This is a quaint hotel in the old part of Quebec, 2 blocks from the Chateau Frontenac and a few blocks from the main road, the Grand Allee. The owner is so helpful and personable and her two resident cats love to greet the guests and be petted. We parked the car for 3 days in a secure garage nearby at the rate of $22/day.

Each morning after sleeping on a very comfortable bed, Ms. Roy puts out a beautiful arrangment of coffee, teas, orange juice and fresh baked goods that we took up to our room while getting ready to head out for the day. The rooms have air conditioning (which most hotels do not have) and it was very much appreciated as it was 85 and above each day. Our room #6, 2nd floor (stairs and no elevators in any of these hotels) was lovely with a modern bathroom and beautiful crown moldings, chandeliers and furniture. There is also a flat screen t.v. and hardwood floors.

We had breakfast at L'Omelette daily and that was a delicious omelette (of course) or eggs benedict, but basically American breakfasts. Dinner is delicious, ask for recommendations and Marielle will help you find what you wish to eat. Wear your sneakers though, it is all up hill I swear!

This hotel was clean and in a great location. Pricing is competitive and worth every penny and again, your host will help you enjoy Quebec to the fullest.

I stayed here with my husband, 2 young children and my mum during a 6 wk overseas holiday. The room itself was nice and comfortable, poor lighting throughout though, the morning starter food was not what I expected, from reading other reviews I expected higher quality so we were all disappointed. My main complaint was that during the booking process ( yes I explained we were a family of 5 and travelling for 6 wks) at no point was it pointed out to me that the room we were recommended to book was up 5 flights of stairs. We had 5 heavy suitcases amongst other carry on luggage, plus a mother who can't walk up lots of stairs due to a health and lung problems. I also felt that we were treated as though we should feel privilidged to stay here, I paid good money like anyone else. Overall it was comfortable but I would probably suggest it is suited more to couples, not families.

From the moment we talked with Maria, the owner, over the phone, we were sold on this place to stay in Quebec City - and we were not disappointed! The location was perfect, right in the heart of the city, yet on a quiet street that was removed from the noise and crowds. The hotel was in upper Quebec, but very close to lower Quebec and a couple of blocks from the Hotel Frontenac and magnificent views over the St. Lawrence River. We even watched the sunrise over the St. Lawrence from our hotel room window. The hotel was very close to many excellent restaurants and shops, making it quite easy for us to stop by the hotel throughout the day, to drop off purchases or change clothing to adjust to the weather. Although not technically a B & B, we began each morning with a spread of wonderful bakery items, along with juice, coffee, and tea - it was the perfect way start our day. Maria was friendly and helpful, offering good sight-seeing suggestions and travel tips when asked. We had a lovely time in Quebec City and would definitely stay here again if we return.

My daughter & I shared a wonderful trip to Quebec City to celebrate her May,11 college graduation. We reserved room #6 with 2 dbl beds and could not have had a more delightful experience. Marielle welcomed us like family even when we arrived 2 hours later than originally anticipated because of repeated flight delays. Hot coffee, fruit, a selection of muffins and breakfast breads every morning got us off to a good start each day. Inside the walls of Vieux Quebec, Maison du Fort is a block or so off the main street so at the end of the day, one has a sense of leaving the hustle & bustle behind. (We were surprised to discover that some of the "higher rated" venues were actually on the main street overlooking pedestrian & vehicular traffic as well as over noisy restaurants!) Room #6 was immaculately maintained. It has a bank of windows offering an abundance of light, cross-ventilation and a picturesque view of horse-drawn carriages & quaint neighborhood B&B's with cascading flower boxes. You can also see the river below! Marielle offers her guests discount tickets for river cruises as well as making sure they know about the outstanding exhibits available at local museums. She is happy to recommend not-to-be-missed sights and restaurants and gives excellent directions to popular places. Maison du Fort offers complimentary internet access; a/c is also provided but during June, we were comfortable without it. Maison du Fort may not offer valet parking or an on-site restaurant, but for a 2-star rating you will have a 4-star experience!!

Room Tip: Reserve early; also, not all rooms have tv.

We are young newlyweds who stayed here on our honeymoon for five nights. Marielle (the owner) is extremely welcoming and provided us with lots of information about the city. We stayed in room #1 that is located on the first floor at the front of the hotel. It is a spacious room and sparkling clean.

The complimentary tea, coffee and baked goods in the mornings were an added bonus. We are generally light eaters so this kept us going until lunchtime. We appreciated the free wi-fi access as well.

The hotel is located in an ideal spot, right around the corner from the Chateau Frontenac and in walking distance of many shops, restaurants and historic attractions. The Maison sits right at the foot of The Citadelle.

We found the hotel to be a very reasonable price considering the location and service. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who likes a smaller hotel with excellent service and a charming, traditional decor. Thanks Marielle for a wonderful stay! We will be back.

Room Tip: Room 1 was less private than rooms on floor 2 or 3

We were four friends travelling to Quebec City to experience the "Vieux Quebec" atmosphere and we got it! It was a great experience we will never forget. We stayed at Maison du Fort, Room 11 on the top floor of this historical building. Our hostess, Marielle made the stay feel like one of the best I have ever experience. The hotel was immaculate. It was centrally located. Marielle made us feel like we were part of the family. We loved every aspect of our stay here, from the beautiful decor to the great coffee and pastries served every morning. The hotel is rated 2 star but I would give it a 5! It obviously does not have the amenities of a large scale hotel, but if you are travelling to Vieux Quebec, I believe that Marielle, and her place, Maison du fort completes the "historical" feel of this type of vacation. The suite had two rooms, a kitchenette and a bathroom with a stand up shower. The suite also had internet and air conditioning. The views included the Chateau Frontenac, the river and the Citadel.

My son always wanted to go to Quebec, and so we decided to make the trip before he moved away for his first job. We loved it here! The proprietor is a joy and makes it feel like you are coming home in the evening rather than to a hotel. The cats added a special friendly touch. There were homemade booties at the door so you could remove your shoes and not track in the dirt and salt from outside. The room was beautiful, and the wi-fi was a nice touch so we could keep in touch with friends back home. I have knee problems, and although there is no elevator, she gave me a room in the lowest possible floor which worked out well. Parking was at an access-controlled secured garage a couple of blocks away and was not free but was reasonable and appeared to be safe. We dropped our bags at the door before moving the car. Would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Quebec City!
