“Great surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

As many people, I did reserve this hotel by internet, and it was a very nice surprise, clean, excellent location, friendly and spacious rooms. I do recommend this hotel, for the price I don't think you can get a better deal.

Room Tip: The ones at the end of the hall are more spacious. Corner ones.

Extremely convenient hotel location. Just outside the Walled area, but a 15 minute walk to old city area. Very close to Trendy restaurants and bars on Grand Ale. Restaurant recommendations from the hotel staff was excellent.

My family of four stayed four nights at the Chateau Laurier. Our first night was on the second floor (there were no rooms available on the higher floors that night) in a two queen bed room in the new section. The room was very good, but we looked out over a parking lot and could tell that a higher floor would afford better views, so we asked to move the next morning. We were given a corner room on the fifth floor (room 502) -- same type of room, but the vestibule was around a corner and the armoire was a closet rather than an extension of the dresser furniture. That gave us a little more room, plus we got the view we hoped for. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The pool is a little small, but nice. The fitness room was adequate with bikes and elliptical and weights. The whole hotel is incredibly clean. We used the parking lot behind the hotel, which is cheaper than the parking under the hotel. That worked out fine. The location is fantastic. It is out of the touristy mess of the old city yet an easy walk in to see the sights there. The Montcalm neighborhood is an easy walk in the other direction. Even St. Roch is walkable. And the park area of the Plains of Abraham is right out the back door. The city is super and the hotel is is a great place to call home while there.

I checked in today on 31st July 2014. Was dropped off by taxi at the gate and was with wife and three kids. We were helped by the taxi driver who un loaded the bags and then we dragged the bags into the lobby ourselves. There were bell boys who preferred to look away. My kids include an 8 year old and a 9 year old. 12yr old helped me bring the bags in the lobby where I put them aside near the luggage trollies. Was hoping to have these delivered to my room.

Was very professionally handled by a young lady at reception, she was courteous and did fine. Then I look around and bell boys vanished. All of them ignored us and then we dragged the bags to our rooms. I have two superior rooms. Have traveled all over the world but have never seen such discourteous staff at the door.

Let's see what tomorrow holds. Should have gone fairmont, if only it was available.

We were here for 4 nights rom July 22 to July 26. Had a great room in the Plains part. The room was large and very quiet. The location of the hotel was perfect. Near many restaurants and a short distance from the gate to the old city. We found the staff very friendly and efficient. The concierge staff was very helpful. The housekeeper for our room fixed the lotion dispenser, after I left a note, and always left a note of thanks for the daily tip. The hotel also partners with several restaurants to give a 15% discount on the dinner part of the bill (not including any liquor). We took advantage of several of these restaurants and they were very good. If I had to complain it would be that the pillows were not very good, but the mattress was very good We would stay there again if we return to Quebec.

Needs updating and only some employees are nice and helpful. Don't get hopes up. Overrated and not nice views. Only if you do to have famous restaurant row outside your door, and be very close to old Quebec quarter and don't care about views or noise level or room decor or paying lots of money for small rooms or having to pay much more for a normal size room will you be happy. There are other hotels with excellent views, like Delta and Concorde, and good sized rooms for less money only a few blocks away. And rooms facing street and rooms facing garden are both terribly noisy.

Room Tip: There are none that stand out
