We spent 4 nights at the Gault and from the moment we got there every single member of staff was pleasant and helpful. The location is perfect for a leisure break, very convenient but quiet.
The room was spacious, light and airy, the bed was huge and comfortable. Only thing that would be helpful would an in room tea/ coffee making facility, especially for us folks from Europe. I travel the world over and am very pernickety and I was was very pleased with our stay.

Room Tip: Loft suites are perfect - room 230!

I have been a repeat guest this year as a result of a relocation to Montreal. The staff have made me feel like I am at home every day versus being in a hotel. Beyond the wonderful and attentive staff, the hotel is so comfortable with the most quiet rooms. Perfect location in Old Montreal for the tourist, but for the business person, still very easy to get into and out of for your meetings. Finally, the fact that Five Guys is one block away, just makes the Gault something to try over and over again.

If you are staying in the old town of Montreal, the location of this hotel is ideal. It is close to all the charm but far enough from the hustle of rue St Paul. Our room was very spacious and comfortable (the bedding is reason to sleep in just a little bit longer). Above all, however, is the friendly and helpful staff. Whether sitting at the bar and chatting, or inquiring of restaurant recommendations, you will find them exceptional. They pointed us to restaurants that we would not have found on our own as typical tourist – all excellent. They made all of our reservations including that for a rental car when our flight home was cancelled due to weather. The hotel was a memorable part of our Montreal visit.

We stayed at Hotel Gault for three nights over Labor Day weekend, and couldn't have had a better experience. We were in room 510, which has a terrace on one side and an amazing view on the other. The terrace was a great place to eat breakfast (the room service breakfast was delicious, but beware that there is an additional $6 "hotel delivery" charge in addition to the $5 room service charge, which can make getting room service expensive.) The room itself was lovely in a very modern way, with poured concrete floors and interesting artwork. The bed was incredibly comfortable (maybe too comfortable, since we slept almost 12 hours on both of our first two nights!), and the bathroom amenities were great. You will never be cold or wish you had more water pressure white staying at Hotel Gault, that's for sure. And if you're staying in the winter (or just have cold feet all the time), the bathroom's heated floors are a nice touch.

The service and location were also superb. Andre, the concierge, could not have been nicer or more helpful. We needed a dinner reservation for the night we arrived, and he had one for us in just a few minutes. if we asked for a taxi, one pulled up almost instantaneously. Every single person we dealt with was courteous and helpful. And on top of that, there's free wifi, they'll lend you an ipad if you need one and they give you as many (free) water bottles during your stay as you need. Plus the hotel is right in the center of the historic district (near tons of shops and restaurants), and there are several metro stops in close walking distance that can take you anywhere you want to go.

A final word on price - my feeling is that this hotel is priced well for a luxury hotel. It's not cheap by any means, but you get comparable service and amenities to name brand five star hotels for less money and with a much more personable staff. They also have a prepay option, where you get a slightly lower rate if you pay at the time you book. We used that, and it worked out incredibly well. If you know you're going to be in Montreal and there's no chance that you'll cancel, it's a great deal.

We love Montreal, and Hotel Gault made our stay this time even better than usual. We'll definitely be back.

We spent a lovely Labour Day weekend at Hotel Gault. The hotel is housed in a former YMCA in an historic building at the edge of Old Montreal. The hotel has been completely gutted and turned into a very contemporary boutique hotel. The location is superb as it is at the corner of two very quiet streets and away from the major foot traffic of the old city yet close enough to walk to restaurants, the subway and other attractions. If the hotel was busy, we would never have known as we rarely saw other guests.

We stayed in a Junior Suite on the 2nd floor and it was a very large room with a stone/exposed brick wall, two sets of operational French doors, a king bed, a large free-standing acrylic soaker tub as well as a separate glassed shower with an adjustable Grohe rainhead and a separate WC as well as a very ample supply of Molten Brown products, an abundance of very good, thick, fluffy towels and a magnifying make-up mirror. The bed was extremely comfortable with very good linens, as others have noted. However, the floors are polished concrete and while they provide a funky, industrial vibe, they don't look clean and are not very comfortable as a living space surface. Terry slippers and robes are provided and with those floors you'll want to wear the slippers as the floors look and feel dirty. There are small area rugs (maybe 3 x 5) on each side of the bed, but these were quite filthy and badly in need of cleaning. The drapes are blackout drapes but they are falling off their tracks and you have to manoeuver them a certain way to get them to stay closed. There is very ample closet and drawer space, a safe, minibar, iPhone/iPod docking station and 42" flat screen TV.

The hotel has a tiny lobby area dedicated to being a restaurant for breakfast as well as a bar area in the lobby but we never saw anyone at the bar.

A few minor things were missing:
- hotel book with hotel and local information
- TV guide
- a bedside clock
- magazines related to Montreal

But the most notable about The Gault is the staff. We have stayed at the best hotels all over the world and the staff were simply wonderful. They could not do enough. Upon arrival we were offered a beverage and chose an ice tea and an espresso. No charge. When we came back from our daily excursions, the staff eagerly wanted to hear about where we went and what we did. One day after four and a half hours of walking in extreme heat and humidity, icy bottles of water were proffered without asking. No charge. The concierge asked what restos we'd picked and provided tips and suggestions. I cannot say enough about the warmth, friendliness and service orientation of every staff member we met. And as a result, we were able to overlook some of the little things I mentioned above.

We look forward to returning to Hotel Gault.

My wife and I visited Montreal from Boca Raton, Florida and weren't sure what our overall experience would be. From the minute we stepped into the Gault Hotel in Montreal,we were treated as if we were close friends. They took care of everything with that gracious Canadian hospitality and professionalism. The room was over 400 sq. ft and had a large bathroom. But, truly what made this hotel great was its staff. They couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.
Do yourself a big favor. Skip the pretentious and overpriced hotels and come to the Hotel Gault. You will not be disappointed!!
