“Great boutique hotel in great location”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

This is a fantastic boutique hotel. Located in the Vieux-port section of Quebec, this hotel is close to so many attractions, restaurants, and shops that you could spend several days and never make it up the hill to the rest of the city. It's about one block away from the Musée de la Civilisation (Museum of Civilization) and two blocks from Petit Champlain, a major shopping/dining/museum district.

The hotel staff were amazing during our stay. On a day that we were late getting out of the room, one of the front desk staff took it upon herself to not only clear the plates that we had after breakfast, but straightened the room and brought us more towels. The staff were also very kind as we tried speaking to them in our rudimentary French. They spoke perfect English, of course, but when we tried to converse they were exceedingly kind and encouraging.

Breakfast is included and we had that brought to the room most every day for a nominal charge. And it is a good breakfast: can be as light as cereal and croissants or as full as scrambled eggs and bacon. The sausages weren't what I expected for breakfast, but trying new things is a part of travel!

We stayed in the room called La Onze, or 11. The room itself was fantastic. Called a suite, it wasn't exactly multiple rooms, but there was a sitting area with couch and chair with great light to read by and large screen TV (channels in both French and English). The bed was comfortable and the area behind the bed was a dry bar with table and counter to eat and, and behind that was the magnificent bathroom!

Can't say enough about the bathroom. The shower was large with both a rainwater showerhead and a hand held sprayer. Both with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. There is also a soaking tub with air jets. Not quite what I would call a "Jacuzzi" tub, but really relaxing after a hot day of walking up and around the old city.

The only downside to this particular room was the location within the hotel. In summers, the hotel restaurant Toast! serves in the courtyard. The room is right on the courtyard, and while there are screens and curtains for privacy, the fact that we could hear people out there enjoying their dinner meant they were just as likely to be able to hear us. I think this room would be just about perfect in the winter time or for people who like to stay up later than we do.

One unique upside to this particular room is that it can be reached from an alley next to the hotel. Coming and going can be achieved without going through the hotel lobby, making it quick and easy to get out and about. It would also allow this one room to be more accessible for folks with mobility issues, for what that's worth. Most of Quebec is NOT friendly to people needing help getting around, but this one room might allow one less obstacle.

We never did eat at the restaurant. Neither of us like seafood and we never were in the mood for what they offered. Less seafood and more vegetarian choices would have improved the chances that we would have eaten there.

Be careful when driving to the hotel. The Rue du Sault au Matelot is nearly invisible when coming up from Rue Dalhousie on the Cote de la Montagne. The (quaint, charming, small) street sign is only visible from the other direction.

Great hotel, a really nice treat for us. I'd come here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The room called La Onze is right off of the terrace where the restaurant serves in summer. If you...

Hotel Le Priori is a fantastic boutique hotel in an ideal location on a charming street in Petit Champlain, just down the hill from Old Quebec. The hotel itself is in a beautiful old building that incorporates modern convenient touches seamlessly without losing the unique historic feel. The staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. We loved Quebec City, can't wait to go back, and definitely will stay at Hotel Le Priori.

Cordial professional staff treated our group of 7 lady cyclists extremely efficiently from the smooth check-in to assistance with bicycle storage to restaurant suggestions, maps, etc. Breakfast consisted of a large variety of food & the cold lemon water in the lobby was welcomed after our long cycle rides. Negatives: no electrical outlet in bathroom for a night light &, because the sink is in the bedroom, not much room for toiletries & cosmetics for 2 ladies sharing room.

Dear Sylvial,

Thank you very much for posting this review on Trip Advisor!

It was a pleasure for us to welcome your biking ladies group at Hotel Le Priori and our staff is happy to read that you have enjoyed our service! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we want our guests to take as much energy as they need to make the most of their day.

Thank you for your constructive feedback about our bathrooms. We always think about ideas to improve storage spaces. We have installed a set mirror with storage on each side so our customers can place their toiletries and are looking for other options to improve space.

We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again!

