“Think twice, especially if you have a pet”
Reviewed 14 September 2008

There are good points to this hotel – location and people working there (it is important if you need a lot of help arranging for entertainment). BUT if you are travelling with a pet – think twice. When I called to ask for rates (I was travelling with a pet) I was told there were one queen bed rooms available on each floor, which could accommodate us with a pet for 184$ (pet – 25$ extra/night). When I called the very next day to book it I was told that they did not have any rooms available except for two queen bed rooms, which were 204 $. We had to stay close to the old city, so I booked two queen bed. The room we got did not have ANY view (literally, our room overlooked windows of next room across the roof in 2 meter distance). It was a dark quiet big room, and because of windows across we had to keep ours closed (so no sunlight). We really felt that they made money on us and did not even bother to give us better place for it. Regarding wireless internet – we had to move laptop around to find the spot, where it was accessible.
The most frustrating part was a checkout – we were overcharged twice. First, they still tried to make money on pet by charging extra 50 dollars (on their website it says they do not charge more than 100 dollars per stay, but they tried) and even when my husband pointed out the mistake he was billed exactly the same amount on visa, so he had to point out the problem again. Later I checked the bill and saw that they charged us extra 20 dollars for Friday night, which was not discussed in the beginning. I had to ask receptionist to correct this mistake as well. We asked for late checkout, but were told that the hotel was booked and we could not stay later then 12pm (I did not see a lot of movement that day though). I found it to be disrespectful, considering we left there more then 1500 $ and stayed for 6 nights (for a long stay our rooms have always been upgraded before (with a pet) and we were allowed late checkout in other hotels). We felt that the hotel made as much as they could on us for a not so good room.
Unless you really need to stay within old city or need a lot of assistance, you can find a better and cheaper place to stay at, especially if you have a pet.

This is a top, top choice if you are looking for a combination of location, service, and comfort. Located in the heart of Old Quebec, everything is within a 10-minute walk, and nearby off-site parking is very reasonable. The rooms are clean and spacious and the bathrooms quite nice as well. The lobby is comfortable and offers two computers with internet for guest use. The front desk staff is fantastic; patient, eager to help and advise guests on what to see and do.

We stayed at L'Hotel de Vieux Quebec for three nights. The property is located in the middle of a bustling tourist area, which is great for sight seeing on foot. The staff is extremely pleasant and helpful.

Even though the hotel is in the middle of everything, our room (on the second floor) was quiet. The decor was nice, the bathroom was spacious and modern. It even had a mini refrigerator.

The hotel offers guests a complimentary 1.5 hour walking tour of the old city. Take it! We had a knowledgeable guide and enjoyed learning about the history of this old French settlement.

When your feet give out, you can dine in a bustling French bistro that is in the same building as the hotel. The food is good. It's quite a popular place, so make reservations or you may have to wait up to an hour.

We enjoyed everything about our stay! Great location, lovely little hotel and an excellent value.

Great location, fully bilingual staff, sweet breakfast delivered daily, and a free 1.5 hr walking tour made this hotel a terrific place to get away and see the sights. The rates were also very reasonable and the room was air-conditioned - a necessity in late July!

Staff is terrific, room is great, breakfast basket is a special bonus. We stayed here for our 1st time during the 400th celebration. It' a relief to know there's an excellent restaurant right downstairs for rainy days, but all points within the Upper City are just a short walk. I liked our room; no surprises (see my photo). I would definately stay here again.

Location, location, location - to see Old Quebec, without paying Chateau Frontenac prices, stay at this little hotel downtown! It's right above a restaurant, but not noisy. Our room had great amenities, with 2 exceptions. They've done a fabulous renovation of an old building; however, the tub is difficult to climb out of if you're short, and the bed was a bit hard. BUT - the climate control is superb, the quietest & most efficient we've ever experienced (better than home!); and the breakfast is absolutely delightful!
You get a wicker basket hung on a special hook outside your door each morning - for 2, we got 2 croissants, butter, jam, a cup of applesauce & a cup of fruit cocktail, 2 bottles of OJ, & 2 individ. wrapped pieces of cheese - and 2 real (not paper or plastic) plates, real cutlery, a large cloth napkin that we used as a tablecloth (& 2 large paper napkins). Make your own coffee in the room, & it's room service! That was a real treat each morning we were there.
The staff downstairs was consistently helpful & friendly. The large room in back that's the lobby has books, games, computers, & I'm guessing the fireplaces would be working in the winter.
We walked all over the walled town; great restaurants, views, things to see & do.

We stayed for several days during Carnaval and all in all, the stay was quite pleasant. The staff were very friendly and fluent in English, with great suggestions for what to do and where to go. The rooms were small but clean and the picnic breakfast delivered nightly were fresh and delicious. The only downside was that one couple in our group booked all 3 rooms with the intention that the rooms would be at least near one another, but when we got there, we discovered that the 3 rooms were on different floors in 2 different sections of the hotel. Also, the pictures posted on the website (they have since completely renovated all their rooms) were quite misleading. The pictures on the website were of their "older" rooms, large and spacious with beautiful exposed brick wall, but the rooms that 2 of us got were in their "newer" section, which were smaller and not quite as nice. The rooms were adequate all the same, it just would have been nice if pictures of both types of rooms had been posted. Again, the hotel's undergone renovations, so this is probably now a moot point. That being said, I would still consider returning if i were in town again!
