My wife and I had planned and researched this vacation trip very carefully before booking four nights at the Clarion Hotel, Ste Foy, Quebec.
We decided to drive to Quebec through our beautiful home state of Maine and cross the boarder into Quebec at Jackman, Maine. We waited in line for 51 minutes to pull up to the window and hand over our passports. The young woman had a very snotty attitude and when I told her we would be staying longer than 48 hours she had us pull around back and report to "Immigration." We thought the tight security was rather comforting in today's world, but, it would've been nice if they could've not been so terribly rude; they made us wait another 20 minutes while they stood around the coffee maker goofing off.
Day one was not starting off that well. We had wasted so much time at the boarder that we decided to drive straight to the hotel and get checked in.
The very first thing to hit us as we got out of the car was the horrid stench coming from the restraunt dumpster that was baking in the August heat. The dumpster had been hosed out and the effluence had puddled in hotel's parking area to form a sticky stenchous goo.
We had checked in and found the Hotel Clarion nothing like Travelocity's description. We had booked a king and we got two doubles, there was no room service, no mini bar, and no free breakfast. We were not minutes from Downtown Quebec City and the traffic nightmare in the area made our stay problematic. Quebec City has a severe traffic and parking problem. Get ready to spend big bucks for gas and parking.
As for the food. If you want good food at resoable prices do not go to Quebec.
Quebec City was a destination where you never feel as though you've gotten your money's worth.
The U.S. Customs agents who welcomed us back into Maine were friendly, outgoing, proffesional, and speedy. We were never so happy to get back home.
