We booked online for a hotel in Quebec City, but when we got there the booking had been cancelled because my husband made the booking using my card, and it wasn't accepted. So, 5 minutes before the tourist office closed for the day, we were without a hotel. Then a wonderful lady in the office found us this hotel... and we were extremely happy! Not only was breakfast included in the price, but there was safe parking for our car. And Constantine, the receptionist, was charming and helpful. So all in all, a mistake turned out better than we hoped, and we found a hotel, part of a group, which we will happily use again if we ever have the good fortune to come back to Canada. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, and the breakfast was very good. Also, it is ideally placed for restaurants and sightseeing. I don't know what eastcoastMontreal was on about, because we had coffee making facilities in our room. For value for money, go for it!

Room Tip: Don't take a room on the third floor if you have been sightseeing for three days and have bliste...

We may have been a bit spoiled at the B&B la Fontaine a block away (where we stayed for the first 2 nights of our stay) however when we checked out and then checked into this one we could have cried. It is falsely advertised to be included as a B&B. It is not a warm environment whatsoever, unless we are speaking of the temperature of the room. The check in desk is located doen the street, the room is like a 1 star hotel room. Although you can see the housekeepers around I really wonder what they do when they clean the rooms. There was dust so thick on an obvious ledge that is so visible as it is where the exhaust from the poor portable air conditioning unit is.The breakfast is also located at another "B&B" down the block which consisted of toast machine juice and watery coffee. Anyways it was unfortunate we had to experience this but the lovely city and the B&B la Fontaine we stayed at for the 2 nights previous made up for it. This place should be categorized as a Hostel rather than a B&B.

Room Tip: Do not choose this place!

My mother and I planned to be in Quebec City for Canada Day. Au Jardin du Gouverneur wa in the perfect location for our stay. In the heart of the city, it was easy for my mother to navigate the hills from this location.

Room Tip: we were fortunate to face the quiet park

For $160 a night, tax included, there was no coffee maker in the room, no telephone, an air conditioner that sounded like an airport runway. There was no front desk and no security at the building, except at another of this hotel chain a half-block away. We arrived and a note on the door said to go to other hotel a half-clock away to get a key. The room required payment in advance The room was large except required ducking for the 45 degree beams across. The parking that was advertised was actually a city lot a hilly mile away. The free breakfast that was included was provided over at the hotel where the key was kept -- it consisted of a glass of frozen OJ, toast (your choice of brown or white) jam or marmalade and lukewarm coffee, with seating either in a dark corner of the ground floor hallway or on a "terrasse" which also served as the garbage area for their hotels with stored cars and smoking staff. The interiors were dull and the great location advertised behind the Chateau Frontenac was facing a wall. The hotel has bad ventilation and no air circulation. This hotel is part of a complex of hotels including Maison du Général, B&B des Grisons, Château de Lery, Manoir Saint-Geneviève, Château Fleurs de Lys, Manoir de la Terrasse & Beau site. We once stayed at de Lery and it was a little bit better because the front-desk was on the ground floor; we were hoping the "another chance" might be better but it wasn't. Spend a few bucks more a get an upgrade in a better class of hotel.

Room Tip: Try another hotel

The only good thing I can say about this hotel is... location!
It is located next door to the famous Chateau Frontenac!
It was the most important thing for us- to be in this location, so we booked this hotel for one night and knew very well what to expect!

Yes, I’ve read the bad reviews (they are all true!) and I was prepared to see a very, very old building, to find extremely dirty and dusty windows, gross bathrooms, to experience a very uncomfortable sleep on a squeaky mattress.
I was not surprised that we were not able to lock the door to our room, as it didn’t work, so we just did not lock our door… :-)
There is no reception in the hotel and no services whatsoever – the reception is in a neighbouring building, but we did not want to waste our time to go and ask for help. We didn’t want to spend any time inside. We left our bags and went out to be charmed by the Old Quebec. It is a very beautiful town and the location we chose was exellent.
We came back late at night and we woke up really early to leave this hotel.

We got a $5 coupon per person for the restaurant L'Omelette, (which was fantastic and highly recommended place for a breakfast.)

I don't think we will return to this hotel ever again!

Room Tip: Don't stay in this hotel, unless you absolutely prepared :)

This is an old building that has been retro-fitted as a hotel. There are many like this in the old part of Quebec City. It is right next to the famous Frontenac, facing a square, and so it was very convenient. There were flies in the room, a lot of incoming street sounds and lights at night. There's no place to put anything down in the bathroom - not even a toothbrush! The reception area is in a neighboring building, so you have to go out if you need help. There's no phone, clock or coffee pot. It was fairly clean and the beds weren't bad.

To start im not to picky about where we stay, but upon first entering the building, you can see it needed some repair. Now, there are some nice rooms there, but not the one we got at the $75 a night rate. At first glace the carpet was gross and the room smelled. When i started to look closer at the carpet there were toe nails all over the place. NOT fresh cut ones either, they were all yellow and stuff making me think they were there for a while. So at that point we went over to the office and got an upgrade for a added $25 a night and they gave us a room at one of their other hotels called Hotel Beau Site. It was well worth the money and it was only 100ft away from jardin du gouverneur.
