This hotel is pretty seedy. From all appearances it appears to be a working brothel with accommodation. The rooms are average, and grubby, the walls paper thin, and the people staying here are pretty undesirable. It's cheap and in a decent location, so you get what you pay for. We spent the night kept awake by drunks staying here and loud and obnoxious sex from the rooms on both sides of us, and above us. Avoid this place if you want to sleep. One positive the wifi is fast and free.

Room Tip: Bring earplugs, and a sense of humour.

THE PROS:

Low Price: The price is low at only $100/night approximately for 2 double beds. $119 per night for the room we get on the 4th floor that's huge with 3 double sized beds.

Free Breakfast: A fabulous touch having breakfast hot croissants, baguettes, juice, and coffee delivered to your room's door every morning at the time you specify and this additional "special" service is included at no additional charge.

Convenient Area: It's located very conveniently for Rue St. Denis which is only a few minutes walk from Berri-UQAM and Beaudry metro stations. If you like walking, it's only about 20 minutes to downtown for great shopping, and about the same to Old Montreal and lots of great sight-seeing.

Helpful Staff: The reception front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. The staff that cleans the rooms doesn't speak English well so if you want something ask at the front desk.

Wood Floors in Rooms: Although the corridor carpets are filthy, we stay o the 4th floor which has hardwood floors in the rooms so cleaner than a room with carpet.

THE CONS:

Seedy: Rue Sainte-Catherine (St Catherines Street) near the hotel is a bit seedy, as is the entire Gay Village area. with lots of street people and people in motorized wheelchairs, especially during the summer when the street becomes the pedestrian walking mall without access to cars.

Noisy: it's very noisy, both inside and outside the hotel. The walls are very thin so you hear guests talking and walking through the corridors and anything going on in the rooms around you. The street outside is noisy on weekends.

Parking: They have only 9 spots for guests in the gated area in the back but next door in the hostel there is now parking at only $10/night and it is much easier to come and go with your vehicle is you pay, rather than taking the free parking in the back. There is also parking at the library close by at only $10/night but it's a bit of a walk. Street parking around the St Andre isn't safe so pay the money so your car doesn't get broken into.

Air Conditioners: The air conditioners are extremely old and very loud, so the temperature in the room can be either way too hot or way too cold – hard to get perfect.

Inferior Blinds: The plastic white vertical blinds are TERRIBLE. Most are broken and there are always large gaps in them that let 100% of light in so don't be planning on sleeping in unless you can sleep in a fully sunlight filled room. Also the blinds rattle loudly if you have your window open at all so if you are not a sound sleeper it can be a real pain.

Very Run Down. The carpets in the corridor are full of dirty, disgusting stains and need replacing badly. The paint on the walls is peeling. The furniture is very old and worn out.

Bed Bugs: We have stayed here 4 years in a row as a group taking 6 rooms on the 4th floor every September. Last September when we stayed there the usual room we requested was “under renovations” but we later found out 4 rooms on the top floor had been found to have bed bugs and they were fumigating as we stayed there in the room next door to ours.

Room Tip: Call ahead to ensure you get a room with a working air conditioner or blinds if you want them.

A strange hostel that calls itself a hotel. The bed takes up most of the room, with about 12 inches left on each side of it for moving around. Each room is the size of a walk-in closet, and parking is available if you're willing to scratch and cram your car into a tiny lot behind the building. You hear anything and everything through the huge gaps under the room doors. Also, I forgot my tablet in the room after checking out and immediately called the front desk to ask them to look for it in the room. They did not call back until 1-2 weeks later and told me the cleaning lady didn't find anything...when she was the only person who went in there after we had left. They didn't want to do anything else about it and told me they would believe their cleaning lady over me. So if you are looking to donate some of your expensive electronics to sticky-handed cleaning ladies, this is the perfect hotel for you to go to in Montreal.

The hotel has a great location within walking distance to the Old Port. I liked the basic breakfast, served in room, of breads, honey, and tea or coffee. Bed was Ok, room was clean, had plenty of hot water. The staff was very friendly. Parking was available at the hostel next to it for a reasonable price.

A quirky little hotel, quite good value, with breakfast served to your door! It's located very conveniently for Rue St. Denis, and is only a few minutes from Berri-UQAM metro station. If you like walking, it's only about 20 minutes to downtown from there, and about the same to the old city. On the downside, though, it's very noisy, both inside the hotel (guests shouting and walking heavily along the corridor) and the street outside is noisy at the weekend.

The hotel, unfortunately, is very run down. The carpets on the corridor need replacing, the paint on the walls is peeling, and the shower (at least in my room) could do with a good cleaning. On the plus side, the receptionstaff is very friendly and helpful.

Le St. Andre always acommodates a quick and clean get away w'end with a great location just off St. Catherine Est. with Metro steps away and the Village at your doorstep. Room rates are just right for a couple of nights stay. Once can always splurge at myriad hotels in DT Montreal - but when you're wanting a more modest trip - Le St. Andre fits the bill. Will happily continue to stay when the need arises.

Room Tip: You may want a couple more pillows as the current ones are small and thin.

I've stayed here 4-5 times over the past 3 years and have watched this place deteriorate. First they made the breakfast even more basic then they did away with free parking. This time, we got a room where the shower flooded the bathroom and the TV (a tiny square thing from the early 90s) didn't work. Not only did it not turn on with the remote but it didn't manually either. In fact, the power button was missing altogether. We alerted the staff to this on Day 1/3 and at checkout...they offered no compensation and didn't even offer the charade of taking notes. Stayed in room 338.

All in all, it's a great place to stay in the gay village if you're on a budget and want to be close to the action...just don't expect any frills or staff who care.
