Lower town is truly where you get that authentic European flavor. We loved walking all around and stopping at the cute stores or getting something to eat.

Lots of interesting shops, restaurants & street musicians make it worth visiting. Take the steps down or the Funiculaire.

Spent a number of happy hours in galleries and shops in this area as well as having a number of great meals. Good area for exploring and seeing the old city and architecture.

Had a great time exploring Lower Town in early June and the weather was perfect. Many restaurant choices and a variety of shops selling standard touristy items and also specialty shops. In the end though, the architecture was the selling point for me. Enjoyed the winding streets and stairs and beautifully maintained buildings.

The lower town is much more charming than upper town, and restaurants have better quality food , representative of the region. If you are from somewhere that thinks Maple syrup is a Canadian novelty that you must buy , go to a grocery store, to the condiment aisle and pay less than half of what you would in the tourist markets. If you are going other areas of Canada as well, don’t worry, you can find maple syrup everywhere, not just Quebec.
