Owner description: These 275-foot falls on the Montmorency River tower higher than even the legendary Niagara Falls. The 2013 season promises to be exhilarating for people who will visit Parc de la Chute-Montmorency – Montmorency Falls, the second most visited site of the provincial capital after Old Quebec. The highlight of all the new summer activities is certainly the opening of two via ferrata routes built in the Boischatel fault near the waterfalls. Via ferrata – this is italien for “iron roads”, is an activity accessible to everyone over 12 years old that combines hiking and rock climbing. The two paths are built on the rockface on the eastern side of the waterfall. The less adventurous will also be able to get stunning views of the 83-meter high waterfall aboard the cable car which now runs with sparkling new cabins. History buffs will be glad to know that guided tours are now offered each weekend in the company of Sir Frederick Haldimand, who served as Governor of Quebec from 1778 to 1786 and Mathilde Robin, best known as the Lady in White, who lost her fiancé during the Montmorency Battle in 1759. Guided tours are offered in French or English until Labour Day weekend.

Montmorency Falls is very pretty but quite a challenge to see in the cold rain. This is a trip for a warm, sunny day. Few ventured out of the building to get a closer view of the falls.
Nice gift shop.

Beautiful during the winter months. The waterfalls does not freeze over. I did not had the opportunity to see it during the night but apparently at night lights shines on the snow capped hill with the waterfall.

We booked the two-day tour bus ticket, which includes the ride to Montmorency Falls. Take the gondola to the top, but only purchase the one-way ticket. The walk down is very doable. Walk up to the suspension bridge that crosses the falls. It is a stunning view from the top!

“Not worth the long bus trip in tourist season”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

These falls are lovely, but they were hard to get to, hard to access and see properly, and not really worth wasting half a day on. We accessed the falls from above, which is cool but doesn't give you a proper view. You have to descend the rickety staircase all the way to the bottom to get a decent view, and on a hot, sticky day with tons of tourists, this is a hard sell, especially for someone who is afraid of heights.

If you do go, don't go on a day when the weather is bad or you'll be miserable We took the bus, which took forever. There is no place to buy a bus ticket when you get there, so make sure to have a return ticket or proper change. There are no bathrooms, only nasty port-a-potties, which are really quite miserable in the July heat. The humidity around the falls makes the situation worse. I'm sure the falls can be an enjoyable experience if you go on a lovely day and plan to stay and picnic with a group. But if all you're going out there for is to see the falls, it's not really worth it.

We visited the falls in October, so they were less "effusive" than they are in the spring, but still worth going to see. They're higher than Niagara, but not as wide. your visit will be quick: take your picture and move on.
