My college-age daughter and I just returned from Quebec City, and our stay at the Castel d'Amerique Francaise was superb. Yolanda is a charming woman--a wonderful hostess and cook. Arrangements are organized (keys and instructions waiting upon arrival, for example), and the house really feels like a home. The room was beautiful with a lovely terrace, the breakfasts were excellent, and the coffee equally good. We spent four nights, and everyone we spoke to was as pleased as we were with the accommodations.

We just spent 5 great nights at Castel d'Amerique Francaise. You just can't beat this location within walking distance to everything you want to see in Old Quebec. The house was wonderful with so much history and ambience. We spent many an evening end our day enjoying the terrace. Our host Yolande was equally wonderful and breakfasts were superb...we will be back!

Wonderful experience
We had superb and most pleasant experience staying in this B&B in July-2013. Best location – heart of old Quebec City and all fantastic attractions. Everything is in walking distance. Nice room in a century old historic building. We are a family of 3 – mom, dad and 6 years old. Our host Natalie is very warm and welcoming to her guests. She took care of us like a family member, served delicious breakfast every morning, asked at least twice a day, if we need anything else. We can’t ask anything more. We had the best experience ever. I will go back to this B&B whenever I go to Quebec City. Our son can’t stop telling the stories of Quebec City vacation and the stay in the B&B. Thank you Natalie.

My wife and I just recently spent 3 nights at the Castel d'Amerique Francaise (which for some reason is also listed separately as the "Castel du Monde" on TA) over the New Year holiday. What a wonderful experience it was, despite the frigid weather and some initial hiccups.

When we arrived, Jolanta (the owner) informed us that the room she had initially reserved for us had been damaged by a burst pipe, and that she was moving us to another room in an annex separate from the main building. It was a nice big room, except the room temperature was freezing (12 degrees Celsius, or 53 Fahrenheit for our American friends), and no amount of tampering with the heater control could increase the heat. After toughing it out for the afternoon, I told Jolanta that we could not risk catching a cold sleeping in such temperature and an alternative would have to be found.

Just to provide a bit more background to the story, the Castel has 8 rooms and the burst pipe had damaged the ceiling of 3 rooms. This left 5 rooms, all of which were occupied during our first night there. To her credit, Jolanta did some quick thinking and came up with a solution. She went to the least damaged of the 3 damaged rooms, rolled up her sleeves and did an amazing job of cleaning it up to accommodate us for one night (with the intention of moving us to an undamaged room the day after once other guests have checked out). I don't know how she did it by herself. Half of the ceiling was exposed due to water damage, the furniture was dusty and had been pushed onto one side, the curtains had all been removed, a huge wall-to-wall ceiling-to-floor plastic sheet separated the damaged half of the room from the other half, and a gigantic industrial dehumidifier was planted in the middle of the floor. Once Jolanta was done with it, the room was back to normal with the exception of the half-exposed ceiling. Thanks to this, we were able to have a warm comfortable first night and, as promised, were moved to an undamaged room for the rest of our stay.

Jolanta's hospitality did not end there. She made us feel welcome and at home with her warmth and generosity. As for the establishment itself, the entire premise is beautifully decorated with real antiques. All the rooms are huge and each one is individually decorated with a different motif. The breakfast room is cosy and serves also as a seating area where guests can have tea, coffee and cookies (to the sound of classical music) at any time during the day or night. Breakfast is very good, with tea, coffee, fresh fruit juices, all kinds of cereals and breads and jams, fruits, a selection of cold cuts and cheeses, boiled eggs, deviled eggs, French toasts and a different hot dish each day.

The B&B is perfectly located on a quiet street, and is yet within easy walking distance (in more clement weather!) to all attractions in Vieux Quebec.

The Castel is a little gem and we will definitely come back!

We visited Quebec City for the first time in October. From the moment we arrived we were made most welcome at this charming B & B. We loved the location as we could walk everywhere and it was delightful to be within the walls of the old city. We felt like we were in Europe! We really enjoyed the spectacular views from the B & B's terrace (Chateau Frontenac and Old Quebec - so beautiful and relaxing). The breakfast each morning included a hot entree, variety of breads, fruits and cereals, cheese, ham, juice, tea and plenty of coffee. The owners Jolanta and Natalie were always very helpful and attentive to their guests and it was nice to meet and talk to other travellers each morning at breakfast. We hope to visit Quebec City again and would definitely recommend the Castel d'Amerique Francaise! Thanks for a wonderful holiday!

An absolutely wonderful experience. My girlfriend and I arrived tired from our journey from the U.S., but immediately were revived and fell in love with this B & B. Our room had a private balcony, in addition to the larger public one which was adjacent - both of which had magnificent views. Jolanta was an extremely gracious hostess, providing excellent food each morning to fuel up for the day's walking activities around the Old City and environs. We never set foot in an automobile from the time we arrived by bus from Montreal to the time we left 5 x days later by the same conveyance. A hint to first-time visitors: due to the lack of elevators mentioned in previous reviews and the extremely narrow staircase, if one is traveling with large suitcases, it is far easier to take them up the outside stairwells intersecting from the ground floor to the various levels of balconies (and reciprocally when leaving). We will definitely be back to Quebec City and the Castel d/Amerique Francaise - thank you for a great visit! Jeremy Shoop & Jennifer Haines

I stayed in this wonderful B&B for five nights in September while at a conference. The hostess/owner was absolutely lovely and she made great food for breakfast.

The decor was quite eclectic. The house was full of antiques and modern painting. Much better than a boring hotel.

Will return another time to share this experience with my husband!

Room Tip: I stayed in the Richelieu room on the second floor. It was large and very comfortable.
