We were looking for a place for lunch with outdoor dining after visiting St Joseph's Oratory and came across this place. Both my wife and I ordered quiche. They gave large portions with a generous amount of salad alongside. It was one of the best quiche we have had. It was light, fluffy and tasty. The salad was excellent as well. One criticism would be the limited choices for beer and wine. The staff was friendly and attentive. We finished with a eclair each. We couldn't compare them to the past as previous reviewers did but I would say they were quite good.

When I was a kid growing up in Montreal, Duc de Lorraine was a very special treat! The croissants used to be the best in town and everything else was simply scrumptious! So one can imagine how disappointed I was to find truly mediocre baked goods. We stopped for pastry and coffee in the outdoor seating area and took away some baked goods for later. It was almost impossible to have our order taken and to be served though there seemed to be plenty of staff hanging around mid-afternoon. The coffee was ok but the pastry seemed to be two days old. Despite its very appealing appearance, the texture was not fresh and the flavours were bland. The take away goods weren't much better. Even though the croissants came on a tray from the kitchen so I presume were fresh, the flavour and texture were lacking. I think that whoever now owns Duc de Lorraine is skimping on the butter that is necessary for extraordinary pastry.... This was supposed to be a delicious trip down memory lane but I will never stop here again. This former Montreal landmark has lost it's touch and is simply not worth it!

We are very sorry about your bad experience. We promise that we use only the freshest products in our pastries and our the amount of butter used was not reduced one bit, we still make them using the original recipe from 60 years ago! You simply have to come back and give it a try :)

First time I have had a lunch here ans I found the selection good, the food tasty and well made and the glass of Sangria fun. Well worth the cost for a fun and relaxing treat.

Went to lunch there at noon with two friends. NO MENUS AT THE DOOR, but as I go there occasionally, I trusted the food would be reasonably priced. No menu was available. However, I was very courteously served by very affable waiters who explained the menu BUT GAVE NO PRICES. They offered several soups, then main courses, then deserts. THE FINAL BILL FOR A SIMPLE LUNCH CAME TO OVER $40.00. OUTRAGEOUS. Good meal, nothing outstanding, but a TOTAL RIP-OFF.

a recent Sunday afternoon visit for a coffee and pastry was a disappointment for a place that was one time a Montreal landmark.
Place was not full , but had a MacDonald's like atmosphere with screaming kids and more staff doing nothing than customers .
Coffee and pastry took 10 min. to be brought to table and waiter asked if we " made a decision" as to what sort of bottled water we are ordering and showed his disappointment when we said none as he made us feel it was almost mandatory to do so.
for a placed that was over staffed we expected it to be a lot cleaner that it was .
