“Great People, Great Location, Great Deal”
Reviewed 25 July 2008

We were very lucky to find this hotel, particularly during a period that included both Quebec City's 400th anniversary and the annual summer festival. The staff was friendly and cheerful and the women who worked at the front desk were especially helpful. The location was ideal. We walked everywhere during our stay (except for taking the Funiculaire up from the lower city when we were tired). The room was a little small, but was clean and very reasonably priced, particularly since the price included breakfast. We hope we have the opportunity to stay there again.

We spent five days at this hotel and really enjoyed our time.

The hotel staff were all attentive, pleasant and always smiled and welcomed us. The owners appeared concerned about their patrons.

We used two adjoining rooms during Summer festival. While the music was loud as expected and we could here some early morning trucks the location was great. Close to Parliament, Citadelle, Plains of Abraham and down the street from Frontenac.

We parked in the extremely small parking lot behind the hotel which was always locked for safety. The owner was willing to help direct us as we had to back out of the tight parking spot.

Breakfast was very good with plenty of selection.

The staff were more then willing to help us when we needed help and even turned the A/C a bit cooler for us.

It was great staying within the walls so we were close to all that was going on during the festival.

Loved our stay and would highly recommend this accommodation.

  • Liked — Friendliness of staff and location
  • Disliked — Parking was tight, but with help it was manageable and safely stored behind hotel

Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed with the attitude of this hotel, firstly they messed up the booking leaving me without a room at 10pm at night during the festival, then when I complained the next morning the owner never apologised but simply said that I could find another room and she wouldn't charge me the cancellation rate. When I saw the room it was tiny, dark and grotty and nothing like what they show on their web page. Additionally there was a noisy air conditioning system that couldn't be turned off. In the end after much searching I found another room at a b&b that was cheaper and much better!

We were a group of five couples attending a family reunion in Quebec City. We reserved rooms at the Manoir de l'Esplande and were very satisfied with the atmosphere and service provided by the hotel and its friendly and helpful staff.

Rooms are on the smaller side compared to modern hotels, but are attractively furnished, very comfortable and scrupulously clean. Rooms at the front overlook a park; our room was on the back - no view, but very quiet.

If you are on an upper floor you have to be prepared to climb stairs, the hotel is located in a historic building without an elevator.

The buffet breakfast is generous - orange juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, choice of cereals, bagels, croissants, toast. The breakfast room also is kept scrupulously clean .

There is a pleasant lounge in the front with a computer for guest use.

We felt the hotel was very reasonably priced for all it has to offer, - also for its location, which makes it very easy to visit the sights in "View Quebec". We definitely recommend it.

This hotel is a sweet find. We went during Winter Carnival with 6 of us in 3 rooms facing the Parc Esplande and gate. Each room is unique. The furnishings are pleasant enough and very clean. The bed is firm and we all slept well on them. The rooms we had all have the wonderful old windows deep enough to sit in and watch the world go by. The windows shut out more noise than I would have expected and the rooms were pretty quiet given all the activity going on late into the night.

The location is fantastic, very central to everything. The owners and staff were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. One of our party had a special request that was fulfilled happily. Each day we asked them to make reservations for us for dinner and they promptly did that, even getting us in when a restaurant wasn't accepting reservations.

The continental breakfast was way beyond our expectations. They had healthy cereals, yogurt, juice, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, fruit, bagels, waffles, muffins, mini chocolate croissants and the most heavenly large croissants. We never left feeling hungry and it saved us a ton of money on breakfasts.

Next time we go back to Quebec, this is our place!

Overall, we didn't feel that this property provided the value we expected of a "boutique" hotel in this price range. In fact we did not find it to be a boutique hotel. However we would like to qualify this opinion - we have not stayed in other hotels in Quebec City so have no point of comparison.

FIrst the good - the place is spotless and the owners are really nice people. As well it is in a good location within the walls of the old city (although we would stay in either Petit Champlain or Vieux Port areas for better ambiance next time). One other very good thing ... the bed was first rate.

On the downside, we just didn't feel this hotel delivered for the price tag. We were paying $175 (taxes included) for a "deluxe" room that had two beds and room for little else (and there wasn't anything else!). The heating system had no controls, the TV was a 20" CRT on a plywood shelf and metal brackets high up in the corner, artwork in the room was an afterthought, the towels were small and thin, and room supplies were meager (no Kleenex, shampoo only, disposable drinking glasses, etc.). The hotel website is highly complementary vs. what you get. One additional concerning thing ... there was no security locks on the door.

Breakfast followed the same theme. While there was plenty of food, everything was low budget. Styrofoam coffee cups and disposable juice glasses, apples that looked like they came off a backyard tree, bulk cereal serving devices, bus your own tables, etc.

Our next trip back to Quebec City we will try somewhere else. If we find that this is the standard to expect for this price range in this city, then we will return to this place because of the cleanlines and the very nice owners.

After doing much research on tripadvisor I booked this hotel based on the price and great reviews! I am happy to say I was very satisfied. Just outside the front entrance you'll see the old gates and a beautiful park, and down the street in any direction is either the Citadel, the Old Fort Wall, numerous restaurants and cafes, Chateau Frontenac and Lower Town. The furnishings are simple, but the rooms very spacious and the continental breakfast was great and well stocked. Fabulous stay!
