Great location with wonderful exhibits and a restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking the Plains of Abraham and the sea way . Amazingly good food and service at very reasonable prices.

“Great museum, absolute worth visiting”
Reviewed 16 July 2014 via mobile

This museum is underrated in the guide books, although a bit out of the way, it is a must see for art lovers while in Québec city. Modern and contemporary art in a lovely building. Go see it!

“Excellent collection”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

My daughter (an art major) and I enjoyed a half day here. The contemporary collection here is lovely and worth the visit. One half of the museum is housed in a building that used to be the jail for Quebec. There are some cells still intact to see how prisoners lived.

“Fascinating Diversity”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

This large museum is located in beautiful Parc des Champs-de-Bataille, otherwise known as Battlefields Park or the Plains of Abraham. The park runs along the edge of the ridge upon which Quebec was built and there are views all along of the lower land. The Restaurant de Musee has both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace, where we sat and enjoyed a delicious light lunch while looking out over the park and the view on a lovely sunny day.
The museum itself rambles between a modern wing and an large older building that includes cells used in the old city jail. Inside there are very good exhibits on Canadian art, which awakened me to the works of some of their outstanding artists, including Riopelle, Lyman, Morrice, Leduc and Lemieux. The work of these artists is linked to a special exhibit on Matisse, illustrating how they were connected through their painting styles and focus.
This a well organized and curated museum. I sometimes get tired going through all the exhibits in a big museum, but here they are so well displayed and arranged that I just went with the flow and enjoyed every minute.
