“Great first trip to Quebec City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

We booked the Hotel Louisbourg through a Travelzoo special in January. Neither of us had been to Quebec City before and it was on our list of places to visit. We booked for $79/night and included parking and breakfast. From check in to check out we had great service. All hotel employees we had contact with were helpful and professional. We checked in at the Hotel Acadia and then valet took our car and us to the back parking lot at the Hotel Louisbourg. Helped to bring out luggage to our room. We weren't sure whether there were mini-fridges in the rooms so we had brought our electric cooler with us - not necessary. When we had booked our trip, in the extra comments section I had asked whether mini-fridge in room but hadn't heard back however when we got to our room a mini-fridge had been put in our room. So I am thinking that if you want a mini-fridge you just have to ask - not sure if there is an extra cost during the high tourist season though. After reading other reviews I guess also a daily cost for parking also during high season. Our room was small but very comfortable - had a window overlooking the back lot - what we could see beyond the snow. Bed was comfortable. Would have liked to been able to adjust room temperature ourselves as I found warm at night since radiator next to my side of bed. A couple of the days we opened the window in our room to cool it off. Bathroom small but functional. Even though they had the note to hang towels up if new not needed, we had fresh towels left everyday. Only one morning (the busiest of the four mornings we were there) did we have issues with the water - cold then hot, etc. Other mornings no problem with water temperature. The included American breakfast buffet was an added bonus. Same items every morning. Dry cereals, toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, hash browns and crepe. Plus yogurt, fruit salad, cheese and juice. Coffee and black and green tea. Only one morning the eggs were not good - I believe they are the processed dry product that ?water is added to - however when they are finished they should be stirred up and they get the scrambled egg look. This one morning we figure they forgot that step so eggs had a fluffy consistency and were odd when you ate them, almost a smooth texture. Food fairly bland for the most part but that is usual for this type of breakfast buffet. Good service every morning by the servers. The location of the hotel is excellent. Right on one of the main streets going into the old city. Close to everything. We parked the car on arrival and didn't use again until we left as we walked everywhere. We had a great stay at the Hotel Louisbourg and wouldn't hesitate to stay again or recommend.

Room Tip: No elevator so lots of stairs. If stairs are an issue, you should request a lower floor.

In the heart of Old-Quebec, we could leave the 'hotel' and stroll to everything we wanted to see. We stayed for three nights on the top floor facing the street. You can hear the horse-drawn carriages go by and it was like taking a step back in time. This is more of a bed-and-breakfast style house with rooms than a hotel, but it had everything we needed. Small, comfortable, quiet and clean with exposed stone wall, you will have the basics. It is not modern or spacious; there isn't a bar fridge and I'm not certain you have the ability to adjust the heat. The price is right due to the convenient location only. You check-in around the corner at the Acadia and bring your luggage to the hotel as the valet parks your car. An experience unlike any other I've had and I would gladly stay there again.

Beautiful historical building in Old Quebec. Everything was a short walk away. We stayed for three nights and never bothered to retrieve our car until check-out. Everyone was very helpful at check-in. Valet service was a life-saver given the narrow streets, and they'll carry your bags for you. What more could you ask?

Fabulous location in Old Quebec, close to main visitor sites and great restaurants. Rooms clean, quiet and compact, not there to stay in a spacious modern room. Good wifi and very friendly staff especially Louise who was very helpful. Would stay there again.

Stayed 2 nights, 2 double beds, 3rd floor facing the side. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. We loved the exposed stone wall. Bathroom was very large, but I agree with other postings that the plumbing was average (hot/cold water not consistent in the shower, average water strength). We had breakfast next door, it was average -- nothing exciting, but certainly edible. We found they did replenish most of the food when it ran out.

Location is great. Just a few blocks from the Chateau (same street).

If I had any disappointments, they were the following: (1) towels were quite thin, I expected a slightly better quality from this level of hotel (2) could not alter the temperature in our room (A/C was on, we could not turn down). Neither of these things were enough to ruin our stay.

We stayed in an attic room (walk-up 3 floors). Very comfortable room but small; this is one of those occasions when I would highly recommend to management that they replace TVs with flat-screens simply because of the valuable real estate the TVs occupy (what good is wi-fi if you have no place to put the computer?). The hotel has an excellent location in the upper town, easy walking to everything.

Two idiosyncrasies: 1) check-in/out desk is at a nearby hotel around the corner and a block away which appears to operate these as a unit, and 2) parking consists of leaving your car on the highly trafficked one-way cobblestone rue St. Louis with the 4-way flashers on while you unload your bags, then calling the reception to send over a driver who takes your key and spirits the car away to one of the many secret places they have around the neighborhood (so don't even think of returning to your car to fetch something, or doing an excursion during your stay). The valet service is included in the daily parking fee.

I have to mark this hotel "average" rather than "very good" because of an unfortunate incident our last night, when someone tried to enter our room as we slept. That "someone" was two unfortunate guests who had gone through the check-in I described above ... and assigned our room! Not only was it disturbing for us, we feel sorry for the poor couple who had to lug their bags down the 3 flights of stairs to repeat the process.

We stayed here for three nights in September. Very good and central location, handy for all of the main sights. Our room was in the attic - we were prepared for the lack of lift, though the steep stairs were no fun with the suitcases and it was only when we were heading out after settling in that we saw the small sign at the information desk (no reception in the hotel) saying baggage handling was available. It might have made more sense for it to be offered when we checked in round the corner (they missed a trick there). The room was quiet, a good size with two double beds - I liked the exposed stone wall, the beds were comfy and the decor was fine. The bathroom was not the most attractive I've seen, in fact the plastic pod shower seemed not to be in keeping with the rest of the place, but everything worked fine. The only thing I didn't like was that the room was very cold and there was no way of adjusting the a/c, so we ended up wrapping up warm and going to bed very early!
