“True bang for your buck”
Reviewed 12 February 2014

Let me start by saying the wife and I have been going to Quebec Winter Carnival for 5 years straight. We have stayed in 5 different hotels and do not hold back when it comes to spending on the details.

Le Saint-Pierre is located in the lower town, right where the port is located. Picture the Chateau Frontenac looking down on you from a luminous cliff above. It is directly across from the museum of civilization. it neighbours many restaurants, shops and artist studios. It is also a 2 minute walk to Place Royale (Quebec city's original settlement) just beautiful! You can access the upper area of old Quebec via a large set of stairs or an outdoor lift called the Funiculaire ($2.50 per person)

We have stayed in upper and lower town. They all have value and history. My preference is anything within the walls or near Place Royale. Unless costs are a factor I would avoid the corporate behemoths. Quebec dose boutique right.

The hotel itself was very clean and spacious. The front lobby has a lounge with a gas fire place and coffee machine. The front desk staff for the most part were fantastic. Some better than others. There is an elevator with quick and easy access to your room, although the elevator itself had a faint smell of sewage (welcome to 200 year old buildings).

The room was a suite (305). Had a kitchenette, bedroom, living room and washroom. Had a lofty vibe to it. The view wasn't killer however you can find plenty of views going on a walk about town. It was modern and classic at the same time. The washroom did have a jetted tub but really was nothing to write home about.

A hot breakfast is offered every morning, inclusive of the price of the room. Lots of options and full of value. Don't be afraid to order it to your room.

The only issue we had was a random room service delivery at 8:00AM and a house cleaning attempt at 9:30. Both on the same morning. This must have been a clerical error at the front desk. Also remember the older buildings can be slightly noisy. I could imagine if we had children above us it may have been an issue.

Overall, three nights in a great room, a nice hotel in a fantastic location, including breakfast......$650. We paid nearly twice that last year for a hotel that had a slight edge in the luxury department but bang for your buck Le Saint Pierre did a great job.

Room Tip: The 05 units are suites. Basically nice lofts. Don't expect any bling, just an overall spacious...

We recently stayed here for our anniversary and were upgraded to a mini-suite. It was beautiful, with brick walk and views of the chateau de Frontenac from the top floor. We stayed in room 406. Great location is old quebec below the funicular, close to the port. The breakfast included is gourmet - menu options include Crepes, omelettes and eggs Benedict. Would love to stay here again! It had the old Quebec charm but refurbished, clean and great staff!

A beautiful hotel. One of the nicest I have stayed in Quebec. The room was simple but clean and quiet, which is what we wanted. Short walk to lower old city and easy ride up the glass elevator to upper old city

I can't say enough about our wonderful experience at St. Pierre! The staff goes out of their way to help you, and always with a genuine smile. Our small wedding party stayed there and relied on the staff for MANY details... From restaurant reservations to getting a bouquet last minute. Each of the rooms is unique and a blend of old world charm and warmly modern. We felt right at home! There is a cozy sitting room downstairs and the hotel is in a prime location for walking to restaurants as well as to the magical Petit Champlain Street. We had a beautiful wedding in Old Quebec on Christmas Eve 2013 and le Saint Pierre was a big part of it!

Room Tip: All of them are unique, you can't go wrong!

This was our first trip to Quebec City. We always wanted to go and figured it would be the perfect place to spend our wedding anniversary and bring in the New Year. We looked at the St Pierre and the reviews and figured we'd take a chance. As soon as we stepped into the lobby we knew we had picked a winner!!! It was warm and inviting and the front desk personnel was second to none! Very helpful with all of our questions and needs. The location was perfect...walking distance to a host of great shops and restaurants!
The room ( it actually was a suite) was gorgeous with exposed brick, a jetted tub, an incredible view, and the icing on the cake was the fully decorated Christmas tree in the living room!! Brilliant! The suite was very clean, the linen was first class and the included full breakfast was very tasty and the menu was quite varied. We loved everything about the Saint Pierre and will come back again!!! We also told all of our friends about this lovely hotel and what a great time we had there!! Merci beaucoup to the Saint Pierre and and it's wonderful staff!!

Stayed here December 2013 with my husband and daughter. We were satisfied but nothing spectacular. It is a small, quaint hotel, has a cozy feel that fits in with the whole ambiance of Old Quebec. Rooms are not that big, but sufficient to move around when organized. All was clean, the bathroom lacks more shelves and hooks, it just seems you are always looking for space to put something on, our jet bathtub did not work, but wouldn't have used it anyway. The breakfast is kind of a hit or miss situation, they have a menu you choose from and served by the wait staff, eggs benedict were horrible did not even touch them ! The baked goods are a far cry from anything "French" more like airline pastries. I would suggest the hotel do a buffet breakfast with perhaps less variety of food to make it cost efficient, but more appetizing to the guests as this way they could see up front what they wish to consume. Just seems like the hotel and everywhere else in the entire city everyone is very "thrifty" with everything ! The little lounge room has a little fireplace, free coffee and tea, I feel they should install a big screen tv in one corner so people could have a variety while sitting to relax after a cold day outside and perhaps put out some hot chocolate, even if to pay for it everyone loves hot chocolate after a cold city walk around town. We had dinner at the restaurant next door inside their other hotel, was okay kind of an Americanized version of fine "Italian" food, but overall ok if you do not want to venture out, as the nights get very cold. Believe it or not we had "great" weather during our December stay, after we departed temperatures dropped drastically like -30-40 but be prepared for the cold as both my husband and daughter got sick. Overall a wonderful little city, which is magical during the winter and snow.....brrr

Bonjour from Québec City,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments on your recent stay at Le Saint-Pierre, auberge distinctive. We pride ourselves in our service and we are so sorry to hear we were not able to fulfill all your expectations. The Restaurant Manager has been met already in regards of your comments on the breakfast. As for the space problem in the bathroom, I would like to mention that we will do some renovations in our rooms in 2014, which will add more storage for personal items.

And if one day we have the privilege to welcome you back, I would like to let you know that we do have hot chocolate available in the library, along with the coffee/tea cups.

Thank you again for your comments. We hope you had a safe trip back home and we look forward to welcoming you again.

My husband and I came to Quebec City for the first time with friends this winter. The manager, Ariane, set us up with a really cool suite - a combination of rustic (you could see some of the old brick walls) and modern (half walls to make rooms within the space, modern decor, etc.) It was great! The bed was also very comfortable. We really enjoyed the delicious breakfast and the view of the falling snow outside the windows in the breakfast room. The service was all very friendly and everyone spoke English. Highly recommend. Would love to return.

Room Tip: Ask Ariane if you have any specific requests.
