“Great Experience”

Our stay at the Chateau Frontenac was a delightful experience from start to finish. Not a single problem or oversight. The staff even engaged with me in French and made every effort to make us welcome. I visited this Canadian landmark with out-of-country relatives that were very impressed and felt pampered from the start.

The hotel is a grand dame but has no airs of grandiosity which put us immediately at ease . I recommend this site to anyone who wants quiet, comfort and a hint of sophistication. No drunken brawls or loud mouthed guests to make you feel uncomfortable.

Truly a memorable and enjoyable getaway!

Located in the "Old City" surrounded by the walls built centuries ago. The rooms are beautiful, the public areas are spectacular. You can watch the ice move up river when the tide changes, the change is 23 feet.

I was staying at the Chateau Frontenac the evening they had their Grand Re-Opening. I was impressed by the friendly attentive staff even though they were hosting an event for over 600 guests that evening. My room was ready early and I had a most pleasant stay. I enjoyed my view of the river and exploring the old part of Quebec City that surrounded the hotel.

Le Chateau Frontenac is certainly an impressive looking hotel right in the heart of Quebec with an equally impressive lobby and public areas. But when it came to the room we were allocated it was a completely different story. If it is a room with a view you are after be careful what you wish for. Our room had three windows and was a well equipped and spacious suite, albeit the decor and furnishing was a bit shabby, Unfortunately the scaffolding across each window with skips, builders rubbish and materials everywhere in sight was not what we expected in a hotel of this class and price. Indeed we were told workmen may or may not start working immediately outside the room any time between 7 and 9 am which meant for privacy the blinds could not be opened. When we complained we were told the hotel was full and no other room was available, except for a much smaller/less well appointed room,which we rejected. However, we did eventually get offered a similar grade room in the refurbished part of the hotel which we accepted. The furnishings, decor and general ambience of the room was significantly better than our first allocation,but the view was still depressing and shabby.
We did not eat in the restaurant due to a corporate event, but we did have a buffet meal in a function room which was more canteen than Chateau. The food was disappointing and this turned out to be the worst meal we had in any of the five Fairmont hotels we stayed in during our visit to Canada. Breakfast was okay, but it was surprising to be told if you wanted freshly prepared crepes or egg dishes there would be an extra charge.
All in all we felt this hotel trades on its name and location and doesn't seem to think it needs to make much effort beyond slick marketing.
PS Also be aware of the hotel mini bar policy if you attempt to place personal drinks,medications etc. in the mini bar.Charges will likely apply as disturbing the pressure sensors means an automatic charge on your bill and possibly a nasty shock when you come to check out.. .

$75 million in renovations and it shows. This hotel is to die for. Excellent food, superior atmosphere in the public rooms and rooms that reflect the best of Quebec.
This hotel is the premier location for Quebec and the premier in Quebec.

We stayed for three days. We were pleasantly surprised at how friendly and quaint Quebec City was! I felt like I was in Europe. The Chateau Frontenac was definitely the right choice. The location was perfect! It was exactly what I was looking for! Super nice Hotel.

We were overwhelmed at the splendour of this hotel and pre-booked a deluxe room via the travel agent to stay for four nights from 18 to 22 June 2014.

WORST DECISION. We were given a small room on the sixth floor which was far from deluxe. We spoke to Rodolfo on Reception the first day about our disappointment with the room who after much deliberation agreed to move us on the second day to a room on the third floor, which overlooked a courtyard. We were pleased with the room as it was significantly larger with a king size bed. Unfortunately during the early hours of the morning ie 3.30 am a lorry arrived with supplies for the hotel, which disturbed us until 5.30 am. We did not complain as thought it was a one off delivery. On the next night at 1.30 am we were disturbed with clearing up from a party and the lorry returned at around 3.30 am for deliveries to the hotel. We did not complain about this, even though again it disturbed our sleep.

However during the evening of our fourth night from 9.00 pm we were disturbed by a loud engine pump noise, we contacted reception and we were advised there was a leak in the basement and it was being pumped out. We contacted them around four times about this because the noise was unbearable and preventing any sleep, as had been going on into the early hours without a break. At 12.45 am we were advised they did not know when the pumping would stop and we could move to another room. We declined because it was too late. We therefore decided to turn on the air conditioning to drown out the noise of the pump.

We did speak to Rodolfo who agreed to compensate us with free wifi, two items taken from the mini bar and a free breakfast on the last morning. We were advised that as this was a pre-booked stay they could not compensate us for the room.

We also went to the Sams Restaurant one evening for a small meal of fish and chips and a dessert which took most of the evening to be served to us. The waitress did apologise for the slow service so even she was concerned at the delay.

We will not be returning to this hotel anytime in the near or distant future. However we would recommend Quebec City as a place to visit And for an excellent breakfast and evening meal suggest Bistro 1640 which was close to the hotel.

Room Tip: Do not chose a room overlooking the courtyard
