This museum is not well advertised to make the most of what it is. The first time we saw it, we thought it was the last place we go, not being French speakers. However, when the Musee de la Civilisation was mostly closed and gave us free entry, we decided to give it a try as it would at least kill some of the time we had planned to spend in there. But we were so glad we did!

The exhibitions were brilliantly put together and organised (one of the only 2 small things that stopped it getting a 5/5 was the lack of guidance through the whole thing - where best to start each floor? Which floor to start on?)

The experience was fascinating and left us with a much better sense of who the Canadians are and where they come from - and the history of the land that we had no idea about.

We spent much more time here than we anticipated, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to understand the French-speaking peoples of the continent and how they developed over time.

The other thing that stopped it getting a 5/5 was the lack of headphones - some of the stories only had 2 with English commentary, and as there were 3 of us, it did cause problems at times.

This museum I would say is halfway between a museum and an art exhibition. If that sounds like fun to you then check this out for sure. I got my admission as part of the package deal with the Civilization Museum. I found the museum to be informative and entertaining. There are a lot of multimedia and interactive exhibits, as well as interesting concepts in presentation. The museum did feel a bit sparse though. More style than substance. I enjoyed it more as an experience than as a straight educational museum.

Lots of money has been spent on this museum and, for me, it has not been a successful investment. The designers have overwhelmed the content which is a real shame because the content - Francophone immigration to North America and the archaeological excavations of the 16th century site at Cap Rouge, for example, both had the potential to be really interesting. Instead it is dark, confusing and difficult to get through - beware the spongy floor in the second floor exhibition... Could have been so much better!

What a disappointment, the Church was the only cool thing, the actual museum was really bad. I may be old school, but this is a terrible attempt at being a modern contemporary presentation. It's way to dark inside, and it had all of these double layer moving video and loud audio projections on silk screens, that are way to much of a sensory overload. One section has squishy rubber floor tiles my 73yr old mother almost tripped on. Save you money for something else

This museum was a very pleasant surprise. If you have any interest in learning about French immigration to North America, this is the place to start. Extremely informative with imaginative displays.
