“best place to stay”
Reviewed 8 July 2010

just got back...after long search prior to the trip i can tell u this is the place to stay... all went well above and behond.. if u can try to get a room with a terrace facing the old city.. well worth it...
do not go to panache restaurant well over price food was not as expected and the service was far from good... there are many more places to dine for much less...
if u not sure where to stay lower town vs upper town... i will stay in the lower town much more charm.. dont forget to visit the food market and make sure u go there hungry lots of goodies...

Expensive and worth it. Spectacular service and rooms. Every possible detail covered. Includes a theatre, free movies but those are secondary to the decor. In excavating the ground all kinds of objects were found. These are displayed throughout the hotel with perfect lighting. In fact, who ever designed the lighting from the rooms to the public areas createed a work of art

We booked this Hotel based on Trip Advisor and Frommers Travel Guide recommendations. I booked late so the only room available was a Lux King. The valet parking and service to our room person said we had one of the top 5 rooms in the hotel. He was right-on.
Square footage 50 Feet by 15 Feet. The temperature you controlled was the same in every section of the room. No noise no blowing air. Let me describe the sections of the room. Section 1 King bed with very thick comforter, fireplace and mini desk. Section 2 Sitting room sofa and sofa chair with eight foot desk. Section 3 Bar with expresso machine which is fully ready to go with different types of expresso, open closet and a few draws under the bar, plus a safe. Section 4 Bath with double sinks. Section 5 Toilet plus Tub and Shower. Tub was 7 feet long and 3 feet wide, the shower was a ceiling rainforrest shower. Both tub and shower were tiled on all walls plus the ceiling and in a seperate room 7 feet by 7 feet enclosed by a large glass door. We also had a top of the roof deck with two chairs and a table which you entered through a arch designed double window. There were excavated lighted rose glass pieces in the night table and outside the door.

I think each room is different. Two blocks from Old Town center, peacefull and luxury all together. Go For It.

Being rated in the top 100 best hotels in the world, we arrived at the hotel with a lot of expectations, the hotel is really really nice, the rooms are great ( must book with a terrace), the restaurent is outstanding (Panache), but I wouldn't say it is in the top 100 hotels. Location is great but because it is in the low part of Old Quebec, you need to walk up or take the Funiculaire to go in most of the attractions so I would not recommend for long stay or for families or older people.
The shower in the suites are closed, but in the regular rooms they are not, so not my favorite....and the beds are ok, but not the best.
Overall I really enjoy the hotel, but I do think it is a little overated.

The expanded Saint-Antoine has been fixed with great sensitivity and style, complete with displays of all the artifacts salvaged from the warehouse which preceded the new part of the hotel.

Went to Quebec city for a business trip and ended up in a bedroom with a tiny bathroom. No help offered to carry my luggages to my room. Ok, it can happen but there was nothing to put my belongings on. The toothbrush was the only item I could put in the bathroom. Toothpaste stains were covering the curtains, long hair were found in the showerroom and on the towels... The turndown service was done by a lady not too friendly who handed me a bottle without a word or a smile. Having a 5 minute shower was enough to create such steam everywhere that the walls were all damps and the floor slippery. Most of the team at the restaurant was nice and the food was just as good as something you could cook at home. Not worth the price we paid. I will find another place to stay the next time I've got business to do in Quebec.

Auberge St-Antoine (a Relais & Chateau) is an outstanding destination in the Québec City region. The rooms are very comfortable with excellent fittings, comfortable beds and high end bathrooms - heated floors, jacussi etc. The restuarant (Panache) is generally considered one of the top 2-3 in the city. Room prices include a generous breakfast in this attractive room.

Parts of the building are very old and are part of some of the earliest buildings in North America. At every turn there are small wall cabinets displaying ancient artifacts found by archaeologists during the digging of foundations - and this history of the building is showcased wonderfully. Staff is very friendly, and they are evidently proud of their hotel and its place in their wonderful city. We were given a complimentary tour of some historic aspects of the building by a knowledgeable manager who was genuinely happy to show off his establishment.

The hotel is owned by a well-to-do family that has been prominent in Québec for many generations, and their loving touch and continued involvement is evident in the service, the quality of the rooms and the engaging staff.

While not an economy option, the price was worth it, and we will go back and recommend Auberge St-Antoine to everyone we know.
