It is very cozy Hotel, the attendant is very friendly and you can visit almost all walking from there. The price is really nice too. It was the best cost-benefit hotel that I have visit here in Canada.

Room Tip: The hotel doesn't have lift, so it is better choose a room in the first floor.

We just spent three days at this funky hotel. It is cozy, warm and friendly. Riverview rooms offer nice views, but get one of the four rooms with balcony to really enjoy your stay! Quebec is a great walking city, and Chateau de la Terrasse is a great home base. If you pay cash for the room, your continental breakfast is included. It is wonderful to have coffee and pastries on balcony overlooking the river and lower town. Luxury? No. Just a great place to stay with good people serving you. This was the SIXTH time over the past 10 years that we stayed here!

Room Tip: Choose a balcony room. Remember -- no elevator so if stairs a problem don't book third or fouth...

We had not booked in advance! We were given Room #1 ground level. It was perfect! The little balcony lends itself to moments of lingering for recuperation. The view of the St. Lawrence River inlet with Cruise Ships, barges and tour boats coming and going was all one could ask for. The promenade in front of the hotel invited strolls with interest in noticing the passers-by. The location could not be better for walks about Old Quebec. This is a place to remember for a repeat. It was worth its seeming high price.

Room Tip: We liked our room #1! Our experience was QUIET atmosphere.

A nice enough hotel, placed exactly where you would want it in Quebec! Staff exceptionally friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Our room was a little tight on space, but adequate for our needs. No lift, so if on upper floors remember to pack lightly!! Having said that, the porter, Max, was very obliging and helpful, carrying up the largest suitcase, belonging to the female half of our party, so no real problem there. An old fashioned, French feel to the hotel (unsurprising given we were in French speaking Canada), but the location is extra special. Immediately you step out of the door, you have a panoramic view of the St Lawrence river, the Chateaux Frontenac, and the delightful boardwalk, reminiscent of days gone by, yet with tasteful modern additions. Central to all the delights of Quebec - Citadel, Place Royal, Place D'Armes, Old Town, Old Port, City Walls, Plains of Abraham, and the overarching feel of a beautiful French provincial town, with a unique Canadian slant. Would thoroughly recommend for the reasons given, but not for those who expect all-singing, all-dancing bells and whistles on their accommodation. More for those who look beyond the surface. One other tip - this is a perfect launch pad to go on the whale watching trip from Baie St Catherine (3.5 hours to the North). An easily organised tour collects you from the Place D'armes at 9.00am, and returns you at about 8.00pm with no stresses or hassle, and we ended up seeing pods of Hump backed whales and Blue Whales - what an experience! Wrap up warm, expect to get wet on the Zodiac trip (but well worth it), avoid the back seats on the Zodiac if possible, as this is where you will get the wettest!!!

What a great place to stay - we were in room #9 on the second floor which has a wonderful view across the St. Lawrence and it has its own small kitchen and living room, along with a small but very functional bathroom and bedroom with a queen bed. The location is about 100 metres to the west of the Frontenac and very close to both of the "old" city sections.

The staff were great and very helpful. Quebec City is very expensive which made this hotel "reasonable".

It is important to remember that the hotel does not an elevator

The good parts:
Great staff, very helpful friendly and nice. Everyone we met was wonderful and kind.
The view from the front of the hotel over the river is spectacular.
The very quiet location on what is basically a dead end street is nice if you need quiet, but there is nothing around for at least 1000 yards (cafes, shops, anything). If it's raining, this gets tiring quickly.

The bad parts:
Everything else.
There are NO amenities, no hairdryers, no alarm clocks, no ice buckets, nothing at all. The tiles are cracked all over the bathroom, the wallpaper is peeling, there is NO room to move around unless you like running into yourself, the ceiling fans rattle terribly, they give you two little flat pillows, there is a glass shelf just a foot above the sink so that you can constantly slam into with your hand, your brush, your face, etc. The large ugly roses on the bedspread match the large ugly roses on the curtains - my grandmother bought these new when she got married in the 50's. The whole place is old, tired, and in desperate need of renovation. If you are finding this is the cheapest deal in Old Town, you will find you are (barely) getting what you paid for. For $30 more, you can get a very nice comfortable room just a little way away.

Room Tip: No elevator

This hotel is about 200 years old and full of character. The owners and staff are very kind and made our stay pleasant. The location is perfect, it is within walking distance to upper and lower city with many shops, restaurants and landmarks to enjoy. Quebec City is very expensive and most of our money went toward food and drink. We took to buying a baguette and some nice Quebec Cheeses and having it for lunch with a bottle of French wine, it saved a bit of money. The food is great and there are a lot of restaurants to choose from. Ask the staff for a recommendation; they are happy to help.