This is a fabulous hotel. My wife and I stayed here for 5 days in a junior suite and it was excellent.
We hated to leave. The staff was professional, courteous and always helpful. Breakfast was complete and filling with great service. The location in the lower town provides for easy access to Petit Champlain and the many restaurants and shops. Easy access to upper town as well. This was our first trip to Quebec City and it wont be our last much of which is due to the great facilities and staff at Le Priori. Looking forward to our return trip to QC and wont need to shop for hotel as this is the place!! Thanks to all for making our stay great!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Le Priori. The staff was extremely helpful in every way. The hotel is so charming and there is so much history behind it. The room we stayed in was a little small and faced the narrow street, but was quiet all the same. The beds were comfortable, which allowed us to have a great nights sleep for the three nights we were there. The breakfast provided every morning was also delicious. The complimentary water was also a big plus as it was really warm during our visit. The location itself is very convenient to all the places we toured, art galleries and dining. So glad I chose this spot. We had a wonderful visit.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us on Trip Advisor!

We are delighted to read that you have enjoyed your time with us! We were very happy to learn that you have enjoyed our service and our historical building! The Old Port is not only very convenient to explore our town but also less frequented than Upper Town at night.

Thank you for your kind words about our beds, the beds are Italian and the mattresses are made by a local supplier, just on the other side of Saint Lawrence river. We usually have warm summers and we are always happy to provide water to our guests to make sure they have everything they need before enjoying the city.

We love this hotel, and we haven't yet completed our stay. The staff we have met (Tania, Mylene, and Kimberly) are courteous, fun, and extremely helpful. Our standard room, though small, is well equipped, comfortable, and quiet. The bed is great. Above all, the hotel's location is perfect for walking tours, dining, and romance.

Dear BrummieNewMexico,

Thank you very much for reviewing us this quick on Trip Advisor!

It is very rewarding for all our team to read that you are enjoying your time at Hotel Le Priori! Thank you for your kind words about our standard rooms. As all our spacious and standard rooms are in a historical building, we did our best to optimize the space while preserving the character of our main building.

The Old Port is very enjoyable, especially at this time of year with all the terraces and flowers. It is a great base to explore our beautiful city as all the main attractions are at walking distance.

Hotel Priori is a boutique hotel that lies a few blocks from the water at the old port, and immediately outside the walls. The location is excellent although for those that aren't very mobile - do know there will be a few steep uphill climbs to get most places, if you're walking. On the street itself though are a few restaurants that looked/reviewed good, as well as a concentration of art galleries if your'e interested.

We stayed in the Junior Suite with Spa which was magnificent. Modern decor mixed in with the old time, 'stone wall' feeling of the area, comfortable beds, a well appropriated bathroom and a kitchenette with decent sized fridge and Nespresso machine. A wood burning fireplace added a nice touch, even on a mild spring evening, but the toast of the room was the private balcony with a large hot tub, couch, and view. The room was fairly quiet with a bit of noise that is to be expected in an old building.

Service was friendly and attentive, even calling around to find us a couple of options for a massage nearby. The breakfast was great, including these delicious scrambled eggs that were probably made with more cheese than egg! Service at breakfast left a little to be desired.

Parking for this hotel is a few blocks away at a parkade by the water. This is a little inconvenient but understandable as the hotel is on a tiny street that is barely accessible by cars.

Hotel Priori isn't cheap, but it delivers on the price tag and I would return for another special occasion stay.

Room Tip: Junior suite with Spa is very well priced comparatively, considering you get your own private balcon...

Dear Ryanm_edmonton,

Thank you very much for reviewing Hotel Le Priori on Trip Advisor!

Our team is very happy to read that you have enjoyed your stay with us! Our Junior Suite with Spa is definitely a unique accommodation in Québec City as it features its private spa and balcony with an amazing view on Place Royale. The Old Port is definitely a great location to explore our beautiful city! The walled city is easy to reach by funicular for guests who do not want to use the Côte de la Montagne.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we do our best to provide our guests with a delicious complimentary buffet. I am really sorry to read that service at breakfast was not up to par with service provided by our front desk. I will pass on the word to the restaurant team to make sure we address the situation.

Parking is not very easy in Old Quebec but our available parking spots at Dalhousie parking just down the street are very convenient, as we have guaranteed spots all year long.

Offering the best value possible to our guests is one of our top priorities and it is always nice to receive feedback encouraging us in this way, merci beaucoup!

We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you soon for a special stay!
