“we thought it was fabulous and would come back any time”
Reviewed 18 July 2011

From the minute we arrived, the hotel staff were as helpful as any people could have been!!! They helped us bring all of our luggage up the 3 flights of steps to our room, they were responsive to all of our needs, they stored our bikes for us, they parked our car for us, etc.............The restaurant downstairs, Ethiopian, was excellent and our meal was very pleasant. The room was very comfortable, well equipped, the bathroom was beautiful, the place was really clean. The supplied us w/ everything in the kitchen area and even toothbrushes and toothpaste. I can't say enough good things about our stay and would love to come back ASAP. The neighborhood is great too - right in the middle of the Latin Quarter - and accessible to many bars, restaurants, and great shopping. One block from the Metro too, so you can get anywhere you need to in the city from here.

What a welcome - we arrived early (1pm), well ahead of the advertised check-in time (4pm) but this was not a problem. We were greeted, checked in and although our room was not ready for us to use our bags were stored and were in our room when we returned later in the afternoon.
This is a small 9 room boutique hotel; our room was beautiful - very comfortable and well equipped with cooking facilities in addition to a separate seating area.
The front desk staff were incredibly polite and helpful on check in and check out.
We had breakfast on the patio in the adjoining Blue Nile Restaurant (Ethiopian cuisine) - a very good breakfast with an Ethiopian twist.
The location of this hotel is very good with a good variety of shops and restaurants nearby - the Metro is two blocks away.

The coffee machine made excellent coffee. The room was lovely and very well-equipped, king bed, huge bath, small kitchenette, cabled internet access. The staff were really good (although sometimes it was hard to get hold of reception). I would highly recommend the breakfast for extra $10 and it was nice to have room service. The cleaner was also excellent and washed all our baby bowls, spoons, etc. The location was amazing, right in the centre of the action on Rue St. Denis, we even saw the Royals Wills and Kate drive by out the front of the hotel! I would highly recommend this place for a city getaway.

Room Tip: We stayed in a suite on the top floor and the kitchenette was a little small. I would try and stay o...

My wife and I booked this hotel after seeing some fun reviews on TA and after getting a very good rate for a Sunday night through Expedia. We were extremely impressed with the value of this hotel.

We showed up around 1 PM and our room wasn't ready yet, but they were kind enough to store our bags for us until we returned later. We returned to our room (#303) to find a huge suite, complete with balcony, sitting area with table (set with dishes, wine glasses, and cutlery), a mini kitchen with stove top, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, espresso maker (which makes great espresso!), and sink! Then, separated by a half wall was our safari animal-clad bed and sleeping area. Beyond that was the huge and well-appointed bathroom with big bath tub / shower. The room and hotel in general were so clean, nice, and well decorated. They must have put a lot of money into this place to get it so perfect. We really can't believe the value we got for $142.

In addition to all of that, the location right on St. Denis at the edge of Plateau is perfect. We rode Bixi bikes all weekend and there were two Bixi stops right by the hotel. Heaps of restaurants, shops, and cafes on the street and on all of the side streets. There is an Ethiopian restaurant, Nile Bleu, in the hotel. It looked great, but we didn't get a chance to eat there unfortunately.

This is only the third hotel we have stayed in in Montreal, but we know that there is nowhere else we will ever stay. So great in every aspect! Don't be intimidated by the safari theme and leopard sheets. Embrace it and have fun!

The best about this hotel is the location, right between the Latin Quarter and the Plateau Mont Royale. There is an amazing bakery right next to it, absolutely worth trying (Mamie Clafoutis). Very safe area with people around 24-7. The bathroom was large, there is a small kitchenette in the room. We didn't have a great view from window but that was fine. We didn't experience any bad noise. The staff was great and attentive, except that sometimes they are very busy. The downstairs restaurant was hopping though we didn't eat there.

My wife and I took a last minute trip to Montreal and didn't find a hotel till the night of our trip. Calling around we found that Hotel Kutuma had vacancy for Friday and Saturday night. We weren't expecting much since it was so last minute, but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was large with a full kitchen and the bathroom contained a whirlpool tub. The location allowed us to walk down St. Denis and see all of the interesting restaurants and bars. One interesting aspect was that our car was parked off-site and had to be retrieved when we wanted it. This was not that big of a deal except that they picked up the wrong car and we were watching from our window. Once we went down to find out what was taking so long to get our car the error was discovered and our car was promptly retrieved. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel, but like another poster couldn't get the coffee machine to work either.

My husband and I stayed in room 303 for two days and we both loved it!
In a nutshell: staff during check in at check out VERY friendly, comfortable bed and cushions, lovely bathroom (with candles next to the bathtub should you wish to have a romantic bath), fridge, microwave, kettle, espresso AND separate coffee maker (coffee powder, tea and espresso capsules provided), cutlery, crockery, small dining area with low table and chairs, nice TV.
As another reviewer said: Yes, you can here the people in the room above walking, but it is really not that loud and it certainly did not disturb our sleep. In general we found the room actually very quiet.
Another reviewer complained about the room being dark - ?? - open the blinds and turn on the lights for heaven's sake! We thought the lighting system in the room was amazing - with dimmers to adjust to your every mood.
If my husband had a complaint, then it was about the towels - he would have liked proper large sized bath towels. In his mind bigger towels would make this hotel the best he has ever been to (in my mind the Hilton at Canary Wharf, London is maybe a bit better)
PS: there is an Ethopian restaurant at the bottom of the hotel - we didn't try this one, but have had Ethopian food twice before (both other restaurants also called Blue Nile;-) and it was really good.
