“Quiet and cozy (but cold!)”
Reviewed 30 July 2011

Firstly, Quebec City is real romantic. Staying in a European style hotel just adds to that. From the steep staircases (no elevator) to the cute, small furniture and clean little shower, it is truly a European experience. The manager and main hotel operations are about two blocks away, so if you're locked out or need any kind of assistance, go for a jog over there. Our one gripe was that it wasn't very hot outside, but the air conditioner in our room was always on high and we weren't able to control it, so it was freezing cold inside the tiny room all the time. When I called to get someone to come over and fix it, they said they would and then no one showed up for hours. I had to call again. Someone finally came and said, "Is it really bothering you?" Yeah, it's really bothering us. Geez. They didn't fix it, but we ended up covering it with a towel and a pillow, which made it tolerable.
The breakfast that you get for a coupon is next door. It's pretty limited, but better than nothing.

Very complicated check in, must go to Hotel Acadia all one way streets and then truck back with baggage to your hotel and then navigate small hallways to find your room. Walls are so thin that at 0100 am could hear the couple in the next room making whoopi, just as if they were in the bed next to you. The air conditioning worked very well, either the cold air was directed right on to you in bed or it became too hot. All they need here is a reflector to deflect air away from the bed. Also it seems that the water pipes made noise until early hours of the morning before it finally stopped.

Dear guest, the building of the hotel Louisbourg was built in the early 1800's. That is why the configuration of the hotel is different from more standard hotels. In fact, the vast majority of our guests love the fact that the historic ambiance of the hotel has been preserved. We try to communicate as clearly as possible that check-in has to be made at Hotel Acadia, a few steps away from hotel Louisbourg. Thank you for your comment, we wish to see you again on your next visit in Quebec City.

Though the room I received was not the one room suite described by the hotel.com agent, it still captured the old city charm, with reasonable facilities. The queen sized bed was great, though the fold out couch provided an historic experience. NO BED BUGS! Very patient staff, great location.

Dear guest, thank you for your comment about our hotel. We are happy that you enjoyed the historic atmosphere of our hotel. The check-in situation at hotel Louisbourg is particular, since we centralize the reception at the sister hotel Acadia, located few steps away, on Ste-Ursule street. The access at Hotel Acadia is easier. Our valet service can take care of the luggage and car after your arrival. Again, thank you for your comment, we will be very happy to welcome you again on your next visit in Quebec City.

Though we had quite a small room, the staff made up for it immensely. Could not have been more helpful or friendly. Just made our trip to Quebec even more memorable!!

Room Tip: check the size of the room before booking.

We were so pleased with our choice to stay at Hotel Louisbourg for 4 nights in early May 2011. On-line booking was straight-forward and reasonable and we ended up getting exactly what we wanted. We arrived late in the evening in very rainy weather, so finding a welcoming staff and a quaint and cozy room (with extra umbrella in closet) was perfect to celebrate our anniversary that night. We were in Quebec City for the first time for a conference.

During our stay at this hotel, we had a real feel for the historic nature of this precious city being amidst the old part. We were easily able to walk over to the conference hotel, tour the city and check out a number of great restaurants, pubs, shops and sites. We started our day with a hot and tasty breakfast at the restaruant associated with the hotel. All staff was warm and friendly!

Many thanks to all who made this a trip of a life-time. I have been highly recommending your place to family and friends. Regards, Katie

Spent 3 days in Hotel Louisbourg at the beginning of May'11. Quebec city is a fantastic little city with lots of history and loads to see and do.
The hotel is located in the old town inside the city walls and for that reason its a good spot to base yourself.
The hotel was good value but there were some flaws. The reception for the hotel is located around the corner in its sister hotel, Hotel Astra(i think). Thankfully i knew from other reviews that you check in there so I didnt have any problems.
The security in Louisbourg did not seem to be the best. Without any reception I got the feeling that anyone could be walking around the building. The walls between the rooms were very thins so you heard every other guest getting up in the morning and tv's on!

On the positive side, the room was quirky and comfortable. It was in a perfect location for seeing the city and even with the few issues with the hotel, Quebec itself made up for it.

Dear guest, thank you for your comment about our hotel. As mentioned is other reviews, we centralize the check-in at the Hotel Acadia's front desk to facilitate the operations, as this hotel has a docking station. Than, our valet can take care of the car and luggage to help you get to hotel Louisbourg just around the corner. Thank you again for your comment, we are looking forward to welcome you again on your next visit in Quebec City.

Our visit was in February, during the time when the hotel had a special off season reduced price, so for the price, we enjoyed a very quaint room in the heart of Quebec City. Our friends stayed at the Chateau and ended up paying more than double for a room almost the same size as ours (and theirs was without breakfast!)

Good points about this hotel:
Breakfast in the restaurant next door was awesome. They now provide a full buffet breakfast that included crepes (with real maple syrup), eggs, sausages, yogurt and fruit, cereal, toast and beverages. It is no longer just a coupon or continental breakfast. The restaurant next door offers the breakfast to non-hotel customers at a cost of $10.00 each, so basically you save $20.00 by staying at this hotel.
Our room was small (but that’s what you expect in Old Quebec) but the exposed stone wall and non-working old fireplace added character . The shower pressure was awesome although the shower was small. The hotel provided all the other services you might expect, valet parking (for a fee), in room coffee maker, wine glasses, iron, hair dryer, and the front desk people were very helpful in providing us directions and maps to where we want to go.
One major problem with our room: the lighting. At night, with all the lamps and lights on, the room was so dim that you could not see inside your suitcase, purse, etc. Someone needs to put up some track lighting or pot lights or something. But that would be the only really negative thing we would have to say about this hotel.
