“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 30 May 2013

We stayed a few weeks ago and I have the following feedback to share -

It feels like a luxury, boutique hotel transplanted from Europe but with much bigger rooms, better service and more modern amenities.

The only con -

Guys you have a great hotel - please put some additional lights in your rooms to brighten the space especially since you already have dark themed interiors in your rooms including a black carpet. My family and I felt very dull, dark while staying there in an otherwise great hotel room.

Now the pros -

- Nice modern, luxury boutique hotel
- Very enjoyable breakfast - lots of options - juice, yogurt, cereals, croissants, toasts, fresh fruits, cakes, hot cappucino, tea, hot chocolate and many other options including gluten free
- Large sized modern rooms with a large sized modern TV; Molton Brown bathroom accessories with a modern bathroom (no tub though)
- The best - the entire staff - so friendly, helpful and polite - Dominic, Valerie or a name that I am getting wrong - i believe that hospitality is no.1 about the people - if they are welcoming the rest is all taken care of.

I give it a 5/5 and only if they will only light up the rooms - the rest is all taken care of.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have the river view.

After having spent two sleepless nights at a cute, little old hotel in the old city (very close to Le Chateau Frontenac), we moved to Hotel Le Germain-Dominion to get some very much needed sleep.
Hotel Le Germain-Dominion exceeded our expectations!
I had not initially considered this hotel because I wanted to stay somewhere with an old world charm.
However, if and when I ever revisit Quebec City, I will never stay anywhere other than Hotel Le Germain-Dominion.

It is excellent value for the price.
You get 5-star service for a little more than what a 3-star hotel costs.

Here are some highlights:
- Super comfortable beds
I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud! I don't think I have ever put my head on a more comfortable pillow.
- Amazing staff
The staff, in my opinion, is what makes this hotel stand out.
Clarence was very nice, friendly, and helpful. Her recommendations were great, and exactly what we were looking for.
The housekeeping lady was also very nice.
- Great location
The hotel is located in the lower part of the old city.
It is a 3-4 minute walk to the funicular that goes to the upper part of the old city, right in front of Le Chateau Frontenac (or a very short drive up the hill).
It is also only a couple of minutes walking distance to Place Royale.
Finally, it is a very short drive to Saint-Roch - a hip, up-and-coming neighborhood with great dining options.
- Turndown service
Turndown service is such an undervalued service. But it is one of those small details that make all the difference. Every evening, we had two small boxes of chocolate on our pillows, along with the next day's weather. Turndown service is a must for any hotel that wishes to stand out.
- Great toiletries
I normally do not comment on toiletries; however, the Molton Brown toiletries were very nice (better than Bulgari, l'Occitane, and Aveda toiletries I have seen at some other hotels).

It's all in the details - from the oh-so-comfortable bed to the complimentary tea, coffee, and hot chocolate, Hotel Le Germain-Dominion will not disappoint!

P.S. Some recommendations I would give the hotel:
- provide slippers in each room (instead of simply having them available upon request);
- place some extra towels in the bathroom; and
- place a warm, cozy blanket in the room.

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Wonderful location in the heart of the old city of Quebec ; excellent room, and terrific continental plus breakfast included; what made it even better was the attentive kind and knowledgeable staff; especially at the front desk; very sweet and helpful in every way; we would recommend this hotel and hope to return there again; walking distance to shops and restaurants nearby as well a market that had all sorts of local products especially fabulous cheese, smoked salmon and confitures!

Excellent small hotel in Old Quebec - walking distance to cruise ship terminal, tourist shopping, art outlets, antique shops and a range of restaurants.
Fabulous staff and service. Large rooms with very comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast. Free wifi.
The hotel has a very cosy feel to it, was most enjoyable and well priced.
Woud happily stay again.

Room Tip: Suggest high room facing harbour.

We met friends from Toronto and stayed four nights. Immediately we knew this was the ideal hotel for our reunion. In the lower part of the old city, in the old Bank of Hochelaga building, in the modern understated and sophisticated atmosphere the staff helped us in numerous ways. Restaurant reservations and recommendations, to taxis, to browsing the old city streets the hotel staff guided us repeatedly. The breakfasts were a highlight from the amazing Quebec cheeses, croissants, jams and breads we tasted the best of the region. We would return in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Great rooms were at either ends of the halls.

Just spent a rainy weekend in Quebec City. Thankfully we had a beautiful room at the Germain -Dominion. Lobby breakfast was wonderful, staff helpful, fitness centre very good. Very close to all restaurants and old town shops and attractions. Would definitely stay here again.

We spent two nights at this hotel on our recent visit to Quebec City. The room is very modern and well appointed, the Nespresso coffee pod machine is a very a welcome addition.

The location suited us very well - a very short walk to the tourist areas but not overrun with tour groups and cruise ship passengers.

The breakfast is very continental - pastries, fresh fruit, coffees - all self served in a lounge environment.

Staff were very helpful with suggestions for dinner and sights and are fluent in English if your French language skills are not up to scratch.

Highly recommended if you are not too price sensitive.
