“Extraordinary Stay”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

We spent two days and nights at the Germain Dominion this past weekend. It proved to be one of the most satisfying hotel stays we have experienced. The front desk staff, young and energetic was exceptional. They are eager to help, well informed, always pleasant and smiling, and provide a level of service that is increasingly rare to find. Our room was large and the bed just perfect. The high tech modern décor was soothing. My only complaint might be to have the ability to increase the lighting a bit. The location is also outstanding. It permits exploration of the lower town and is a short walk to the funicular to enable exploration of the upper town as well. My wife and I can't compliment this hotel enough. We will be back!

Room Tip: A view of the old town on a high floor is suggested

I had heard about different issues friend's of mine experienced in Quebec and I was not prepared for what I found. Hotel Le Germaine is a great all around experience. First we arrived on 9 motorcycles and their private secure parking lot accommodated us. Later we watched people schlepping their luggage along the street to get to other hotels. the staff was polite, went beyond expectations to serve us. The appointment's at the hotel are lovely and great bed! it you are a coffee drinker you will be in heaven. at top end espresso machine available 24 hours in both regular and decaf. their continental breakfast is elegant, filling, and high quality. the location of the hotel is perfect for shopping, sightseeing, and dining.
we will always stay here when in Quebec!

Room Tip: They also have a nice fitness room.

I arrived at this hotel late at night after 3 flights and a transatlantic trip. My check-in was managed very efficiently and in a very welcoming way before I crashed into bed. Over the next 2 days I learned to appreciate the very special touches provided by this hotel - a welcoming and homely lounge area, a decent and varied breakfast buffet which can be taken in the lounge, a dining area or event to the patio outside, as well as a breakfast goody bag to take away after a very early morning check-out. The rooms are comfortable (great beds), but the lighting can be a bit dim in areas and my second floor room didn't have much of a view. Excellent Wifi throughout the property. Reception staff were always ready with a friendly smile to make taxi and restaurant bookings.

The hotel is very conveniently located in the heart of the old town with many bars and restaurants within an easy walk.

This is a fabulous hotel in a quieter pedestrian friendly area. The room was excellent, clean and spacious and the service was smooth. They make a big deal on the website about the quality of the bed and the linens etc. and they are not kidding, it is a great sleep experience.

I really enjoyed the continental breakfast as most of these are crappy but this was a full-fat delight! Cheese that is probably only ok by Quebec standards but is better than anything I find in the rest of Canada, along with a bottomless bowl of chocolate croissants. And rabbit rillette to spread on toast. There was healthy stuff too, but who cares? I can't eat like this all the time but it was fun to indulge for awhile.

We stayed here recently for a week (8/15/13-8/22/13). The excellent service started long before we got to Quebec City. After making the reservations, I had numerous back-and-forth email conversations with the hotel's concierge staff. They gave us valuable information such as the need to have dinner reservations, things to see, etc. I was amazed at how quickly they responded to my requests.

After getting to the hotel, the service continued. Even though we got there late (and we speak no French), the front desk person helping us got a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant for us that night. If you stay at this hotel, have them make reservations for you. Most nights we had the front desk help us choose a restaurant and they never steered us wrong.

Another nice thing about the hotel is the 24/7 espresso machine. Fresh ground regular or decaf espresso, lattes, etc., along with hot water for tea and an excellent assortment of high-quality teas was a wonderful addition. The included continental breakfast was nice - not amazing but it served its purpose.

We had a room facing the St. Lawrence River. While the view was nice, this is one area where you need to be aware of the noise. This hotel is in a great location. Because of that, there is much going on each evening in the area. There was live music, most evenings, fireworks at 10:30 PM on a couple of evenings (great show, btw), and loud zooming cars and motorcycles. If you are looking for a really quiet place, you will want a room with a different view, or perhaps a hotel in a different area.

The room itself was really large and well appointed. The beds were extremely comfortable and the linens and towels were first-rate.

We were glad to go this establishment while staying in Québec. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Despite the high price of the room, we felt it to be justified since this hotel has quite a cosy atmosphere. You can eat your breakfast or read the newspapers in the couch in front of the fireplace, which is nice. Moreover, this small (non-industrial) hotel is located in the city center (5mn by cab to the train station). Rooms are very spacious and clean. Breakfast is very good in spite of limited choice. To be recommended !

Wonderful boutique hotel. We had a suite, as we had 2 adults 2 children. They put a "spare" bed in the room for us, and let me say that spare bed is mighty nice. The bigger bed was pretty awesome also. Staff was marvelous, location is great, breakfast was yummy. But staff made the most difference. Just to convey some thanks, let me tell a quick story. We got shut out of the free cirque show b/c of alot of mistakes on the part of the restaurant (not associated with hotel at all). Anyway, with dinner in carry out boxes, we waited in line at the cirque, then came back to hotel after we could not get in. Told the front desk, just to commiserate and ask for a few plates and silverware to be sent up so we could eat our cold food. Of course they complied, and also sent up a nice cheese plate and some strawberries. A nice touch. Will stay here when I am in QC again.
