$75 million in renovations and it shows. This hotel is to die for. Excellent food, superior atmosphere in the public rooms and rooms that reflect the best of Quebec.
This hotel is the premier location for Quebec and the premier in Quebec.

We stayed for three days. We were pleasantly surprised at how friendly and quaint Quebec City was! I felt like I was in Europe. The Chateau Frontenac was definitely the right choice. The location was perfect! It was exactly what I was looking for! Super nice Hotel.

We were overwhelmed at the splendour of this hotel and pre-booked a deluxe room via the travel agent to stay for four nights from 18 to 22 June 2014.

WORST DECISION. We were given a small room on the sixth floor which was far from deluxe. We spoke to Rodolfo on Reception the first day about our disappointment with the room who after much deliberation agreed to move us on the second day to a room on the third floor, which overlooked a courtyard. We were pleased with the room as it was significantly larger with a king size bed. Unfortunately during the early hours of the morning ie 3.30 am a lorry arrived with supplies for the hotel, which disturbed us until 5.30 am. We did not complain as thought it was a one off delivery. On the next night at 1.30 am we were disturbed with clearing up from a party and the lorry returned at around 3.30 am for deliveries to the hotel. We did not complain about this, even though again it disturbed our sleep.

However during the evening of our fourth night from 9.00 pm we were disturbed by a loud engine pump noise, we contacted reception and we were advised there was a leak in the basement and it was being pumped out. We contacted them around four times about this because the noise was unbearable and preventing any sleep, as had been going on into the early hours without a break. At 12.45 am we were advised they did not know when the pumping would stop and we could move to another room. We declined because it was too late. We therefore decided to turn on the air conditioning to drown out the noise of the pump.

We did speak to Rodolfo who agreed to compensate us with free wifi, two items taken from the mini bar and a free breakfast on the last morning. We were advised that as this was a pre-booked stay they could not compensate us for the room.

We also went to the Sams Restaurant one evening for a small meal of fish and chips and a dessert which took most of the evening to be served to us. The waitress did apologise for the slow service so even she was concerned at the delay.

We will not be returning to this hotel anytime in the near or distant future. However we would recommend Quebec City as a place to visit And for an excellent breakfast and evening meal suggest Bistro 1640 which was close to the hotel.

Room Tip: Do not chose a room overlooking the courtyard

My husband and I decided to spend our 20th anniversary in Old Quebec City. My husband recommended that we stay at the Chateau Frontenac. His suggestion proved to be a wise choice, as this Fairmount property has an exceptional staff (Mike and I opted to select a Gold Club room).

The room we stayed in for four nights had a beautiful view of the St. Lawrence River. Note: not only did we enjoy a morning breakfast daily, we also enjoyed very personal service with regards to suggests for restaurants and directions to various attractions.

The room was well appointed and very clean.

To wrap-up my review, my husband and I will choose to stay here during our next visit to Old Quebec City. We both experienced a joyful holiday.

Room Tip: If your budget allows, select a Gold Club Level room.

Long a symbol of its city, a nearly completed renovation has managed to freshen up the place without undermining its traditions. The copper-clad roof looks like copper instead of the familiar green patina; a couple of decades of weathering should take care of that. The lobby is bluer than it was, but remains elegant and timeless. The century-old Chateau was never allowed to turn truly dowdy, but visitors still had to accept some compromises in exchange for the privilege of overnighting in a legend. No more. The TVs are flat-screen, the bathrooms are today, the dining rooms no longer feel like great-grandmama's. Ten years ago, the place, arguably, was overpriced; today, the pricing fits the product,

My wife and I love Chateau Frontenac, we've stayed twice now in the last few years. Our first experience was exceptional, and the second was just as wonderful. As a guest, I never once discovered any imperfections, nothing bothered me, never had a bad experience due to the hotel or staff, or anything like that. Therefore in my mind that defines a perfect stay and a perfect establishment!

Room Tip: Chateau Frontenac often offers deals throughout the year on suites and river-view rooms, but book fa...

We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and this last visit may have been our last. We are members of Fairmont President's Club and always stay at Fairmonts on the Gold Club Level whenever there is one available in the city we are visiting, so this was definitely not our first experience. We arrived at the hotel at check-in time to find no rooms available? This was rectified after voicing our disappointment. Snack foods during the day and evening are none to bare. Most Gold Floors have at least a bowl of pretzels, chips or cookies, something other than a bowl of apples available. The renovated room was nice, we did love the total blackout window coverings and decor. We found the bathroom small and lacking a tub. You have to go right into the shower to turn the tap on, therefore getting a blast of cold water from the rain shower head, which looks nice but has barely any water pressure, not ideal for trying to rinse shampoo from your hair! There is also only one tiny corner shelf about six inches by two or three inches for all of you and your partner's shower supplies, they need at least two or three more of these. TV reception was awful, very few watchable channels and slow internet frequently as well. We dined at one of the restaurants for lunch and were under impressed with the quality of the food for the price and the service was horrible! We waited 15-20 minutes for the server to even come to our table to offer us drinks, then another 15 to receive our soft drinks. The whole experience of this visit was lacklustre for the price we paid.
