B&B A La Decouverte
Ranked #32 of 120 Quebec City B&B and Inns
Reviewed 11 July 2013

This B&B was gay friendly and accommodated a gluten-free and lactose-free diet right away! The owners were sweet; suggesting activities while not being pushy, making english and french speakers feel welcome (at the same time) by translating for everyone eating breakfast, and discussing music and politics. The location was near many different types of parking (go to the lot by Esso for the cheapest long term parking), a farmers market, the train, a bike rental shop, food, and the wall. They mention having a cat, but I never saw it and didn't feel any allergies (my allergy is very slight).
I really can't express how lovely this B&B was. I wanted to hug the owners!

PS there is no pool or fitness center, but I accidentally selected it.

We have had two wonderful nights in that beautiful B&B. The room was cosy and quiet during day and night. The breakfast is superb with self baked bread, fresh fruit and a lot of things you would not normally have for a breakfast but you will be delighted and you will not miss anything.

Parking the car is not so easy, but there is a parking area where you have to pay in a short distance. Within the city you do not need in anyways.

Hello dear guests, S and J !

Thank you kindly for taking the time to write this review. It is appreciated as it will help our future guests in their choice.

We remenber your kindnest during your stay at our place, we really appreciated your presence in our house. Our conversations at breakfast were pleasant and punctuated with laughs and light-hearted subjects and some serious ones... I am afraid that we were not able to resolve all the problems of the world during that short stay ! Again, thank you. Good continuation.

This charming B&B is in a great location for visiting the lower town, old market (recommended), image mill and the old port. It's a level walk to restaurants and art galleries, the Musee du Civilisation, Place Royale and a bit further on, the pretty streets around Petit Champlain. It's a short (uphill) walk to Rue St Jean, the main street in old Quebec (tip: streets named Cote are on a hill). It's also a short stagger from the finish of the Quebec marathon which is why I chose it. Our ensuite room was spotless and beautifully decorated in keeping with the maritime theme of this lovely old house. The home-made goodies for breakfast were a welcome bonus and Nathalie was very helpful when we needed an early pre-marathon breakfast.

Room Tip: Caravelle faces the street so there was some traffic noise from nearby roads but the road directly u...

This was a lovely, friendly place right under the City walls and only a couple of minutes from the station. Nathalie and Paul used a lovely mixture of french and english so I was encouraged to keep trying my french knowing that there would always be a lifeline! The continental breakfast was stunning especially the home made breads. The location is really great to explore the old city and docks on foot.

Room Tip: The stairs are quite shallow so getting up to the attics wasn't a problem

My wife and I have stayed in dozens of B&B's in the U.S. and abroad over the past forty years, and we agreed this is one of the very best. The house is a charmer - tasteful decor, warm and welcoming. Wonderful sleeping. The breakfasts are a delight: fresh breads and fruit in an interesting variety of shapes and sizes, cereals and good coffee, accompanied by lively conversation.
As previous reviewers have raved, the hosts are thoughtful and veritable encyclopedias regarding Quebec City. As usual, we had done a fair amount of research, as we had never been to this part of Canada before, and Nathalie filled in all the blanks we had left, in addition to correcting (most gently) a few misconceptions. If the city itself was not so compelling to explore, we could have spent many more hours than we did speaking with her.
The location of the house was just right for us, Just outside the walls of the old town, we needed the uphill walks to justify the amount of wonderful food we found everywhere we dined.
It is also close to the fabulous market which goes beyond Central Market and Whole Foods.
We had to leave before we foundered!
If anyone can proclaim a more delightful B&B, please advise and we will fly there immediately.

From the wonderful welcome, to the delicious breakfasts, the quiet sleep, and our wonderful host - this was a perfect little B&B. It is close to the old town although for the elderly a little walk up a hill. The stairs to the top floor could also cause some older folks a problem. Our hostess was very helpful and her insights into Quebec City and the local area were valuable. I am glad we decided to skip the impersonal hotels and instead stayed here. You can't go wrong with this charmer. We parked down the street for $15 a day behind the Esso station and paid one time for the entire trip making it quite convenient.

We stayed with Nathalie and Paul in August 2012. The welcome and accommodation exceeded our expectations and our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. We would like to stay there next time we are in Canada. An excellent location, good breakfasts and charming hosts. Nathalie was particularly thoughtful in providing helpful local information which was much appreciated.

Room Tip: we did not look at any other rooms
