“Great location and clean”
Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed one night at this hotel. Since we had read some reviews before, we noted that we had to go to another hotel to check in first. But it would be helpful of the hotel provide detail information on email/written confirmation (we looked up details thru iPad while we were driving into the city. Without that, it would be quite a hassel!). Staffs were friendly and valet were helpful. The room was clean and cozy. It was literally five minutes walk from Chateau Frontenac and all other nearby restaurants. We were lucky that our room was on the second floor, so not a lot of stairs climbing.

Where do I begin? I read the reservation carefully knowing I had to check in at Hotel Acadia, literally right around the corner. The hotel falls on one of the most gorgeous streets in Old Quebec and is so accessible to everything. Everything is within walking distance. The staff was friendly and the room was ready to go when we got there. We stayed for four days and housekeeping was never left undone. The room was a perfect size for a couple. We had the horse drawn carriage added to our reservation and they picked us up right infront of Hotel Acadia no worrying about trying to find them! We were closer to the back therefore we barely heard any noise at all. The facilities were accessible and the complimentary breakfast was in the restaurant next door which was easy to get to. I would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat!

We arrived in late afternoon. There is no reception at the hotel and the check in is done at another hotel of the group located very near (2 minutes walking).
We were very happy with the position: in the heart of old Quebec.
We had the breakfast (included in the price) at the restaurant located next door. Sometimes, you have to wait to be seated. The breakfast is buffet and even though not exceptional is not bad.
Concerning the room the main issue is that is really small with no place to arrange the suitcases and difficult to move in two at the same time. Moreover, the sink is in the bed room and not in the toilet.
Another issue was that there was a hole in the floor with a lot of air coming up. We arranged this by putting there a pillow.
For the category of the hotel these issues should not exist.
I booked the hotel directly on the hotel site because contrary to almost all other hotel reservations it offered the best price.
In the corridor of the hotel is available a PC with internet connexion which I found almost everytime free and so I took advantage of internet (and it was a good connexion too!)
The price we paid can be considerate just adequate (we reserved months in advance) because of the above issues. Anyway, the location is fantastic and as you are here to visit more than for staying at the hotel is a good thing.

I would reccommend to my friends,

you have to check in around the corner at a different hotel.
room is verrrry small, but nice and clean
location is amazing for old quebec
the room was dead silent which was nice
breakfast included at the hotel beside was really good
the staff there were very happy
everything is within walking distance, and there is an ecolobus which goes around to everywhere for only 1$

We arrived very late one night and were not aware that we had to check in around the corner; that made for a confusing few minutes but the reception desk was kind and efficient. There was also some confusion over the parking; the valet lot was full and so we had to park in a garage a short walk away. They gave me a ticket to get in and out but we ended up having to pay the garage ourselves, but when I checked out the hotel refunded my parking fees.

The room itself was cozy and clean, with a stone wall and a view of rooftops. The location is great, right in the old part of Quebec City, with many shops and restaurants nearby. Quebec City is so beautiful it almost doesn't even seem real!

We visited in August as did Hurricane Irene. The hotel is one of four owned by Hotels Nouvelles-France. Facilities are shared between hotels (e.g Spa at nearby Acadia), but one quirky element means we had to check in at Acadia Hotel rather than Louisbourg. No problem as valet parking was provided and we were forewarned.

There was some ambiguity whether we had booked rooms inclusive of breakfast. The confusion was genuine on both sides and the manager suggested a compromise of free breakfast for half our stay which I was happy to agree to.

The building is old and the layout has been much altered to accommodate the rooms. Both ours had elements of the traditional (stone walls etc) and small bathrooms with tiny showers - but overall we were very happy with the room size, furnishings and comfort. Breakfast was served in an adjoining building which morphed back into a restaurant at lunchtimes and in the evening. Breakfast food was fine though a bit limited in variety (so convenient that we only had free breakfast for half our stay!)

The location of the building is superb, 3 minute stroll from Chateau Frontenac and surrounded by restaurants of various quality.

So what were the niggles? Housekeeping was patchy at best. Sometimes supplies were renewed sometimes not, sometimes trash was cleared sometimes not. On one occasion nothing was done to one of our rooms at all! When we mentioned the shortfalls we received genuine apologies but there was little difference in the standard afterwards. Another small niggle was that when we asked for our car at a particular time from valet parking, it didn't arrive and necessitated a walk to the Hotel Acadia (the home of valet parking) where again apologies were profuse. (A receptionist got the car herself!)

Did the positives outweigh the negatives? Certainly. But I would still consider alternatives when next in Quebec City.

Room Tip: Best rooms are probably get smaller as you go up a floor. We had two rooms one on 2nd floor which wa...

Firstly, Quebec City is real romantic. Staying in a European style hotel just adds to that. From the steep staircases (no elevator) to the cute, small furniture and clean little shower, it is truly a European experience. The manager and main hotel operations are about two blocks away, so if you're locked out or need any kind of assistance, go for a jog over there. Our one gripe was that it wasn't very hot outside, but the air conditioner in our room was always on high and we weren't able to control it, so it was freezing cold inside the tiny room all the time. When I called to get someone to come over and fix it, they said they would and then no one showed up for hours. I had to call again. Someone finally came and said, "Is it really bothering you?" Yeah, it's really bothering us. Geez. They didn't fix it, but we ended up covering it with a towel and a pillow, which made it tolerable.
The breakfast that you get for a coupon is next door. It's pretty limited, but better than nothing.
