Nothing was injured other than pride, and I don't know what you do about this... c'est la vie!

c) This is very minor, but the few times we looked for kids' programming on the TV, we couldn't find any that was appropriate for a 5 year old. Fortunately, we don't come to Montreal to watch TV, and we brought our own devices for the few times we needed some down-time, so it was no big deal for us. We might also have missed the appropriate stuff, but all we found was Teletoon, which doesn't have much our son would watch.

d) On the TV note, the breakfast room has a TV, and it was either turned on (very loud) to the news or to movies, both of which scared our son (I don't need him watching explosions, etc.). There is a separate room (behind the food) but the TV was on there too. We managed by having his back to the TV, but it meant we didn't linger in the room much at all.

Otherwise, we had a great trip. We will be back.

Room Tip: Room 501 was quiet, spacious, and well laid-out. The view wasn't great (roofs of buildings), but...

The staff, who spoke English and French, was helpful and friendly. Our two bedroom suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable. And the beds were also comfortable. We enjoyed the pool, exercise room, and laundry facilities. The hotel is walking distance from restaurants we enjoyed. One evening we stayed in and had room service from the restaurant on site and we enjoyed the food. We enthusiastically recommend this hotel.
