“Chic, kind staff, lovely stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2009

We went there for our minimoon in August it is by far one of the best hotels we've stayed in. Breakfast fantastic, staff was great, loved the room. Except the shower, it was quite hard to clean in this type but otherwise, we really loved our stay and will go back again, definately!

We stayed at the Dominion1912 for two nights on our holiday to Canada. The hotel is located in an attractive building in the "ville basse", perfect for all sights and attractions in both parts of the old town, but very quiet. Our room was excellent: very spacious and nicely appointed, with a large and comfortable bed, and a great bathroom with walk-in shower, separate toilet, and nice toileteries. The hotel provides a free turn-down service. Staff are helpful and friendly. The only downside of this hotel was the breakfast: It is served as a buffet in the lounge, with the option to eat either on a large shared table or sitting on one of the sofas, which is different and can be quite charming. However, breakfast could have been better: Bad quality croissants, American-style bread, bagels, low-quality yoghurt and very poor selection of fresh fruit (two types of melon). Good cheese, however, but certainly nothing to write home about. This is in stark contrast to the otherwise quite sophisticated hotel. A little more attention to the quality of the food served at breakfast and the hotel would be perfect! The only other downside of the hotel is parking: At a hotel in this category, we find it quite unacceptable to be forced to pay for parking. However, overall it was a very pleasant experience.

Dear Sir and Madame,

Thanks for your recent visit and for your comment.

Our deluxe continental breakfast offers a large variety of products such as a 100% butter croissants, different types of breads (multigrain, wheat, white, bagel) and breakfast cakes (lemon, raspberry and banana), cheeses, yogurts and cereals. Fresh fruits and fresh coffee are available in the lobby all day long at no extra cost.

Sincerely yours,

We've stayed at this hotel 3 times now. When we've been in Quebec, it's been because we wanted a special weekend away, and this hotel has hit the mark. This last time we splashed out on a king room, though, and the extra cost made it all seem slightly less worthwhile, not because of the king, but because of the bathroom in our room. We've always had a lovely, spacious glass shower, but this time, it was a regular, old(ish) small bathtub and a thoroughly unremarkable shower. We booked several months in advance, but the room wasn't really as nice as the others we'd stayed in (queens), despite the higher cost. The people were still nice, the place was still queen, and the breakfast was still FANTASTIC, but the less than stylish bath and the higher cost for that bathroom--and that the room was entirely without a view (because of the low floor and the construction netting covering the place--made the room seem like less good value this time. Maybe there's something nicer for more almost 300$/night (incl taxes)? I'll be looking into it.

I travel often to Quebec City and have stayed at several different hotels in Old Quebec. So far, this was my favorite. The room was clean, the desk staff professional, and the services well-suited to the solo business traveller. When I arrived, the ice bucket had been freshly filled, there was bottled water available at no extra cost, and the lights had been turned on in the room so I did not have to struggle to find anything. There was no valet service but I did not need it.

I had a lot of work to complete in the evening and the desk space was highly suitable to the task. The closet was large and well-lit. The bathroom was clean. I slept like a log in the comfortable bed.

The continental breakfast was quite adequate with lots of choices. I like to eat breakfast in my room and they provide trays for that.

I returned to Quebec City the following week with my husband and booked at a different hotel, but regretted my choice as soon as I got there. We would have felt much more comfortable at the Dominion.

Enthused by the overwhelmingly positive reviews on tripadvisor, and having promised my girlfriend I would surprise her with a trip to Quebec city, I had very little hesitation in booking a room in Le Dominion 1912 for two nights. Little did I know those two nights were to be as memorable as they turned out to be.

Our initial impression, one which every traveler gets after his luggage has been brought in his room, he's tipped the valet, closed the door, and sat or laid in bed, was one of calmness and warmth.

The building, a refurbished bank warehouse, that is still in design, and feel, somewhat of an intimate fortress, partly exudes that sense of calmness. As does its location, in the Basse-Ville part of Quebec City, encircled by the Museum of Civilization, the rue St-Paul where old art, and antique is everywhere, and the St Laurence river, one cannot but feel an air of tranquility upon stepping outside at night.

However if that calmness partly finds its origins in its natural frontiers, and architectural foundations, it really comes forth in the interior design. Elegantly styled, with trendy sofas, where you can sip exotic tea or coffee, we used the main room for socializing or relaxing at the fireplace after a day in the city. As for the rooms, they have that warm, charming and romantic feel to them while blending the old with the new. And finally, the personnel, with Fred, and Andre being the more memorable and personable characters of them, are as human, zen, and amiable as you'll ever find in any hotel.

Perhaps the breakfast table could have been more elaborate, the wine selection more diverse, and an adjacent room less demonstrative noise wise in its love making prowess, but essentially, those two nights were so memorable and unique, we decided to book a third night at the Dominion and spent the following night in MTL at Le Germain.

This hotel proudly displays TripAdvisor Awards and gthey should. They deserve top star rating. Perfect location. Wonderful old world charm with all the modern conveniences. This maybe one of the the best run chains in the world. This is 2nd property we have stayed in and I hope to stay in them all. We payed slightly more than $200 for an oversized room with an incredible view of the river, the most helpful and effecient staff, an surprisingly complete breakfast buffet and all the other touches that make a traveler - b usiness or leisure - comfortable a refreshed. Stay here and enjoy one of North America's miost chraming cities. There is more to do and see than time allows.

This is our 4th stay at this hotel, which we love, but for the first time, there were problems. Because the problems were resolved quickly and well, we will return and hope that it was a one-time problem. What were the problems? Old-looking dried-up strawberries in the chocolate/strawberry tray I ordered for our anniversary - and the roses looked like they only had a few days left (fully opened). The window blind cords were so knotted that to close them, I had to climb onto the window ledge and spend 5 minutes untwisting them. The remaining problems were plumbing: the hot water sink tap was totally loose. The solution was a fresh strawberry/chocolate plate, a room change, and a refund of the romance package fee (without asking - a bonus). In the new room, another plumbing problem: the shower actuator came off in my hand. Fortunately I was able to fix it myself in a few minutes, but it was an annoyance.

The people are great, the breakfasts great, and the coffee machine great. We will be back, but if there are more problems next time, it will be our last visit.
