“Two star hotel pretending be be a boutique hotel”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Hotel Acadia is a two star hotel pretending to be a boutique hotel. They have tarted up a few rooms with a pleasant renovation, but our room was small and the walls were paper thin. We heard the staff talking in a work room next to ours and people pounding on the stairs next to the room. The room was so small that it did not have room for either a chest of drawers or an end table by the bed. In fact there was not a single drawer in the place.

Forget about any nice amenities or boutique shampoos or soaps, at the Acadia you get a dispenser bolted to the shower wall which offers a combination shampoo and shower gel for your bathing pleasure. Although the TV, with its 12 stations was recent, the clock radio was ancient and cheap and there was nothing like an ipod dock or even the promised cd player (although a CD of relaxing music graced the mantlepiece). While the room was renovated, hallways and common areas were tawdry and worn.

All in all, despite the excellent location, this hotel does not deliver on its promises. For the price one can do much better in Quebec.

Room Tip: Avoid "Prestige room" near the stairs (221)

This hotel was well positioned right in the heart of Vieux Quebec, so we could, and did, walk everywhere. The room was exactly as advertised, which I very much appreciated. I felt there was great value for the money because the location is so superb. The room had charm, but was also very modern. Everything had been upgraded and was fresh and cozy. Staff friendly, and the hotel was very clean. There is a hot tub on the top floor which we didn't know about, but would have definitely used had we had our suits as the view was cool. Really lovely place, and we would definitely stay here again.

This is the 2nd time we stayed at this hotel; I took my wife here for her 50th birthday, and we came back. We took a bigger room, since we had our great friend from Belgium visiting us and travelling with us. We stayed 2 nights in a fantastic room, had a wonderful buffet breakfast, and enjoyed a couple of nights relaxation in their hot tub. This place is perfect, great accomodations, but also very central if you are looking at exploring the Old Quebec city historical sights. We will be back for sure. Keep up the great work

This boutique hotel is in the old city and so convenient to walking everywhere. The rooms are small but have been nicely renovated for a building that is very very old. Although not very wide, we were told the street is the widest in the old city -- where the rich people used to live. The rates were reasonable. Be sure to book the special packages online, as I failed to do so, and the special rate for a carriage ride was no longer in effect when we arrived.

Room Tip: We stayed in 303 facing the street but quiet. No noise from room to room either. Two beds but woul...

If you live here no need for a car to visit the old city of Quebec - they actually have a service/garage to park cars, and luckily - on the street there are not many spaces free. My Canadian friend had booked one room for the 5 of us, and another room for the 2 of them for one night the Easter w-e. Unfortunately the checking-in resulted in a bit of a confusion. Our friends were 'upgraded' to a suite, and the 5 of us given the room just side by side with them on the first floor... only the room we got had 2 queen beds, and absolutely no space for an extra bed??!!?? After a while the reception asked us to change rooms with our friends. In the suite there was a first room with a double bed in a cupboard and personel brought an extra bed that we had to make up ourself. They didn't even give all the drapes/covers for the extra bed but we started to be fed up to call the front desk asking for things. Then there was a main bedroom with a double bed, a desk, furniture, and a huge bathroom (see pics). Our friends - quite disappointed - took the other room. As usual when we are 5, you also have to ask for enough towels (never understood why hotels, when they have a booking for 5 are unable to prepare the room before we come with 5 beds/sleeping spaces and have enough towels....). This was a one-night booking, so if we didn't show up the credit card would be charged - so why not have it ready? Anyway - to excuse themselves of the change of rooms and other, they finally offered the parking and the breakfast for free. The receptionist on our arrival did not seem updated/didn't find the file on the booking etc. A bit strange since this was Easter w-e, a fully booked w-e. They were fluent in English and French (and other languages) and tried their best to be helpful.
Breakfast is by the way not taken at the hotel, but around the corner at a place called Feu Sacré (also a pic of the name).

The hotel seems like several houses put together. Looked like corridors are small, and lot of stairs, half levels etc. Not easy if you have a problem getting up/down stairs.

The suite rooms were superb (see pics), all looked newly renovated, with a large modern bathroom. The other room was much more tiny, with a tiny bathroom, and no bathtub. So quite a difference between the two rooms I saw.
Location very good. Very clean. Comfortable beds. The road outside has not much traffic and is quiet.
Remember this is based on one experience, one night, an Easter w-e (hotel completely booked up).
I would still recommend the hotel, but maybe try to find out what rooms are nicest.

Room Tip: Probably best to phone the hotel directly and get as much info as possible on the rooms availble to...

My friend I stayed at this hotel last month for three nights. We each had our own room. We were in " superior rooms", each paying the same rate, but there was a world of difference between our rooms. Mine was HUGE, with two very large deep set windows with a great view, and had a lovely big bathroom. Her room was much smaller, had the tiniest bathroom ever, and one small window that looked out at a fire escape, brick wall and dirty little ally way. My room was bright and airy and her room was rather dark.
However, the front staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The entire place is like a rabbit warren, with little hallways taking off in every direction and lots of stairs. It made me want to explore and check out every room, as I suspect no two rooms are alike, and are all quaint and interesting. If stairs are an issue for you be sure to ask for a room on one of the lower floors.
The location is fabulous!! We did not bother renting a car, as the most interesting shops, restaurants, bars and historic buildings are all within walking distance. I should add that we were out very late each night and I felt very safe at all times.
So yes, stay here....but make sure you get the type of room that will make you happy.

Room Tip: Be very specific about what you want. Every room is different!! Ask about the size, the view and loc...
