“Great place to stay near Vieux-Québec”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2012

I went there with my girlfriend and we stayed for 2 nights. Great service, comfy rooms and great location. A 5 minutes walk from the Portes St-Jean, so it's perfect to spend some time in Old Quebec. We really enjoyed it, good value for the price. I went back a year after with my family. The pool is quite small, but the spa area is pretty relaxing. I would go back.

Ps. Try the Parmesan restaurant, good italian food!

The price was pretty good, but there were tons of little problems that left us feeling like it was not worth it.

The Good:
-Concierge and bell staff were very helpful, friendly, attentive, and fast. The quality of those members of the staff were high above the rest of our experience - way better than this hotel deserved.
-location is very convenient to the old town and the convention center
-Our inner courtyard room was quiet
-convenience store attached to hotel is well stocked

The Bad:
-The front desk staff, the houskeeping, and the people who answer the phone were curt, rude, slow, sloppy, unhelpful, and bad.
-A/C unit shut off in the night for no apparent reason. The next morning when we asked, an engineer said "someone had turned off all the circuit breakers for our floor"
-someone else's hair was all over the room and wasn't (or couldn't) be vacuumed up from the carpet
-wallpaper wasn't installed correctly, so the guest room walls looked unfinished
-holes in the guest room wall where pictures had been hung
-The in-room safe wasn't working and it took a long time and several tries to get it working - 2 visits from security
-not enough power outlets, and the wall switch by the door did nothing
-on one day, the housekeeper forgot to leave us any towels. But took all the old ones.
-I agree with another reviewer that the rooms feel like Motel 6 - a bad Motel 6 at that.
-The bed was like a torture plank with a mattress pad over it, and the comforter scared me. The only kind of blankets we could get were those weird foamy lightweight ones. We specifically asked for some other kind of blankets (particularly cotton) and didn't get anything until we called again - and it still was another like the one we didn't want...

Overall, it wasn't horrible, just annoying and disappointing. I believe you could find another place to stay in Quebec that would be a better deal.

Room Tip: there is an inner courtyard, so rooms overlooking there would be quieter than those overlooking the...

As a first time visitor to Quebec City I was blown away by the beauty of the city. The Chateau Laurier was a clean, quiet, comfortable hotel in a very central location. I found the staff to be helpful and friendly, overall the service level was top notch. The one small thing that I did not care for was the world's smallest ironing board in my room, barely bigger than my laptop! One final comment is that I do not speak French but I had no trouble communicating with anyone as most spoke English, everyone was friendly and patient.

Stayed here two week ago on an overnight business trip. There are two sections to this hotel and I was in the older one, as it was a last minute booking. The hallway and elevator were really close to my room but I did not hear a thing when my door was closed, despite there being some sort of meeting at the time next to my room. The sound insulation was very good. However I was right off the main street wit the restaurants and bars across the street. I could hear the booming from the bar fairly well. Hotel ha a great gym, pool, spa an sauna. Everything you would expect to see. It is literally next to the plains of Abraham/Citadel and old city, as well as being a 5 min walk to the convention center. Parking in the basement $$ and secure. Saw a few patrolling security guards in the parking lot. A St Hubert chicken restaurant and a full convenience store "depaneur" was also very convenient. Concierge desk and a car rental company on site. I would stay here again.

Chateau Laurier is very strict about the no-show policy. We were dinged $195, no negotiation. Our oversight for not cancelling in time, yet our daughter was booked (and did show) in a separate room for 4 nights. That didn't factor... very disappointing.

We had reservations at the Chateau Laurier for saturday November 12, we were a group of dairy farmers and industry travelling from the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto on our way home to New Brunswick. Our rooms were all pre arranged and paid for well in advance and one of the highlights was to stay at the Chateau laurier on our way home. When we arrived they told us that one of the soccer teams decided to stay an extra night so they gave them our rooms, they had no reservations while we did and had already pre paid for the rooms. Our group could not believe how this could happen, they moved us to the Delta which is in much need of upgrades and repair, it caused considerable hardship. After much discussion with hotel management they offered us nothing for our trouble, just said they were sorry. I can not believe that when you have reservations confirmation numbers etc they can just turf you out with no compensation, I realize they had screwed up at the hotel so we should not pay the price, hard to believe a hotel of that size can`t offer something.
You the management of that hotel should be embarrassed, have you never taken a couse etc on how to treat the customer, do you think this will help your business, word of your treatment will certainly be told in a number of different ways and to numerous people.

This is a really lovely hotel surrounded by great restaurants, a moment's walk to the Parliament buildings and just a little further to the old city.
We had a standard room with king bed room which was very spacious with tasteful furniture, air conditioning and a large bathroom. No bar fridge however.
The room was very quiet, even though we were in Quebec City during a bicycle race which was quite noisy at times.
The lobby is lovely with free internet, wine vending machine and coffee machine.
The concierge service was excellent and directed us to many fine restaurants and activities.
Fantastic pool and outdoor heated spas.
It was about a $10-$15 taxi ride from Via Rail station.
Would definitely stay here again.
