“Apartment for the price of a hotel room”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

Le Square Phillips is a great value for those looking for something more homey than a hotel stay. The 'rooms' are really apartments with a decent size kitchen and dining area. The interior furnishing are a bit dated but overall still a fairly comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable. We had two couples staying in a two double beds suite and there were more than enough room for all of us to roam around.

The kitchen is fairly well stocked. They have full size refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave oven, dishwasher, cooking utensils, wine glasses and all kinds dining wares. However, they do not have spice rack or any cooking oil. Most of the knifes in our room were quite dull so keep that in mind if you are planning to do any serious cooking.

Hotel complimentary breakfast was wonderful. It is continental style but they have great varieties. Love those Montreal style bagels.

If weather permits do spend some time at their roof top pool. The night sky of Montreal downtown is beautiful.

Terrific alternative to pricey downtown hotel rooms, this Cormier building (renovated from its former glory as a warehouse) boasts high ceilings, quirky architectural details and simple comfort. Kitchens have full sized appliances including dishwasher, with adequate utensils/cooking implements, though a microwave-safe, covered casserole for heating food would be a welcome addition. Quite quiet too, with no noise from the street (we were on the top, tenth floor), no sound spill over from neighbours (except some click clacking high heels on either the ceramic bathroom or kitchen floor middle of the night!). We had a queen studio and the sleeping alcove, though it had no window, was cozy and well appointed. For take away prepared foods, there's a Fou d'Ici within five minutes walk on de Maisonneuve, as well as a SAQ for wine. The weather was wet and windy, so didn't get the opportunity to check out the roof deck, but it looks lovely from the pix online.

We had been looking for a new place to stay as our favourite Hotel du Fort has closed and this is it. Not quite as large or bright as Hotel du Fort's suites, and not the same type of fabulous view with large windows on two sides, but it's certainly got a better location and better amenities.

Staff was gracious and friendly and helpful. Very clean too.

Included breakfast was fine. Every carb imaginable, including some gluten free choices, fruits, yoghurt, coffee/tea. You can eat in the breakfast room or take food up to your suite on a tray. They don't frown on this, so no one is sneaking apples, muffins and yoghurt out in their purse!

Stayed here for 2 nights in early November. The location is fantastic... it's a short walk from everything: metro, train station, rue Sainte-Catherine, the Old Port, McGill University... the works! Even better, the price was within our range (~$150/night).

The lobby is welcoming, and the staff are polite and professional. Original architectural elements from the building's early days as a warehouse are tastefully displayed and incorporated into an updated decor.

At a roomy 400+ square feet, the room was practically a suite, or a small studio apartment--it had a full kitchen (with oven!), in addition to a dining area, a comfortable work desk and large windows. (Ours overlooked an office building across the street.)

Furthermore, the room was clean, spacious and well-lit. I often find that lighting is a problem in other hotels, but at the Square Phillips, the rooms are equipped with halogen spotlights, task lights, and dimmable ceiling lights.

A free continental breakfast was included with our stay. It didn't have the most varied selection, but the food was fresh and plentiful, and the breakfast room was a bright, welcoming and lively space for guests to gather and socialize.

Overall, our stay at Le Square Phillips Hôtel et Suites was fantastic... we'll be staying here next time we're in Montreal!

This hotel is very central to downtown and old Montreal. Good value for money. Everything is clean and modern, and the rooms comes with a kitchen and dining area, free internet and free breakfast. I was on the 10th floor which was very quiet, however, a colleague had room 1017 which was next to the pool pump so he found it a bit noisy when the pump motor turned on. Staff were friendly, breakfast had a good selection. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Top floor is quieter from city noise, but I heard that room 1017 is next to the pool pump so can be...

Le Square Phillips has the advantage of providing both apartment living AND hotel service. One block away from La Baie and the major downtown shopping district, just steps away from the gateway to Vieux-Montréal, adjacent to two metro lines. Super value with super nice staff, too!

Please contact me if you find better! This suite style hotel is perfectly situated downtown. This hotel includes a beautiful roof top indoor pool, the best "continental" breakfast I've ever had, large immaculate rooms with ceilings that give a very grand feeling to each room, and kind/respectful/helpful staff and valet parking. I truly doubt you will find another hotel that can beat this one!

This is my new "go-to" hotel when I need to be in Montreal.

Very, very good hotel! Where will I start?
Location: very central, right in downtown and the hub of activity. Very close to McGill university. A few blocks from Metro and bus stops.
Appearance: the lobby is so nice I did not think that this is a suite-hotel. The concierge and the front desk people are very helpful.
Rooms: very spacious. The alcove suite we got is bigger than a 2-double bed room we get in other hotels. It has a spacious kitchen with enough equipment to make simple meals.
It is a few dollars more expensive than a regular king-bedroom but it will make up for the meals that you can cook and eat in inside the suite.
Breakfast is ok. But can be improved. Maybe add a hot meal to it?
The only problem I had was the laundry room. Can it be outside the gym or even have a door outside the gym? It is very inconvenient to go around the gym and open again another door to have access to the laundry.
Overall, I would stay here again when I visit Montreal.
