“Warm and inviting hotel in a great location”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

We stayed at the Nelligan following our cruise. It's convenient to the dock, restaurants and shops. The hotel is warm and inviting, with some interesting architectural details like the brick walls and wood beams. The staff was friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel Nelligan for Thanksgiving week 2013. Our hotel is an important choice for us and can make a difference in our vacation experience.

We were thrilled with the Hotel Nelligan. Since it was Thanksgiving time back in CT it was even more important that we were so warmly welcomed by the staff at the hotel. As we’d return from dinner each night we’d get a very friendly and interested greeting from Nathalia and the “the bald guy” ( he’s own moniker not mine.) It was like friends asking about our dining experience.

I had done a lot of research on things we wanted to visit and do while in Montreal so we sat down with Nathalia, the concierge, soon after our arrival. She was a huge help suggesting restaurants, guiding us on Metro use, explaining the neighborhoods and shopping venues and historic sites.

The hotel location can’t be beat- smack in the middle of the historic old town and an easy walk to the Metro. Many good dinner choices in an easy 5 minute walk. Our favorite was Bonaparte. We loved the walk home after a wonderful meal.

Our room was huge. (#307) The bed was very comfortable. We had a wonderful vacation.

Stayed here for 2 nights in July 2013, front desk were very friendly and helpful. Valet took care of parking which in old Montreal is convenient. Our stay here was very relaxing, the beds were the most comfortable I have ever slept in as were the pillows.. The walls were brick which gave a very cozy feel and with the wood beams made you really have sense of history of the neighborhood, which dates back to the early beginnings of Montreal. High end television with bedside radios that support your I phone were a nice touch. Our room also had a fireplace which would be nice in colder months. Great location. Definitely will stay again.

My husband and I spent 3 nights in this delightful hotel, ideally situated in the old town. The welcome and service are warm and efficient, the room large and comfortable. We recommend the signature restaurant where we had a superb dinner.Breakfast is served with a smile and is delicious too. A very pleasant place to stay , especially in the summer , where there will be more activity around.

We spent 2 nights at Hotel Nelligan, in a Petit Suite, for my spouse's birthday. We had a package that included continental breakfast, valet parking, and free internet. Price was reasonable for the area and quality of the room.
We pulled up in front of the building and someone came to the car right away. Check in was fast and easy.
Staff was pleasant and spoke both French and English. Special mention to Maude, the concierge. She was very friendly and helpful.
We ordered ice and it was at our door within 5 minutes. My spouse received a card and chocolate covered strawberries for his birthday. Nice touch.

We chose to have "quiet" rather than the view, so our room looked at another building. That was a choice we made. We had no issues with noise during our stay.
We loved the exposed brick walls. The bathroom with double jacuzzi with separate shower was large and clean. I wasn't a fan of the toiletries. To me, they smelled like Vicks.
The bed and pillows were superb. The fireplace looked great but was a bit of a let down. It may have had fake flames at one time. It had a light, or you could have a tiny red tinge to the fake logs. It did throw heat though.
Room was spacious and very appealing. It was cozy, romantic and modern.
Turn down service was good with yummy Lindor chocolates and bottled water. Although we were out most of the morning and part of the afternoon, our room wasn't cleaned until mid-afternoon.

The common areas, including the elevators, were nicely decorated and pleasing.
The only "not so great" area for us was the lounge area, although very cozy. Perhaps they were short staffed during our stay, but it was next to impossible to get any service. Although it wasn't busy, after 15 minutes of waiting, we went and got our own drinks at the bar. A couple came in off the street to have food and drinks. After sitting with the menus for a longer than necessary amount of time, they made a complaint and left. It seemed to be that way throughout the weekend.
The location is terrific.
Overall, a very good experience. I would recommend this hotel.
We would stay here again, and I would still take "quiet" over the view. The streets are very narrow so I'm not convinced the view would be worth the noise that comes with it.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Always a pleasure to help a fellow traveler.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are quieter.

All I can do is concur with the other reviews of this delightful hotel. Merveilleux is marvelous in french and this hotel and staff are exactly that. All staff speak french but gladly transition to English which we needed. From the front desk, concierge, and restuarant staff all were quite enjoyable and friendly. Kind of a hip vibe with exposed brick and different ceiling heights in the common areas. The exposed brick continued into the spotless and fully equipped room. Great water pressure and plenty of hot water too. Superb location and would definitely stay there again if the opportunity arose.

Room Tip: If want a view request it as some have limited views.

My wife and I recently spent a weekend in Montreal and stayed at the delightful Hotel Nelligan in the old port section of the city. First off, the location is fantastic, tucked in behind the Notre Dame Basilica on Rue St. Paul, a narrow, winding, cobblestone street packed with dozens of fantastic restaurants, bars and boutiques. You could basically spend a week and never have to venture farther than a few hundred yards from the hotel. But Montreal is very walkable, making this an excellent location for seeing the whole city. The hotel itself is beautiful, having undergone a recent multi-million-dollar reno. Lots of exposed brick walls and wood beams from the original building mixed in with modern design finishes. The lobby is very inviting and the bustling bar and restaurant give the place a very "happening" feel. The staff were all extremely friendly and efficient and greeted us with vouchers for complimentary drinks at the bar. Our room was lovely: spacious, spotless, quiet and very comfortable. The rates were also very very reasonable given the quality of the accommodations. Because of the time of year, the rooftop bar was closed, but I gather it's a real neighbourhood hotspot during the warmer months. We hope to get back again soon to check it out.
