Description: At Restaurant Le Bourlingueur, fish and seafood are among the highlights of this fine eatery, with poached salmon, the house specialty, occupying the place of honour. A visit to this charming establishment in Old Montreal will also "net" a gracious ambiance and a mouthwatering table d'hôte. For those who prefer non-seafood delicacies, other specialties are also available.

We had a very short time to explore old Montreal with our two sons. I wanted to find somewhere for lunch that was a truly french casual dining experience while also being affordable.

Myself, my wife and our two sons (12, 15) both greatly enjoyed the food (nothing amazing, but very tasty) and the atmosphere.

Our servers were delightful. They gracious flipped back and forth between english and french to accommodate my mangled attempt at speaking french.

We sat at the corner table as you walk in to the left. Excellent people watching location.

The food, atmosphere, location and service make this small restaurant a winner for a true Old Montreal dining experience.

We would happily return.

We ordered wine but the waitress forgot it and we had to ask for our wine. Then she brought an opened bottle. The customer at the next table had a wine cooler but we didn't get one even though we had white wine. We had to ask for it. The food was quite poor. We ordered coffees and dessert, the coffees came first and we had finished them by the time the desserts arrived. We had chosen a Quebec sugar pie with ice cream but the pie arrived without ice cream. The waitress said the ice cream wasn't included even though the name of the dish was sugar pie with ice cream on the menu. Then she agreed to bring us ice cream anyway. The ice cream was disgusting, like it had been half melted and put back in the freezer. I couldn't eat it. That was the worst restaurant experience for a long time, I learned that while travelling you should always check the reviews and not just go to any restaurant. Maybe they think it doesn't matter how they treat tourists, there will always be new ones.

Rue St. Paul is one of Old Montreal's tourist magnets, so visitors have many dining options. We ate at Le Bourlingueur on a recent Friday evening and found it a charming place with good food and excellent service. The menu is mostly a la carte, but for an extra few dollars you can get salad and dessert along with the main course. The decor is basically that of a traditional French bistro, which may be the reason that a scene from a movie set in the 1950s was filmed at Le Bourlingueur the week before our visit.

They offer 3 course meals at great prices, as well as a la carte. Staff are friendly and speedy and the decor is welcoming. Their wine list is also affordable. I had a delicious 2 course meal with a glass of wine for under $30 before taxes. Well done.

It was ok. Nothing to write home about or rave over.

The food choices are few and the portions are small for the price. With that said the waiter was pleasant, the food came quickly and it was hot. The setting was intimate but the bathrooms were awful.

The best part of my meal was the sugar pie that I had for dessert.
