Le Chateau de Pierre

We chose Le Chateau de Pierre for our girls' long weekend away because of its central location in Old Town QC and because it was small/intimate. We were not disappointed! The accomodations were very comfortable (two rooms for 4 of us), and decorated with great care. Beware that the bathrooms are very small so if luxurious bathrooms are important this is not the place for you.
Although very close to the Fairmont Frontenac, Le Chateau was on a quiet side street close to the Citadel. We had a rental car (with inexpensive parking provided by Le Chateau de Pierre very close by with easy in/easy out for our visit to Montmorency Falls, etc.) but everything we needed to see in the City this visit was within walking distance.

Our hosts were very kind, making a point of seeking us out at some point during each day to ensure that our needs were being met and that we were enjoying our visit. Breakfast was continental style...thank goodness, because we otherwise ate like fiends throughout the entire weekend ...no shortage of excellent restaurants in QC!! I will definitely return to Le Chateau de Pierre, next time with my husband!

Room Tip: Our rooms overlooked the back patio, and it was lovely waking up to birds chirping in the morning. T...

Pros:
- Le Chateau de Pierre's location is perfect!
It is in the heart of the old city, Le Chateau Frontenac and the is a 2-minute walk away, as is Terrasse Dufferin.
- The building is very charming. Everything in the building has the old world class and charm, and it has been beautifully preserved.
- The room is also very charming. From the wallpaper to the curtains to the antique sideboard to the lamps in the bathroom, every little detail makes the room the charming little place it is.
- The owners and staff obviously do a very good job keeping the hotel clean. It was pretty much spotless.
- The new owner, Min, is a very nice lady. She was very responsive to our complaints, and was very caring - she seemed genuinely kind. She left a space heater in front of our door after I told her I was too cold the night before, and even gave us a banana and apple when we checked out because we never got to have breakfast at the hotel. She also printed out directions from the hotel to the waterfalls after I mentioned we were planning on visiting the waterfalls.

Cons:
- While the age and decor of the hotel is what makes it unique, it is a gift and a curse. More specifically:
- Since it is an old building, there is no elevator.
- Also perhaps because it is an old building, and it was not built to be a hotel, the walls are too thin. And because the walls and doors are so thin, even if people outside the door were not being outrageously, obnoxiously loud, our room was very noisy, interrupting our sleep regularly starting early in the morning.
- The towels are thin and hard/rough. Wiping my face with the face towel was painful, as the towel scratched my face.
- The bathroom is old, and there are accordion doors, instead of regular doors. They add a certain character to the place, and it did not bother us, but it may bother some.

- The bed is quite uncomfortable.
1) The bed is pretty flimsy. It shakes way too much if your partner/spouse makes the smallest move or tosses and turns in bed, thus preventing a good night's sleep.
2) The pillow and comforter are quite uncomfortable.
The weather was very cold when we were visiting (in fact, it snowed!), and the bedding was too light for such cold weather. I was shivering throughout the first night. The beds could definitely use a down comforter.
The radiator in the room/building did not seem to be working or make much of a difference...

The reason why I am giving this cute little charming place three stars is because we could not get any sleep the two nights we stayed there.
In fact, our original reservation was for four nights, but we cut our stay short and left after the second night.

With that being said, you get what you pay for, and if you are a budget traveler, this is a good, charming option.

Room Tip: - Pick a room on an upper floor to minimize the number of people walking by and talking in front of...

Loved staying at the Chateau De Pierre. Owners were very lovely and super nice. They helped us find good parking ($20 a day) at a garage nearby.

Our room was on the first floor so we did get some noise in the mornings of people passing by our door. Also our upstairs neighbours were loud, it's an old building so you expect the sound to carry!

The hotel doesn't seem to get a lot of street noise which is great. Our room has a door to their small private garden which opens up to the original stone walls surrounding the city! We had a double room which mean we had quite a bit of space. The only down side was our bathroom was really really small (had an accordion door close of the bathroom area)

The Chateau is located very close to EVERYTHING - the citadelle, boardwalk, upper and lower town are all only a few minutes walk from the hotel.

We never made it down to sit at breakfast. Mostly it was grab and go of coffee and yogurt or a banana for us. Their selection seemed pretty good though!

Over all a great stay. Would love to stay here next time we're in Quebec City!

Room Tip: A room on the first floor may mean some noise in the morning but at least you don't have to clim...

We stayed at the Le Chateau De Pierre in old Quebec and the stay was outstanding! This was an old English colonial mansion that has been converted to a Bed and Breakfast. Beautifully decorated and very clean. The location is within walking distance of everything in Old Quebec. Private parking is available thru the Chateau for $20. and within 1 block of Chateau. We parked our car and did not need it again until we left. The owners and innkeepers, Ron and Min Lian, were outstanding and very attentive to make our stay pleasant. We highly recommend.

We stayed 2 nights at le Château de Pierre. We had a room on the main floor which was big and clean. The antique look is quite charming. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom is older style, but clean and there were nice towels.
The flat screen TV is new, but there are only a handful of channels..
The owner said something about Wi-Fi, but we did not have any electronic gadget, so we did not listen. :-)
We parked our car nearby and did not need it during our stay. It is walking distance to all the great places in Vieux Québec.
There was a continental breakfast every morning included with our room. It had fresh fruits, yogourt, hard boil eggs, croissants, cheese, etc. It was fresh and the coffee was good.
The owners are fairly new and did their best to accommodate our needs.
I definitely recommend this place and will return when I go back to Québec City.

My friend and I stayed at the Pierre for two nights, and turns out we were the first official guests of the new owners, Min and Rong. The hotel was great, perfectly located, easy walking to everywhere, parking nearby, and the nicest hosts ever. They are addressing some of the comments regarding TVs and breakfast -- they've already put larger flat screens in the rooms and are renovating a breakfast room on their garden floor. They were attentive and friendly, the hotel was lovely and nicely priced -- you couldn't ask for more, really. I look forward to staying at the Pierre whenever I visit Quebec, it feels like home, and Min and Rong feel like family.

We stayed here overnight before boarding our cruise ship, and were very impressed with this lovely small boutique hotel in the heart of Old Quebec City. The location is outstanding, within an easy walk to everything of interest in the old city. There are several wonderful restaurants nearby, and you are just two blocks from the famous Hotel Frontenac. The hotel itself has great historical charm. It is on a quiet street, so even the rooms on the front of the hotel are peaceful. We had a large king sized bed which was very comfortable, a private bath, and chairs for sitting. Our room was on the first floor, which I would strongly recommend if you are carrying heavy luggage as there is no elevator. The only thing which could be improved is breakfast. It was set out in the lobby - a basket of muffins, some yogurt, and a bowl of fruit, along with coffee or tea, so pretty standard fare but nothing special. The night staff and morning staff were both very helpful and pleasant, so if you are looking for a quaint hotel in the heart of the old city with good beds and good rates, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Ground floor if you have heavy suitcases, as there is no elevator.
