We did a summer trip of Quebec City, Tadoussac (whale watching) and Charlevoix. Our first stop is Le Chateau Frontenac.

The hotel's location is perfect. Right in the center of the old Quebec, and step away from the boardwalk along the river. Everywhere is walking distance. There is so much life and charm and many many good restaurant inside the old Quebec.

The service in the hotel is impeccable, the front desk manager (Julie Martel) did absolutely the best to mend the problem we encountered and made us feel they really cared about our concerns.

The breakfast in the hotel is superb (one of the best among all the Fairmont hotels we stayed), and the dinning room (especially along the window) is gorgeous. We truly enjoyed it.

We stayed in the newly renovated room, very stylish and nice size. We didn't get the river view, but the city view which is very nice too.

The hotel also has a decent sized in door pool, which was enjoyed daily by our daughter. outside on the same level of the pool it is a nice patio with nice lounge chairs.

The hotel is a old building, which has a lot of charms; but it comes with the old building problems, it's the whole package. One that bothered me (might not be much problem for others) is there is very little noise insulation between rooms, I happened to have a noise neighbour.

The other downside of the old and charming hotel is that the bathroom is very small, it's nicely renovated but it's very small.

One note on the room selection, normally when it comes to view from your hotel room window, the higher floor the better. It's not the case here for the city view rooms, when the floor is too high what you see is mainly roof tops.

WiFI in the room is good.

Despite the noise problem, we had a great stay and enjoyed it.

Frontenac is centrally located to old Quebec. Easy walking distance to old town shops, museums, dining, etc No better place to stay for overall Quebec City experience. Many good and varied restaurants are an easy stroll even for us seniors. There are a few other good hotels close by but most would be a distant second choice to this one

My family and I stayed at this hotel in the middle of June 2014 for 1 night and I believe that was right after the renovations were mostly completed. The lobby was incredible and all the staff was very friendly. Our room wasn't ready when we got there so we stored our bags with them and went for lunch. This hotel is close to everything; perfect location! There was 4 of us travelling and my room was upgraded to a wonderful river view and we couldn't have asked for anything more. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the restaurant/bar in the hotel. We just wanted to have a few drinks and I thought it was odd that because we weren't ordering food we couldn't sit out on the patio...which would have been a fantastic view. The service in the bar was painfully slow and the drinks were a tad watered down. Of course, it being a bar in a Fairmont hotel it was quite expensive as well. Other than the bar in the hotel, we had a great stay and I would highly recommend it.

Spent a few days at the newly renovated Chateau Frontenac. Beautifully done, much brighter...However, the rooms are still small, and good luck trying to figure out the shower. No drawers to put clothes in, only a closet to hang up clothes. The staff was friendly and courteous, good room service. No more stores in the basement to shop at, or even a convenient store for snacks and water. They want you to spend money on the minibar, or the vending machines, which aren't on every floor. And now, it's a non smoking building. And good luck trying to figure out the evacuation in case of a fire. You need to be an engineer to figure out the map. Lovely to walk outside and sit on the boardwalk with a Starbucks coffee...and tons of restaurants within walking distance. A double decker bus is a great way to see the old Quebec, or take a horse and carriage ride. We didn't eat in the restaurants at the Chateau, we preferred to eat at the restaurants outdoors, as it was perfect weather. I would recommend the hotel to visitors, it is quite beautiful. But be prepared to spend money. Nothing is cheap.

Room Tip: If you want a really big big room, get ready to spend the money......and make sure you have an engineering degree to figure out the shower.

Dear joyfullnoize,
Thank you for taking time to post a review. We truly appreciate guest feedback as it helps us improve the product and service we offer. We are glad you enjoyed your overall experience. Following the renovations, a convenience store can indeed be found inside the Fairmont Boutique which is located in the main lobby. Our evacuation maps follow building regulations but I will certainly share your feedback with our engineering team. Once again thank you for your feedback and we hope to welcome you again.

Booked through Amex Platinum and was upgraded to a lovely room with a view of the square in front of the hotel, the Laurentine Mountains and the St. Lawrence River. The renovations in the hotel are beautiful. The breakfast buffet each morning was a delight. I could each the croissants all day. I was glad to be there for 5 days as it allowed me to really vary what I ate each morning. The location of the hotel cannot be beat we walked everywhere and could be everywhere in the old city in no time. We were fortunate to be in Quebec during the Fete de Nouvelle France. There were fireworks and a parade and people in period clothing.

I really enjoyed the street performers who perform outside the hotel in the square. I could see them from my room which was a plus.

My criticism is that the public areas are really cannot handle the number of guests and tourists, One afternoon we wanted a drink at the bar. The bar could not accommodate us, Another night when we did get a seat we waited nearly 20 minutes for a drink. They really need to have a guests only bar somewhere in the hotel. It appears as if the ground level restaurants and spaces are still under restoration and when completed that may aid with these problems.

I took others advice and signed up for the Fairmont President Club to get the free wifi

When I visit Quebec again I would stay there again.

Room Tip: A room with the view of the square is great so that you can see the street performers
