“Great place close to the sights”
Reviewed 22 August 2009

We stayed at Maison du Fort for several nights in early August and enjoyed our stay there. We found the owner Marielle very friendly and helpful, particularily in that we arrived late due to some travel difficulties. She helped us get our car parked for the first night since a nearby main straight was about to close down for a city parade which would have made it nearly impossible to get to the parking garage, and after a long day of travel we were thankful for that.

We stayed in room #10 on the third floor, and the room was nicely kept and decorated. Each day the room was cleaned VERY well and overall there was plenty of space in the room. As noted on the hotels website, there is no air conditioning, but the temperatures were such that leaving the windows open and the fan on made the room comfortable. The only downside was, contrary to what many of the reviews mention, there was fair amount of street noise through the night and the early morning, not form people per se, but from vehicles going much faster then one would think down the street seemingly at all hours of the night.

As mentioned there are a couple of cats wondering around downstairs, but we like to see the cats.

The hotel is close to the Chateau Frontenac and close to just about everything else, I don't believe you will be disappointed staying at Maison du Fort and I would recommend it.

I have been to Quebec many times (even lived there for a while) and wish I had found this hotel earlier.

First of all, the location is excellent -- in the middle of Vieux (Old) Quebec, yet away from all the crowds. The rooms aren't the biggest (rooms in older buildings never are), but extremely clean and comfortable. The bathroom in our room looked as if it had just been remodeled. There is a nice breakfast nook where the owner (Marielle) leaves coffee, juice & pastries for guests to bring back to their rooms -- a wise idea, as I didn't have to worry about looking my best first thing in the morning. Finally, there is Marielle herself, who is very cheerful and full of information about what to do in Quebec City.

The next time I go to Quebec, I will definitely stay at Hotel Maison du Fort.

Room 11 (top floor apartment) offered great value for our family of 5. Three young children shared bedroom (double + cot). Queen bed with TV in living room. Separate kitchen and bathroom. Excellent location, walk everywhere; easy to return for a mid-day break. Greatly added to the cultural experience of the city. Kids loved sitting in the dormer windows -- good view of QC rooftops, Chateau Frontenac and walls/Citadel. Marielle was cheerful, helpful and wonderful with the children. Delicious baking each morning and lots of coffee. We would definitely go back and have already recommended to friends and family. No air conditioning although fans and cross-draft worked very well. Lots of stairs.

We stayed in the top room, which was a long way with heavy luggage.

It was a beautiful hotel, and Marielle was helpful and friendly.

The cake and tea in the morning was lovely, and the cats gorgeous.

Would definitely recommend it.
Only drawbacks were the room at the top is a long trek, and also warm - would have been good to have air con option.

We stayed in room 9 for one night last month and had a very comfortable stay. The decor of our room was lovely with a huge bed and crisp white sheets. The location was fantastic, very central and Marielle was a wonderful host, giving us maps for the area and advice on sight seeing.

During our stay in Quebec, we took a tour of the Chateau Frontenac (we'd definitely recommend!) and got to see one of the rooms there as part of the tour. Our room in Maison du Fort was far nicer, larger and more personal so we are so glad that we stayed.

We stayed at Maison du Fort from Sunday, August 9 until Thursday, August 13. The innkeeper, Marielle Roy was friendly and helpful. The room was immaculate. Each morning, there was an assortment of delicious breads, muffins, coffee, and juice set out for the guests. It was close to the Chateau Frontenac yet on a quiet side street. We will definitely return there should we travel to Quebec City in the future.

Disclaimer: Those with medium to severe Cat allergies should not stay here! One or more cats are allowed to roam the premises and possibly enter the rooms as the proprietor cleans them.

That said, this is the perfect place to stay if you do not have allergies. The location could not be better, one of few quiet side streets in Old Town and very accessible (walking distance) to many of the cities attractions. The rooms are perfect, not luscious in size but ample for a couple that gets along well with each other. Free wi-fi, small breakfast in the morning (coffee, tea, orange juice, muffin and sweet breads. Price is very reasonable considering the location and what it costs to do anything else in this town.

I feel bad not giving Maison du Fort an excellent, but my mild cat allergies made for a slightly miserable experience. I should have taken the hint from the logo on the website, and I will take this as a learning experience to ask before I book at B&Bs. Otherwise Perfect!
