“Flawless experience”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

This was our second time staying at Hotel Le Germain in Quebec City, but this trip we had the chance to stay at other high profile destinations throughout the province, and were reminded why Le Germain in Quebec City was our favourite, and I'll tell you why:

Location: Old Quebec is stunning, and is divided into upper and lower town, I personally find lower town (where Le Germain is located) to be less touristy and bit more trendy. There are amazing restaurants all over Quebec City, but a lot of our favourites (and highest rated on tripadvisor) are located in lower town. Regardless, everything is within walking/short cab ride distance. The street the hotel is located on also seems to be very quiet which is great for sleeping.

Service: I've stayed at many hotels around the world, but the staff at Le Germain are incredible. Always so freindly and helpful without coming across as trying to hard or being intrusive. Anything you need, they take care of, from reservations to information on tours etc.

Extras: Breakfast is included in the lobby at Le Germain, and its far from the traditional chaffing dishes of scrambled eggs. Its a lovely continental breakfast of fresh coissants, toast with preserves, fruit, cheese, hardboiled eggs, yogurt, granola, etc. There is also a complimentary espresso machine in the lobby that makes lattes, cappucinos, americanos, hot water for tea, hot milk for hot chocolate etc. which is so nice to come home to after a chilly night on the town.

Ambiance: The hotel is elegant with a warm welcoming lobby and to me has the perfect blend of old world charm and modern elegance. It feels small enough that you don't feel like you're one of a million staying there but without feeling like a B&B.

Rooms: If you're travelling with a family like we were, book early as there are only a handful of rooms with two double beds, the rest are single Queens or Kings. The beds are heavenly, Le Germain have the best matresses EVER, you will sleep better than you have ever slept before. If you are interested in having a more uniquely styled room, I recommend staying on the older side of the hotel (there are two sides, one historical, one modern addition, to me they both look newly renovated) but the ones on the historical side have these big, cool bathrooms with a huge rain shower where as the other side have relatively standard bathrooms with bathtubs.

The rooms come fully equipped, amazing bath products (Molten Brown) bath robes, bose stereo (which they have playing for you upon arrival) glassware, even truffles on the pillow and Wifi is FREE!

Le Germain is hands down worth every penny, I honestly can't think of one thing that was less than perfect (and I'm honestly a very picky traveller) I've stayed at less expensive hotels and ended up paying more because everything from coffee, to wifi to breakfast is extra and the experience is nowhere close to Le Germain. Stay here, I promise you won't regret it!

Room Tip: Rooms on the historical side have a more unique decor/layout. Book early if you want two double b...

This hotel is in the heart of Lower Old Quebec and great for walking everywhere.
The rooms are very modern ,comfortable and a great view of the St. Lawrence if you ask for it.
There is a very good buffet breakfast with everything one could want.It is free of charge.
This hotel is great for business and tourists alike.
A mix up with a car rental resulted in a nice note and a lovely dessert. The staff really care.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

Bonjour!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review about your last stay in our hotel!

We are pleased that you enjoyed our services and location! We can't help but notice that the sleep quality wasn't as much appreciated... The Germain hotels pride themselves on having matresses specially made so our guests can sleep on the best bed possible.
Should there be anything we can do so your next experience is even better, please let us know!

Again, thank you for your comments, and we hope to welcome you again soon!

We stayed here for three nights. We arrived by train from Montreal and left in a rental car from Hertz. The hotel is not far from the station, but we took a taxi on account of our heavy luggage. On check-in I was keen to practice my schoolboy French and the receptionist obliged me by speaking very, very slowly, which was kind. Our room was on the first floor, overlooking the car park so I cannot comment on the view from higher up. The bedroom was a decent size, very clean and comfortable, and in the morning the inclusive buffet breakfast was fine. The coffee machine produced excellent coffee, and you could go back for more as often as you liked. It was also available to you all day long, and we made good use of it on two afternoons between sightseeing and going out again for dinner. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone.

On leaving, I walked about 15 minutes to the downtown Hertz office (which is actually in the Upper Town), drove the car to the aforementioned car park at the back of the hotel, loaded the car with the luggage and the wife, and drove off. No problem!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about your last stay with us!

We are very pleased that you enjoyed our hotel! Next time you are in town, we will make sure you have a different view! We are very lucky to be located in the historical district, with 3 different interresting views: The City view, overlooking Old Quebec, The River view, overlooking St-Lawrence River, and the Port view, overlooking the marina.
We can't always guarantee a specific view, but we would be happy to offer you a different experience!

And to practice your French: Merci de votre commentaire, et au plaisir de vous accueillir à nouveau!

Stayed three nights at the Germain-Dominion Hotel. The welcome was very friendly, & the reception staff spoke excellent English, especially due to our lack of French. The room was fabulous with a great view over the river. From beautiful toiletries to a lovely Nespresso coffee machine being available in your room. Also, the most squashy, comfortable mattress ever, with pillows that were like clouds - a really fabulous & comfy bed you just wanted to sink into. At the turn-down service, we were left the most divine chocolates & softly played background music, which was lovely to return to after being out all day &/or after a meal in the evening. The breakfast was continental & offered a great choice of different breads, pastries, cheeses, meats, jams etc., plus fruit juices & a choice of different tea & coffees. The reception staff were always on hand to help, & were informative about the best things to do & see in the city. Great location. A really nice, relaxed feel to the hotel. We will definitely stay again, should be in Quebec again.

We very much enjoyed our stay here! The location in the lower part of old Quebec is perfect. It is a very easy walk to the funicular to go up to the upper city. While we enjoyed the views from the upper area, we thought the lower area was much more interesting and attractive. The staff was exceptionally helpful. The included breakfasts were very nice. The had boiled eggs, cheeses, various breads, cereals, yogurt, and fruit. I loved the rabbit rillettes with my bagel..... Be sure to try!
We stayed in Rm 705, which had a beautiful view of the upper city and the Chateau Frontenac. I liked this view much better than the view of the river, since what you see from there is a working port. Be sure to ask for a room on the upper levels.

Room Tip: We stayed in Rm 705, which had a beautiful view of the upper city and the Chateau Frontenac. I lik...

Booked this hotel on the basis of other reviews and we would certainly echo all the positive comments. Superb location, with a range of excellent restaurants nearby. A really delightful boutique hotel with superb staff, very comfortable stylish accommodation and great attention to detail. Bedside water carafe and ice bucket filled every evening, comfortable beds, delicious chocolates on our pillows. We particularly enjoyed the availability of great coffee (unusually for hotels in North America) at all times of the day and night - both from the lobby machine and in our rooms. The choice and quality of the breakfast was excellent and so unexpected to have this offered free. Also appreciated the free high speed broadband. Would highly recommend this hotel for people who enjoy quality accommodation and attentive service.

We stayed one night at the hotel pre-cruise. The location is perfect as everything in old town is within walking distance and it is a short two block walk to the port.
The hotel is in a building built in the early 1900 and has a lot of charm. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a deluxe king room and found it spacious, very comfortable and quiet. The bed was firm, but with a soft top and was one of the best I have ever experienced in a hotel. The breakfast buffet was adequate, with limited choices, but of high quality. The orange juice carafe was empty and there were no juice glasses. The breakfast staff was in no hurry to correct either issue so we never did get any orange juice. We will stay there again when we return to Quebec City.
